Thanks for the update, mouse...now we all sit and wait, with bated breath...

Great suggestions, everyone. Our flight is six hours, and we leave at 7:30 pm. I guess I'll take a valerian once we're in the air (I can NEVER sleep on planes!) and maybe get up extra early that morning so I'll be tired...I drink a ton of water normally, so extra water will be no problem. I may have to do my morning injection at 4 am for the last couple...

I'm looking for advice on what I can take to help with jetlag. We are travelling to Europe in the summer, so I will be suddenly faced with a six hour time difference. Now, this will be bad enough for my diabetes control (timed injections and meals...things will be quite screwed up the first couple of days!), but I'm equally concerned about getting to sleep...

ARCHIVED Low Blood Sugar Levels, Anyone Else Dealing With This
elye replied to dally099's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yep, I too am type one diabetic and your blood sugar levels are normal. How about hypothyroidism--have you had this checked? Many of us who have a couple of autoimmune conditions also have low thyroid...tends to come with the territory, and hypothyroidism can keep you exhausted. My energy levels went way up when I started on thyroid meds and got myself... -

YYYYYYEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSS.....!!!! Game one down, three to go!! WOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOO!!!!! -
Lynne welcomed me so wholeheartedly when I first joined this forum, and made me laugh at my silly fears and unwarraranted complaints about my yucky new disease. I'm sending my prayers, too, Lynne, and hope I can return the favour by sending some laughter your way when you're back on here with us...

Okay, so we start our series Thursday night against Buffalo, eliminate them in six, then move on to Detroit and take the Stanley Cup, again in six. -
Gosh, where have I been? I'd never heard of these great things!

This is a GREAT product for those of us who at times like to eat breakfast out, or who keep eating our gluten-free bread untoasted because we haven't gotten around to getting a second toaster: www.toastabags.com

...And most of her "genetically European" friends, as well!

I"ve always liked Detroit, too...love Steve Yzerman...a really classy guy. ...kinda like Alfie...! -
I started a thread like this last year without much interest, so I thought I'd try again...C'mon, you fellow Canadians! Who's gonna take the Stanley Cup this year? Amazing that there is such interest in who is going to take the American Idol title, but so little in the Holy Grail of North American Hockey. I'm a rabid Senators fan, so that is where my heart...

For our own selfish celiac purposes , those on this thread should PLEASE go to the thread about getting in touch with Oprah, which started a couple of weeks ago. We've been trying for eons to come up with a way to get Oprah to finally listen and do an entire show on this devastating, common illness. Really attention-getting symptoms is likely the way....

ARCHIVED Can Your Blunted Villi Make Your A/d Not Work?
elye replied to mflanders's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Great advice so far, and I only have one thing to add: you may want to start taking digestive enzymes, or probiotics. Easily googled! -
Ah, yes, potato flour...of course! And chickpea flour...they are available at Bulk Barn. But I've never seen coconut flour or any seed flours. I'll have to get on the phone. Thanks for these suggestions!

Hmmmm. How do we know Oprah doesn't have celiac disease? She could very well, like so many others in the world, be walking around with vague symptoms (or none except an inability to keep nagging weight off, as was the case with me) and have no idea. I do believe it is very much her responsibility to do a show about it, because if she doesn't have it herself...

I need some creative help. Can anyone offer me a suggestion for a flour substitute to put in my home-made gluten-free muffins? In the last few months I've eliminated all grains from my diet, but the one thing I really miss is my afternoon muffin with tea. This is quite challenging...I've tried to replace my gluten-free flour with what I've got in the house...

Really, Really Foul Breath Post-glutening?
elye replied to Kyalesyin's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That does sound exactly like the smell of a person's breath when they have ketones present in their blood. I've been a tightly controlled type one diabetic for a long time, so I haven't given off that smell in ages. But fermenting wine, rotten fruit, sour milk...these were the things that I've always heard "ketone breath" described like. Your wife doesn... -
ARCHIVED Where To Start?
elye replied to BUGTWIG's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I completely agree. Save your money that you'd spend on books and start reading and asking questions on here...it's been the BEST source of information, and equally important, support, I could have hoped to find. Welcome to our (sometimes crazy!) group! -
Hi, Azul, and welcome... I'd agree that your milk intake is quite high. Even if you don't have an official problem with it, I would decrease this, because as gfp has said, milk just ain't right for adult mammals to be consuming. My intake is very low--only the odd hunk of cheese and live bacterial yogurt, which is good to eat daily for its acidophilus...

I'm afraid my personal account to Oprah was just too eye-rolling and boring...low iron and vague GI stuff. But I am serious when I put the call out to the countless people who have eye-opening, incredible stories about what gluten has done to them. Really, I'm certain that this is the magic bullet to get Oprah finally to look our way, after all the posts...

That is a great idea! The producers of Oprah's show are simply rolling their eyes at stories of weekends spent in the bathroom with unrelenting D, of nagging migraines, of brain fog, of stomachs that look nine months pregnant...I can just see their eyes glazing over. They need to hear from those who have had countless miscarriages, a failed marriage, spectacular...

Unfortunately, he isn't as familiar with the disease as we all are, or he'd be ALL OVER Oprah to do a complete show on celiac and its myriad debilitating symptoms...

elye replied to VegasCeliacBuckeye's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
If my kids knew I was on here yacking about pooping and farting...I'm always the one saying in my most authoritative, Mother voice, "stop laughing and commenting on such things! They're NOT funny!" And here I am, gaffawing away... -
