  2. Guess it's a good thing I bought a fancy new pan with a strainer lid the other day. :-) And looks like the only thing I need to throw away is going to be my cooking spoons and spatula (no big deal, they are old anywho), and my real strainer. My insurance won't be going up, cuz I don't pay it! (Still on my parents til my next birthday) As for the cos for...
  3. To those that were involved in this post, I got the testing done out of pocket. Results came in today...I have yet to see the actual report, and couldn't discuss details over the phone, I will have to drive back to the private lab to get the report (don't mind cuz it protects my privacy). But...all 4 tests showed positive! I finally have an answer after tons...
  4. Another question, is there anything that will help with getting my house gluten free? A how to guide type thing? Like what all do I need to get rid of, what to clean and how, etc?
  5. If they can get me set for a biopsy soon, I will do it. But if it's gonna be more than a couple weeks, I'm not waiting. I'm sure either way there will still be damage present though because from my understanding the villi damage takes a while to heal, unlike the antibodies which can vanish quickly. (Is that correct?) I myself love Sam Adams, and Blue Moon...
  6. I can't give much advice about the remarks, weird looks, etc because I just got a positive diagnosis today. But I will say that I have been slowly removing gluten from my diet (more so over the last few days after getting the blood work done), and it is hard. I spent 45 minutes at the grocery store getting 3 days worth of groceries cuz I had to check every...
  7. (It's a long one, sorry
  8. Found the test online. Price is currently $55 CANADIAN (About $50 US) Open Original Shared Link
  9. Side question, is it safe to assume that your sugar intake has not been lowered and there are no other obvious contributing factors over the last 5-7 days?
  10. Type II is insulin dependent, right? I have not seen anything showing that happening or any studies on the matter. To be honest, it doesn't make much sense thinking about the fact celiac tends to lower your body's ability to absorb nutrients. However, I do think I have read about celiac also affecting the functioning of other organs (don't quote that, I'm...
  11. What is "oil pulling"?
  12. What was the "negative" range for your IgA ttg test? (Should be "<#") Does your lab work show a "total IgA" on it? I've seen some people say it says "count" and some have it say "syrum".
  13. If the range for that lab has negative at under 6, I think it's safe today that it's celiac. The specialist will likely decide to order a full celiac panel, and possibly an endoscopic biopsy (not sure about the 18 months old and a scope though). If the doctor doesn't know much about celiac, that test may be the only one he knows to run, and he did the right...
  14. Steph, I have several friends who are single moms, and I watch them struggle making ends meet. So I can understand your being hesitant to do a gluten challenge and be sick for 6 weeks. I'm also going to assume based on your statement that your symptoms get better when you are off gluten. (Can't remember the rest of this thread, and I'm in too much of a brain...
  15. Monkeygirl, I agree with everyone saying you need to be tested. As a minor, if you can't get your parents to say yes now (assuming you are dependent on them to the extent of insurance and a ride to and from getting an endoscopy), then as soon as you can talk with your doctor, do a gluten challenge (8-12 weeks eating the equivalent of 2 slices of bread a day...
  16. I've been trying to cope with the fact that it appears there aren't many celiacs around where I live. We have no health food stores, very very limited selection of gluten-free products in the chain stores, no support groups, and medical professionals who seem clueless about celiac (trying to say it's an allergy and I don't need to eat gluten to be tested...
  17. Dee, I'm not sure if I'm misreading something in my current brain dog and extreme fatigue (I had a bit more gluten this evening than I intended), but this part doesn't make sense.
  18. A result of 0 would definitely point to being IgA deficient. Remember, this does NOT mean you are NOT celiac. As others have said, a result of 0 is unheard of by them. It would be recommended to request your doctor run a different type of test (either IgG blood or an endoscopic biopsy). Please do not rule out celiac until further testing is done, as a "false...
  19. This one wasn't mixed, it was straight acetaminophen. I'm not thinking it was gluten though because my reaction was nothing like when I eat gluten.
  20. Enjoy it for me. :-) I've been craving a steak, but I'm saving it for my last gluten meal (love me some Outback Steakhouse).
  21. Monekygirl, welcome! I'm not sure about good low glycemic gluten free foods, but I do want to give a bit of feedback... I am severely hypoglycemic. I have WALKED into the ER with my blood glucose at 40-45 (by all rights one should be unconscious at that point). However, I keep getting "normal" hemoglobin A1C tests (meaning that my glucose balances out overall...
  22. 30 min is about how long it takes for gluten to start showing itself in me. That's why the gluten I eat while waiting for the tests is at night close to bed time. I drive all day long for work, and when I stop at the gas station to get some munchie food, they tend to look at me weird and ask why I'm staring at the labels for so long. (Normally it's the women...
  23. I don't have cable yet (it's not a priority in the place I just got, need to get the rest of the essentials first). And Benadryl does nothing for me, as a matter of fact, every med I have ever taken that was either designed to or that had a known side effect of making you fall asleep doesn't even make me yawn. I will go to the ER and be given a narcotic,...
  24. I have checked, but it's been a few years and I can remember the exact pill info it was. I know that it was a straight acetaminophen pill (as in not mixed with Codeine etc) which is why the doc said it was the acetaminophen I was reacting to. The reaction to that has had me scared to take any painkillers. The funny thing is, I was given the Rx for pain I...
