ARCHIVED Gluten Free Fried Rice-like Rice A Roni-is There Any?
Rusla replied to kathy1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This recipe was given to me by a Thai girl at work. You cut in small pieces and fry up chicken breast is a little bit of olive or peanut oil. Take chicken out and fry up green onion, peas or brocolli, egg fy and then and cooked rice. Add a small amount of gluten-free fish sauce and gluten-free tamari or soy sauce, fry them all together and add the fried... -
In 2001 and 2002 Celiac disease was considered a disability and you could have an additional deduction. This is the last year you can claim that deduction which could net you up to a $3000. refund. You have to have the disability form filled out and after talking to Revenue Canada I can claim back to 2001 and 2002 because Celiac disease was probably something...

ARCHIVED Poll: What's Your Favorite gluten-free Cookbook?
Rusla replied to mamaathome's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I love my Bette Hagman books, but I have many wheat/gluten-free cook books and I adapt recipes from my non gluten-free cookbooks also. -
ARCHIVED Is Anyone Juicing?
Rusla replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I imagine the juice would go faster in to the blood stream. Eating the vegetables they would take longer to digest but I think both ways are good and if you prefer the juice then I would go with that. I do fruit and I like to make smoothies and eat the fruit. The best of both worlds in my opinion. -
I truly don't consider them a pleasant reminder because, mine comes out on my face under my nose, corners of my mouth and below my bottom lip. It makes a mess out of my face. I feel like a leper, but certainly know when the smallest grain of wheat.

ARCHIVED Will I Ever Feel Better?
Rusla replied to ebrbetty's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I make my smoothies with wheat/gluten free dessert or flavored tofus, orange juice or other juices, fresh fruit and some water and ice. It is like having a giant slurpee that is really great. Some days, that is all I have all day. -
Before my diagnosis that was my life for 30 years and each year was worse than the one before. If I ate anything with gluten in it I had to be at the bathroom within ten minutes or else. If I at any after 12 noon then it was a big problem. Big time pains and sweating were the norm. Now since being gluten-free I only get that when I am glutened by accident...

Silver, You are far from alone, as I am a rapid cycler. I wonder just how many bipolars have celiac and vice versa. I have had to learn to control my bipolar without meds as my sensitivity to meds made it impossible to use them. I have noticed since being gluten-free that my hair trigger temper isn't as bad.

ARCHIVED Can I Vent For A Second.....
Rusla replied to gymnastjlf's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There are days I think about pizza, or cake or some other wheat substance. Then I remember the pain, the dh and the big D and there is no way I would intentionally go off the diet. -
Darn, that is why I had a reaction around Christmas, because we were playing cranium and I had to use the play dough. I just couldn't figure out what I had been into because I knew I did not eat any wheat.

ARCHIVED Can I Vent For A Second.....
Rusla replied to gymnastjlf's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am sorry for everyone who has to go through episodes like this with inconsiderate people.I know we all do go through these. The point it was not a vote just because that is what you wanted to eat but what you could eat. It was terribly rude of them not to all sit down with you and say well how about this place, can you eat there? Right now the same... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free And Dairy Free
Rusla replied to BamBam's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Beware of some rice milks, they are not gluten- free. Rice Dream is not gluten free and it is not on the package. I had to visit their site to find that out. Some rice milks list barley or malt on their packages. -
ARCHIVED Did You Know Someone With Celiac
Rusla replied to carriecraig's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I knew a woman ten years ago that had Celiac, she was rake thin but still cooked with wheat flour and ate things made with wheat. She lost all her teeth and would lose weight if she ate wheat but she never said it endangered her health. I think she really didn't know how dangerous it was because doctors are no better versed in Celiac now than ten years ago... -
ARCHIVED Most Annoying Comments/questions
Rusla replied to carriecraig's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I bet the Celiac was the murderer because she couldn't eat pizza or bread. When we found out I had it the first thing my mother said was," a little bit won't hurt." I then said to her, "if you don't have Cummadan (sp?) for a week it won't hurt." She quickly said that was not true and I said to her to look at my disease like her not taking her drugs.... -
ARCHIVED Update On Some Cosmetics....also Need Lotion Advice.
Rusla replied to Moongirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I emailed avon asking them and their direct quote back was this, "We have no idea what is in any of our cosmetics, scents, shampoos and bath products as they are made by various other companies. We do not find it necessary at this time to request the ingredients." -
In beef there are numerous dye's and growth hormones. I was allergic to those well over 20 years ago and quit eating beef. One because of that and two because of the fact I didn't care for it either. I used to get even more sick from the beef. The other thing is cattle eat wheat and not knowing what the base in the dye's or the quick grow hormones are I would...

Hiya Silver, I have been to Idaho plenty of times in the past, BC (Before Celiac). I have been through most of the midwest and Northern States, NY being the exception. Okay I know Trader Joes is on the West Coast in the US but not in the Wild West (lol). I guess Swiss Chalet is a Canadian thing. I know the rural 338 people thing. I used to live in...

ARCHIVED Why Does Gluten Keep Us From Sleeping
Rusla replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I rarely was able to sleep and spent much of the time running to the bathroom before being gluten-free. My body would itch all night long. Now, I do not itch all night, I may itch a bit. I do not get up almost every half hour to go to the bathroom, actually maybe a few times a night and most of the time not at all. I also sleep better than I ever have before... -
ARCHIVED Bowel Movements Worsening After 2 Weeks gluten-free
Rusla replied to Jeepster's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Think of all the years worth of gluten in your body. It has to clean out first so your body has to adjust to no gluten and flush the rest out. I get little bouts of that still but I have only been gluten-free for slightly over a month and if I get a slight accidental glutening it is like I am back at square one. -
ARCHIVED Really Getting Frustrated Again!
Rusla replied to danikali's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Dani, I have been gluten-free over a month and I still get that from time to time also. I also get it when I get a minor glutening, like from the desk at work. Perhaps your glucosamine or other supps have a wheat based filler. -
I started going to this one when he saved me from another doctor who would have let me die from pernicious anemia. Now this one after seven years has really gone down hill. It was revealed to me yesterday that my family doctor has been reported to the the board of physicians and surgeons many times by other doctors because of things he hasn't done. I have...

As one of my many varied occupations in my life, one was I was also a chef, but no longer. However, today I thought if I had the funding I would start a gluten-free restaurant. I have a friend who is also a chef that has to be gluten-free and it would be the first of it's kind in the city. You can change it where you are too. You can become famous for...

ARCHIVED Accidentally Glutened
Rusla replied to kkelly's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Your reaction to wheat grass sounds like a bonafide allergy. With a glutening everyone reacts differently and takes different amounts of time to recover. It is the same for me. Depends how much I have been glutened and as to how long it takes for me to recover. -
As of this year in Canada, Celiacs, with the signing of a special form can now deduct their food from income tax. Since being diagnosed at the end of November, my family doctor who has been nothing but reluctant and muley will not sign the form for me. I am searching for another doctor and don't want to go through tests all over again and gluten to get...
