ARCHIVED Diagnosis- Colonoscopy Vs. Endoscopy
Fenrir replied to Kelsie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hopefully the GI Dr. did the right celiac tests. I'm sort of curious why they didn't wait to see how the celiac labs came back before they did the colonoscopy. If was positive they could have just done the colonoscopy and EGD at the same time. -

Fenrir replied to Wi11ow's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah, my GI said that rarely they can see these little bumpy looking nodules (pretty small) but that alone isn't enough to DX celiac, the biopsy has to show it for that. -

Fenrir replied to Wi11ow's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
According to my GI, sometimes people with Celiac will have nodules. These are not the big nobs that the word brings to mind but more like a bumpy surface on the intestine. They are just big enough that they can sometimes be seen, but not often. He said most people who have celiac disease will have nothing unusual looking when they take the biopsies. -
ARCHIVED Deciding On Biopsy
Fenrir replied to Christina.V's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Chances are if she has a positive tTG she has Celiac. Yeah, it took me a month to get in for my biopsy and there are liteally well over 100 GI docs around here. -

Even if he saw something, he should have done more than 1 biopsy. Not sure meltdowns are a symptoms but a lot of celiacs have anxiety issues. -

Yeah, that's the kind I eat as well. Just had some pasta and red sauce on saturday, it was quite good with the brown rice noodles. -

Fenrir replied to Wi11ow's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It is possible that the 1 biopsy could be accurate but it's generally not the best procedure to DX celiac. The problem is that celiac damage can be patchy and be in one place and not the next so they should do at least 6 biopsies. In some cases they can see some damage from celiac but most only show villous damage on microscopic exam. This is why several... -
ARCHIVED Weight Loss Seems Impossible
Fenrir replied to moosemalibu's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I understand the bodybuilding thing. I was just starting to cut after bulk in these pictures and then I started getting hit with the Celiac symptoms. Funny enough, celiac made me want to eat all the time so I GAINED weight. Inactivity factored in as well, because I didn't feel like hitting the gym and I feel like I lost some muscle mass with... -
ARCHIVED Don't Know Where To Start Or What's Going On!
Fenrir replied to Onlyjamielynn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, then I would think it is probably some sort of autoimmune disease or anxiety. Anxiety can cause these sorts of unexplained skin conditions as well. If it is an autoimmune issue it can be very difficult to figure out which one. -

Seems to me like what you are experience is more of an allergy situation, or another possible autoimmune disease. It sounds like your rash isn't always in the same spot and you can figure out what is causing it. This may sound stupid but have you tried changing soaps, laundry detergents...ect? It might be you are allergic to dyes....ect. I would probably... -
ARCHIVED Certified Gluten Free Consultant For Restaurants And Manufacturers
Fenrir replied to AndyKun's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I am looking into doing this myself. I have a background in the food business having grown up in a family that owned a business and having worked at several. I also am a Medical Lab Tech and Coder/Biller. Sounds like it could be an interesting field.- 4 replies

ARCHIVED Testing - Urgent Care
Fenrir replied to Zaleigha's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The best thing would be to find a good family dr. to start with. An urgent care Dr. is probably less likely to dig into your situation, though you might be able to convince them to order the tests. However, a family Dr. (or internist/GP) will likely be more likely to chase down the problem through a good history, physical, and appropriate testing based on... -
ARCHIVED Trivial Blood Test?
Fenrir replied to sidelined's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think when you start talking breathing issues and fatigue you have also rule out sarcoidosis. I come from a family with a lot of autoimmune diseases. My youngest brother has sarcoidosis and his first symptoms were fatigue and decreased lung function. Not to say it can't be celiac but just have to keep all posibilties in mind. The problem with Celiac... -
ARCHIVED Deciding On Biopsy
Fenrir replied to Christina.V's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You definitely want the biopsy for two reasons: #1- To confirm Celiac. #2- Rule out autoimmine hepatitis. The problem with the tTG testing is the only thing that really throws a monkey wrench in it is that if you have another auotimmune caused hepatitis it can be positive. Not to worry you but it is something you have to rule out and finding damage... -

Fenrir replied to Onlyjamielynn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, you seemed pretty set on the fact that it could be celiac disease. Not many of your symptoms fit Celiac disease but celiac disease is strange and sometimes presents differently. If you truly feel this is a possibilty, go see your Dr. and have a good celiac panel ordered. Based on what you describe I think it is unlikely you have celiac disease but... -
ARCHIVED Possible Celiac?
Fenrir replied to Fenrir's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Just continuing to post here just in case someone looking for answers finds this thread, maybe my experience will help them out: Got my Pathology Report and it was graded Marsh Grade 3b, so there is quite a lot of villous damage going on apparently. -
I like to mix it with brown rice, add some peas and carrots and sprinkle some Mrs. Dash Chipotle Southwest seasoning on it. Sometimes I will add in some be beans, chicken and salsa to make it a meal.

ARCHIVED How Long Until You Declared Yourself 100%
Fenrir replied to sweetsailing's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yeah, I'm hoping mine improve as well. I may have had this since I was a kid as I remember going to the ER multiple times as a kid with stomach pain that they never figured out. My joints feel shot, abdominal pain, headaches, plumbing issues..ect. About 10 days gluten free and I feel some improvement already. Knees are not near as bad but still not... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free At Fast Food Place?
Fenrir replied to Fenrir's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Right, I wouldn't ask them to put it on the bun. From the restuarant's point of view they can't assume the risk of preparing foods with outside ingredients but you putting the burger on your own bun shouldn't be a problem. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free At Fast Food Place?
Fenrir replied to Fenrir's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
That's what I've been doing. It seems like when people hear the word "allergy" their ears perk up. I think that eating gluten-free is becoming such a fad (in that a lot of people not sensative or celiac are doing it) that I think a lot of people give it the same level of consideration as the Atkin's Diet or something if all you say is you can't have gluten... -
ARCHIVED Is Diagnosis Necessary?
Fenrir replied to justlovlie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The advantages are that if you want to be treated for celiac and have a better chances of getting your claims paid by insurance you should have the official DX. If you are not DX'd as a celiac your insurance may not pay for some things or at the same rate. Celiacs need to be monitored for nutritional deficiecies and antibodies to insure diet is correct and... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free At Fast Food Place?
Fenrir replied to Fenrir's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I would probably call and talk to the manager. I would explain the health problems involved and that if accomidations can't be made then you won't do business with them anymore. If someone has a health issue they should be able to bring food in, so long as they make a purchase. I would just say that if they don't offer gluten-free buns then they shoud... -
ARCHIVED A Little Input Please
Fenrir replied to beth01's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm about 10 days in of being gluten-free. I don't think I've been glitened yet but I have seen some marginal improvements. My bloating, gas, joint pain and headaches are improved. Overall GI function is better. However, no improvement yet in the upper right quadrant pain. I'm guessing it could take a while for everyting to fix itself. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free At Fast Food Place?

The one I went to didn't do that for the few people in front of me. Of course, the one I went to might be exceptionally aware of CC being that it is in the middle of the Uptwon area in Minneapolis which is a pretty health concious area. It seemed to me like the employees at this location have been trained properly to handle customers with allergies/intolerances... -
