ARCHIVED gluten-free Canadian Bacon In The U.s.
Rusla replied to teankerbell's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Canadian bacon and Back Bacon are the same thing. Find out which companies have back bacon and contact them or it should be on the label. In Canada there is one brand that does not have gluten in it but I can't remember the name. -
I just got back from the beautiful Island of Jamaica. I was accidentally glutened exactly twice and that was during the wedding. That was because during the meal the chicken and the beef were brought out with these funky looking sticks in them as an ornamet and they were pasta sticks twisted and cooked in that position. I was not too sure about the sauce...

Remember everyone Deborah has been working on the "Celiac Freedom Cruise" for April of 2008. Got to www.celiacfreedomcruise.com We have decided that a week of touring the eastern Caribbean with no label reading will give us a week of no accidental glutenings. She set this up on her own time and her nor anyone else involved are making money on this. All...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free In-flight Meals?
Rusla replied to erin24's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I usually have not good things to say about Air Canada but I have to give them an A this time on my trip to Jamaica. On the way over I was booked for a gluten-free meal. However for some reason the purser took it off the list. They gave me an omelet which should have not had gluten in it, I ate a minute amount and was in the bathroom in 5 minutes. They found... -
ARCHIVED Where Is Your Stomach Pain Located
Rusla replied to gointribal's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
For me it is above and feels like someone has set fire to my insides along with the feeling of being stabbed with a dull knife and someone twisting it. Now for dairy mine is in the abdomin below the navel. -
Pretty well all of aveda products contain some form of wheat. All of their hair products do.

I didn't get rolling eyes when I asked specific questions. I got deer in the headlights looks. I think mainly because 3/4 of what works at these places now doesn't speak English. The staff roll over is phenominal at these minimum wage places.

ARCHIVED Going gluten-free
Rusla replied to chrissy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am sure you are on the right step. Are you the one with the stubborn son? If so, has he come around yet? -
I think Second Cup is a Canadian company and that is their own brand. I was so sick and my stomach still hurts from it, I honestly thought it was okay but it didn't take more than 5 min for me to have a violent reaction.

Jamaican and Cuban Rum are gluten-free actually all rum is but those are the best rums. I will drink some for you if I recover from today's glutening. I hope we make it off the ground with the rotten weather we have been having.
-
I know that some artificial flavors are gluten-free but obviously this one is not. The brand is Second Cups own brand of hot chocolate. It is called Second Cup something or other, you can only get it at their stores.
-
Tomorrow I probably won't be on here before I leave for Jamaica. So, I will talk to everyone when I get back next Sunday. I will be querying resorts etc., as to gluten-free fare.
-
I read the ingredients on the hot chocolate and thought it was okay. Except for some reason I missed the "artificial flavor". Well, I had a small cup of hot chocolate and didn't even get halfway through when I started to prespire heavily and get extreme pains in my stomach. Then I was running for the mall bathroom with "D" and nausea. Be ye warned the flavor...

I believe for people who have no symptoms it is much harder for them than, for us who do suffer. It is also more difficult fo those who are trying to cook dinners with gluten for some of their family and for those who can't have gluten. They are getting glutened by accident while making food for them and it is hard on them, it is like having an alcoholic...

ARCHIVED Any Teeth Grinders Out There?
Rusla replied to DonnaD's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have always clenched and ground my teeth awake or asleep. I couldn't wear a guard at night because my tongue would kick it out and I would start to choke. During waking hours my tongue would flip the guard out of my mouth when I was talking and I became adept at catching it in mid air. I broke teeth, so many times. However, now thanks to the diseae totally... -
I have never cheated and never plan to because I don't like suffering. Cheating would cause me suffering. Everytime I think I miss pizza, I make my gluten-free pizza. If I miss certain things in Chinese food, I have them make me something I can have that I like equally as well. I have enough problems with accidental glutenings, I don't need to cheat.

ARCHIVED I Am A Little Freaked Out By What Im Reading
Rusla replied to hungryforlife's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Geeze, I can relate to the sitting in the doctors office for hours. I used to have a doctors appoint with a previous doctor. It was booked for 9 am, I had to book the whole day off work because I would never get in till 6 pm. I figured it was maybe snotty office staff you were having problems with. You have problems, a doctor that doesn't care and the... -

ARCHIVED Major D All Day Today - Panic Over Work Tomorrow
Rusla replied to DingoGirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I can so relate to your problems. When I was a bus driver most of my routes there were no bathrooms on them. So, I would have to take immodium and never eat because I could not take the chance of not being near a bathroom. I hate to say it but jobs like these are not for people like us. -
ARCHIVED Whistler Restaurants
Rusla replied to fisharefriendsnotfood's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
You stand a very good chance of finding gluten-free food there because 1) it is in BC and 2) it is close enough proximity to Vancouver. I will be talking to my sister soon, so I will ask her for you, if she knows of any. -
