  1. If it was me and you want to save on expense why not only have a gluten-free cake and not bother telling anyone that it is.
  2. I have two cats, one who likes to kiss me like I kiss her. The only way I get glutened is from the litter box because all clay and clumping liters that do not flush have wheat in them to keep the smell down. I wear gloves and a mask to clean the box and then wash right after. Their food is not a problem for me, as I don't plan on eating it.
  3. I am also in Calgary. No wonder I am lacking excitement, I am all out of mints.
  4. My TSH always read normal. So, they had to do an antibody and ultra sound, which both were terribly abnormal. My antibodies are 3.5 times the normal for Hashimoto's.
  5. Rice Dream milk does have barley or malt in it although it is not on the package. I suggest going to their website as they list each item and what it contains. Open Original Shared Link
  6. Lollie, I am sorry your mother is not getting this. Some people are afraid of the unknown and it is better to bury their heads in the sand than seeing things for what it really is. My worry was my mother also but I did it in a way she could really understand. I used her medication, without it she could die. I told her I would eat a little gluten if she...
  7. Way to go Lynne, thanks a lot. I don't have a lot of time to do the things I like which includes writing a lot of these companies. Some I have written to do not write back or send snotty messages like P & G. Part of my business involves makeup and other stuff. Much of the make up NAO and Artistry both have numerous things that do not contain Wheat...
  8. You may also have to wipe down your desk at work or any equipement if shared with others. I kept getting sick and my DH would crop up within hours from crumbs on the desk that I didn't know were there. So to avoid having that problem again, I put on my vinyl gloves and wipe everything down on the desk I am using; mouse, keyboard, telephone, everything. I...
  9. I will not knowingly eat anything that has been produced in a building with wheat produced products. Even if they sterilize the equipment, there could be wheat dust on the lights, rafters etc.
  10. I remind my self of the pain and suffering I suffered with wheat and gluten and I don't miss it anymore. If it is pizza I am missing I make myself a gluten-free one the way I like, with pesto sauce.
  11. I was strange before so, this hasn't changed anything in that respect. Just I will be a gluten-free person forever. Let us not think of ourselves as abnormal but that we are more normal than those eating gluten. How many of them are having problems and not knowing why? I prefer to think we are special, the chosen ones of the gods.
  12. Are you talking about baked beans, pork and beans, kidney beans etc.? Or just one specific type of beans? Baked beans and pork and beans may contain gluten. Make sure you read labels and if in doubt check it out. Kidney beans and other beans I have found mostly okay. Of course you could always buy the above beans in dry form soak them and cook them yourself...
  13. Well, I play it safe and make my own. I use tomato sauce, garlic and red, green and yellow peppers with oregano, basil, onions, mushrooms etc.
  14. When I wrote to Avon one month ago their reply was this,"We have no idea of the ingredients in any of our products as they are made by other companies. We do not find it necessary to require a list of ingredients from them at this time or in the near future." If you do not think I was pissed off, think again.
  15. I don't think there is anyone of us on here who didn't have a problem giving up gluten. Over 15 years ago when I was told I had a wheat allergy and should give up the gluten, I figured as long as it was not shortening my life then I would continue. Well, as it was really Celiac but know one knew or tested etc. I did not know then the hazards of having Celiac...

    ARCHIVED Finding A Doctor

It doesn't hurt. They scrape off some of the skin that is dry scaley by the sores. The freaking affliction hurts more than the biopsy. I had to go back on gluten for a week just so I would have an huge outbreak. My dh can show up in a few hours with even a slight glutening. The dermatologist was not going to do it because it wasn't in the "normal" place...

    ARCHIVED Time/warner Ceo

I am in on this one too.
  18. Some of mine improved within the first couple of weeks. The rest will take more time, I suspect.
  19. I haven't had a gall bladder since I was 20. They need to go back to the drawing board.
  20. I had the same problem with gluten along with the smell and when I first went gluten-free that is when they started to float. I have no problems with apples I eat 3 or more a day.
  21. Frget the "personal picture" one, just do the avatar and add your picture through the browse function. It will take awhile to come up.

    ARCHIVED Finding A Doctor

Have them do a skin biopsy, I forced them to do one on me. It came back as DH and if you have DH you are Celiac. Not all celiacs get it but only Celiacs get it. Getting the skin biopsy saved me going through a stomach biopsy.
  23. I decided to dial up Toblerone even tho I have had no problems with their chocolate. Toblerone is put out by Kraft and they assured me as with all their products they will not only list wheat and gluten but they will list if it is made in a facility that may contain any of them. Just thought I would let everyone know. I told Kraft it was great to have...
  24. Please post their email address so that we can all send them a letter. I certainly hope they will pay the $25. a letter it will cost for the doctor to do this. How dare they insult our intelligence like we don't know what we have or how it affects us.
  25. Thanks for sharing this with us, it is very informative and interesting.
