  1. Ever have one of those days where you are sick of everything, sick of it all and just want to go on a hunger strike? I have had a stomach ulcer for over a month from using NSAID drugs like Advil and sleeve for the terrible arthritis I have developed in my back at the tender age of 29. So I have been taking prilosec otc for it. I went to the doc 3 weeks...
  2. We are members and we are supposed to be getting a magazine every month.. but we dont get it in the mail or anything. They are AMAZING with things like this though. I called them just the other day because last week we wanted to get their turkey with sage breakfast sausage. It was labeled with a G but the last ingredient was maltodextrin from an unspecified...
  3. It's alot lower in fat and calories than regular, but the sodium is a bit much. I really liked it mixed with the balsamic dressing actually. I had it on a field greens salad with a half a red bell pepper, half a cucumber, and a whole carrot! All organic because I was visiting my brother and his family for the day. I was visualizing healing my intestines while...
  4. For all those in the NY, NJ, and PA areas, you know about wegmans. Everyone else, wegmans is a great food store! They have regular brand foods, a great selection of organic stuff and natural products and their own wegmans brand. The wegmans brand is labled with allergy information, this link should work http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eZvaG9ifFvo/Toh98Jc9SdI/AAAAAAAABHo...
  5. I have been gluten-free for about 4 months, I cut out dairy totally for a few weeks and then slowly added it back in. I have been ok mostly but I have been having some stomach gurgles the past few days and a little discomfort but no D. A little headache today, nothing crazy. Are these withdrawl symptoms from detoxing from gluten or likely a response to eating...
  6. Im sorry, I meant he has NO doubts about the celiac. My symptoms are getting lesser as time goes on, i think i had a huge boost of healing at around 2 weeks gluten-free but its been slow going ever since because i have been eating gluten-free junk! I think i need to be really strict and just eat whole foods for now.
  7. Thanks Irish, it was s nurse practitioner, she's only there twice a week I found out, so it took me over a week to get results with the holiday. I saw a gastro yesterday, he has doubts about celiac, but claims I need an endo, which happens to be at a surgical center that he owns. :/ and said I don't need to do a gluten challenge. I'm eye rolling so hard right...
  8. I know the story is all too familiar for all of you, but I have to tell a little bit of my story here. I am turning 30 in about a month, and i honestly feel like i have never lived. I have been told Im crazy more times than I care to remember. I have come to terms with my upbringing, but still have gone to therapy, in an attempt to be less crazy. I...
  9. As in, i have heard alot of stories of people who work i nursing homes being careless and horrible people who can barely pass a drug or background test.
  10. @across- im sure there are some really dedicated, kind people that work in nursing homes but from the stories that i have heard from several people, now including yourself, i am not surprised!
  11. It is really such a silent disease, that is likely why. We don't swell up in the face and die in front of you if you give us gluten. We get sick a few hours later, or the next day. Then we get tired, achy and depressed. That's all bullsh*t and no one really cares I suppose. Im coming up on my 30th birthday and I have to say I haven't thought much about my...
  12. Gemini, this is after 4 months gluten-free! I had no idea about cross contamination at all, i need to be much more careful! Lately, I have been down in the dumps and I have been eating junk, but overall little cuts and scrapes have been healing so much quicker. I eat fresh meats, veggies and fruits but I should be eating more. I need to nourish my body...
  13. Yes, very interesting. For people like us, sometimes being able to EAT AN F-ing COOKIE once in awhile is nice! Not trendy, just nice!
  14. @Gemini, not sure how weak my results were. I posted another thread here, if you want to see. https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/107942-help-me-de-code-these-results/ He really did seem to be pushing the endo, and then i found out that himself and a few other doctors are owners themselves of the surgical center where the procedure is performed. Interesting...
  15. I saw a gastro today for the first time since my positive blood results and at 4 months gluten free, He says my levels were pretty high and i most definately have celiac disease, but he was pushing for the endoscopy. He made it seem like its really important to have a diagnosis on file and the endoscopy is the only way to actually, officially diagnose...
  16. LOL I feel your pain. I have been sick for so many years. Right now I am an almost 30 year old college student and looking for summer work. I have pretty much ruled out anything in food service. My boyfriend told me the gluten free bakery was hiring, but come to find out, they also bake regular treats in the same building.. noppeeee
  17. also scalloped potatoes do NOT need to be made with flour... no reason for it at all. I have made them plenty of times but just using heavy cream and cheese.
  18. Ohhh Beth, me too. I chose to stop eating beef and pork nearly 10 years ago, after living with my grandmother for 3 years previously, she still offers me things like hot dogs everytime i go to her house, and it sure as sh*t isn't turkey! They barely follow sanitary rules of food preparation, that's why I have cooked dinners for the whole family so many times...
  19. beth- I was assumming there was alot of cross contamination as you talked about. I helped prepare a few dishes and i am familiar with the way my family prepares certain dishes. They make the same things for easter, every easter and I have been the one on deck to make the entire meal for several years. Im pretty sure someone used the same spoon for scalloped...
  20. I see the gastro tomorrow! I would encourage you to go to doctor Kay, but as long as you understand gluten free till death, maybe you can heal and be fine. I will never forget the monday after easter. I was very careful all weekend to not eat anything with gluten, and I am an avid cook so I know how things are cooked just by smell and appearance. I ate...
  21. That's all? And i shouldnt be using the wooden spoons i used for pasta? and the non stick i used to use for pancakes? trash them?
  22. Most of my cookware is expensive calphalon cookware, fairly new! Is there anyway to clean it so that I can rid it on these freaking gluten particles I cannot even see?! So nerve wracking!
  23. After being misdiagnosed since I was a teen and being told that being tired, headachy and having some stomach issues was 'normal' , I am just coming up on my 30th birthday and started to suffer the effects of this illness the past few years. I have chronic arthritis in my back, which is permanent. If you have been diagnosed celiac, silent or not, I would...
  24. Despite going gluten free 4 months ago, my tests results were still positive, and OFF THE CHARTS. My boyfriend has a gluten intolerance (doesn't have the gene for celiac), so he went off gluten as well and had a terrible time, headache, mood swings and tired all the time. Which was funny because I had all those symptoms, PLUS MORE my whole like when i was...
  25. I am really just glad that im feeling better, for the most part. I see the gastro doc next week and he was listed on the physicians on this website, and i read a few people saying he is a great doc for celiac patients. Luckily he was in network and really close by! i really hope it isn't crohns, that is another that i am at risk for. i didnt think it was...
