Alannis appeared for one season. You can see clips from the shows she was on through Youtube. -

Wow, ya learn something new every day. DEFCON, huh? Polyglot, DEFCON, boracic...great new vocabulary that I must try to slip into my cocktail-party chatter. Sheesh, I have enough trouble being an actual wife...now I'm virtual one, too? And where, pray, are all the other male posters? This thread reeks of estrogen (I'm assuming most of us are pre... -

You're so right. Hence that infamous question..."DTMMLF?" (too lazy to type it out yet again). -
I've been curious about this for some time, and just realized that I now have the perfect resource to get responses from everywhere. Does anyone remember the fantastic (some bias here!) show "You Can't Do That on Television?" It began as a little comedy, much like Laugh-In, filmed here in Ottawa. It ran for ten seasons, and was picked up by Nickelodeon...

Boracic...boracic...isn't that an..adjective...pertaining to...boron? Boron being, let's see (straining mental chemistry archive--argh!), a chemical they mix with steel? Another brand new question! Are pennies boracic? I'm certain the Canadian ones aren't. Another question: Would wearing a bra made of boracic material make me look less fat? -

Man, pennies are NOT lucky. Now, hundred-dollar bills, THEY are fortuitous. I actually have done worse than scatter them in a parking lot--I have THROWN THEM OUT. Yes, in the garbage. This might just be illegal. I find one on my dresser, a couple on my car seat, two in the washer. They're EVERYWHERE, and they're useless, and the garbage can is sitting... -

Hmmmmm....the apostle Thomas....there was something about him having two (hence, the twin, perhaps) paradoxical personalities--pessimism vs. zealous faith, or something. Okay, okay...since pennies are worth nothing, and they're simply a nuisance whether found in your dresser, the clothes dryer, OR the parking lot, I say it's big-time littering. Do you... -

Oh, Tom the twin! (Yes, "Thomas" actually does mean "twin"...no leg-pulling, here). The meaning derives from "Doubting Thomas", who wandered around in the Bible at some point (help me out, biblical people!). As I strain my academic recall, I believe he was an apostle who doubted Christ's claim of having risen from the dead. I think he was insisting on... -

Tom! To mark your recent terrific resurrection, you should change your forum title to "Whatze-on?" Though Tom is a great name. Did you know it means "twin?" I will now dredge the recent shallows of this thread for the ikkwipseh... -

Wow! I missed a discussion with honest-to-goodness, for-real IQPVSIs??! (see previous post for anachronym referral). Man, I must scroll back into the early depths of this thread to find all this. Where have you guys BEEN all my life? Tom: I just looked up "thesaurus" in my thesaurus--how very surreal it all gets. It offers, "lexicography" and "polyglot... -

Okay, I think I'm getting the gist (jist?) of things...kind of a stream-of-consciousness dialogue about anything, preferably hilarious. Let's see... Have any of you girls ever actually asked your significant others that infamous, loaded question...are you ready?..."Does this make me look fat?" The reason I ask is because I have never, in all of my life... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease And Mental Illness
elye replied to ASwinger's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There is an incredible accupressure technique (at least, it has been incredible for me and to literally all of the others I have introduced it to), called EFT. It remains remarkably unknown in the mainstream (ha! Much like celiac disease), but all of the energy system principles from acupuncture are there. You can access the free manual and literature on... -

Alright, then... Late last night, I had to drive to the 24 hour drugstore. As I was walking towards the door to go in, an employee came out and started to lock the door. "Hey", I said, "I thought you guys were open 24 hours!" The kid looked at me and said, "Not in a ROW". -

Okay, so Nikki has recruited me over here from a technical thread. How do I ease myself into such frenzied madness that is the Tickle Me thread? I have never participated in a post that lasted longer than about ten pages, so this is new, uncharted territory for me. I feel...scared...exhilerated...and under great pressure to be as silly and outright HILARIOUS... -
This has long been one of the main reasons I have a dog, and always a big one who needs exercise. For me, there is nothing like jogging with my best friend right there beside me, revelling in the feel of exertion. And it really gets you out there...I'm much more likely to head out in the evening or early morning if I have this big, expectant face peering...

Isn't it hilarious...all of us (at least me, for sure) having such marvelous, human to-do-lists, full of checking out what certain people have posted here. A couple of weeks ago when I was hovering around 499 posts, I was making supper when I suddenly put down the mixing spoon and announced, "Mygawd! I am about to cross a great threshold...what am I doing... -
ARCHIVED How Sick Were You On Gluten?
elye replied to amberleigh's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Now, to the other end of the spectrum... It actually is miraculous that I was diagnosed with celiac at all. I had NO symptoms, other than low iron. I owe it to my very with-it family doctor who, because of the type one diabetes, may have suspected something autoimmune and sent me for the celiac panel. I probably can credit her for saving my life, as... -

ARCHIVED Anyone Else See Sicko?
elye replied to floridanative's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Yes, and in Canada, once you are into one specialist, they will often send you to others, and it is very efficient. My endo sent me to a haemotologist at the beginning of my find-the-reason-for-my-chronically-low-iron problem...he in turn sent me to a gastro, where I got the celiac diagnosis. From him, I got into my dermatologist. These are all specialists... -

Okay, so now that I'm above the magic 500 posts, I thought I'd try to come up with some brilliant little thing to put under my avatar instead of "advanced community member"--although that does have a nice, respectable ring to it. Where do I go in my controls to change this? -
Hey, there, Okay, I can't really help with your first question, as I don't know much about the fecal test...apparently, it is VERY accurate when compared to the blood panel and even the biopsy. 2. Many people who are gluten intolerant are underweight. A person's weight, whether high or low, is not an indicator either way of celiac, nor a ruling out of...

False negatives are absolutely possible with the celiac blood panel. False positives aren't, so if celiac is presented in the blood work, you're celiac for sure. The biopsy can also yield false negatives--the lower intestine is twenty-two feet long, so there is a real possibility of a damaged area being missed by the camera or the knife. Time and again...

ARCHIVED Anyone Else See Sicko?

This is all resonating eerily for me. My healthy, 56 year-old brother-in-law suffered a massive stroke last September, and has been in a long-term care hospital here in Ottawa since then. Nothing has awakened me to the plight of our broken health-care system like what I have seen in this hospital each time I am there with him. Lack of resources adds up... -
ARCHIVED Being Gluten Free
elye replied to radgirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ditto with me...and I'm somewhat at a disadvantage, because my reactions to gluten are quite subtle, so I'm sure I've been cc'd and not been aware of it. One advantage of being ultra-sensitive to gluten--you know when you've slipped up!
