  1. The cherry pastry sounds good. I am trying to find a way to make a substitute for puff pastry. It would be nice to find a gluten-free puff pastry mix even.
  2. Rice pasta usually requires a bit more cooking than regular pasta but I have found other rice pastas are more touchier on cooking than the Tinkyada.
  3. With medications I would consult either the company that makes them or a pharmacist. I would go with the company because they add fillers and some can be glutenesque. I have many recipes I change the flour and do bean flour, soya flour, rice flour combinations. There are some not bad gluten-free cook books too. You can also do gravy and sauces with tapioca...
  4. Whoops, Shirley, Let me know how it goes with those oats. My favorite cereal was always rolled oats and there are killer cookies I make with them. So, I will be really interested in them and where they can be bought.
  5. It really isn't that difficult. I have no problem sticking to the the diet. My added bonus is I have lost my insane attraction to sweet things. Remember stir frys are your friend. Gravy's made with cornstarch are just as good and gluten free pizza's and pies are good too. There are tons of great recipes that lots of us have posted, take advantage of them...
  6. At the old Currie Barracks in Calgary at the farmers market there are two gluten-free markets. One is Baked goods; cookies, buns, bread mix (their own), breads, lasagne, pizza, pizza crust, pies and crust and coming soon, stuffing. This place is called Terra Cotto and right across from them is Sunworks with gluten/wheat free, free range, no antibiotics etc...
  7. When I joined the Celiac Association, they gave me a book I carry in my purse at all times and a thing that hangs on my fridge. Check with your Celiac Chapter where you live and see if they have that also.
  8. I find most doctors are not well informed, I truly wonder why they went to school for 7 years, or did they. Most of us are more informed than they are and this includes specialists. I talked with another Celiac today who lost her best friend to the disease because they never diagnosed her until she was on her death bed. The blood tests were always negative...
  9. Karen, Prednisone is by far one of the worst. You gain weight the fastest on it and lose weight exceedingly slow. Not only that but it can cause other problems with prolonged use. When they give it to me to take if it is only one little pill for 3 days, I will take it, if it is 10 pills a day...now way. My last big episode with it took over a year to...
  10. Dances, Are those elephants in your bedroom or kitchen? I suggest you get peanuts and dog biscuits or they will eat all your gluten-free cookies.
  11. Karen, Was it Prednisone you were on. It is by far one of the worst steroids going. Every time I have a severe asthma attack or get stung by a wasp they try to feed me that stuff. I gain 60 lbs in a week on that nasty stuff. Then it takes forever to come off.
  12. It could be or it could be an allergy to other things also. Perhaps keep a diary of what you eat each day.
  13. My first taste of gluten-free bread was rice bread. First I put it in the toaster, then I had to take the toaster apart to get all the burnt crumbs out. Then I tried to butter it, well that piece of bread disintegrated as I spread it on it, so I melted it and poured it on. When I tried to eat it, it fell apart and all down the inside of my shirt into my bra...
  14. I saw the dermatologist who said I couldn't have DH because it was in other places and not the normal places, he was suprised I was gluten intolerant because of my weight. I informed him I know other people with celiac disease who have the same problems right down to the weight. He stood there shocked. I then asked him to do a skin biopsy. We shall see,...
  15. Welcome to the site. It has been great site for me and I hope you will find it the same for you.
  16. I do not eat a lot of meat, never have. I am allergic to what they are shooting into the critters and the red dye in the beef. Not only that but I only really like seafood or poultry. When I get my poultry it is from a man whose chickens are free range, no antibiotics etc. I would have been the worlds worst farmer because I could never kill anything I...
  17. This year as I am chief gravy maker and turkey stuffer. I have opted to make the stuffing with gluten-free cranberry bread and chestnuts. As we all love chestnuts, I figure that will be a great mix.
  18. As I write this I am going mad with not just itchy back but head etc. I have had to go back on gluten for this week, which ends tomorrow. When I was off of gluten I did not have an itchy back, head, etc. Now I am at work and losing my mind from it, I would say there is a correlation.
  19. Just a little added attraction from me. Since going gluten-free I find I no longer crave chocolate, coke or chips. I have my bananas and right now chinese mandarins, pomegranates. I have lost all interest in everything sweet, it tastes far too sweet for me now.
  20. I find when I have been gluten-free or not glutened, I have no interest in sweet things. Actually they taste so vulgar I have tossed it out. Soon as I have been in the gluten or glutened by accident I go wild for the sweet things. I am never so happy as when I have my test on Monday then, I can be gluten-free again and I never want to go back to gluten again...
  21. I agree, you don't have to starve. The bread may cost a little more but you can get some good bread mixes. You can get vegetables, frozen shrimps, chicken ( I pay a little more for my chicken it is free range no drugs or antibiotics). I make stir frys all the time and have rice with them. I use Tamari soy sauce check to make sure you get the wheat/ gluten...
  22. I have found that being gluten free I know longer crave or have an interest in chocolate, coke or a lot of junk foods. However, when on gluten I crave those things. Has anyone else found they no longer crave the sweet things or vice versa.
  23. All my life I have had health issues, kidney etc. When I was 20 I got asthma, allergies etc. The last 6 years were the years of my anemia, and other weird things along with skin things which is probably DH. My burning stomach started 6 years ago and so did a great deal of my teeth, hair and stomach problems. So this could have been an underlying thing my...
  24. I had that happen at work, before I found out any of this. I went to stand up and I couldn't and had extreme pain in my hips and legs. Sometimes I will get it in just one leg. But for the very short time I was gluten-free I did not have even the pains in my legs. Now, this week it is back with a vengence because I have to eat gluten this week.
  25. Right now I feel like one big itch machine. I thought perhaps it might have needed to be on both calves but then that is fine. Sometimes I itch without a rash. My face, back and chest always get it the worst, right now I look like an adolescent with zit face but it is not pimples. I never started having any of this till 6 years ago when I had the anemia,...
