  1. Thanks for the quick response. I'd be surprised if that was it for several reasons. 1) I haven't had any nitrogen anesthesia, at least not for several years. It's always propofol (in the hospital) or fentanyl in a doctors office, always administered via IV. Also, dietary sources of B12 include eggs, cheese, dairy, fish, and some meats. That's basically...
  2. First let me say that I'm a weak-minded person regarding some things Haven't been on the board in a long time, but had an interesting experience and wanted to get other thoughts on the matter. I was confirmed by endo biopsies and blood tests in 2014. I had DH for 4yrs prior to that, and no one at that time could figure it out...same tale as most...
  3. I believe that shingles only present on one side of the body. DH is bilateral.
  4. I travel a lot for business, so this is a constant challenge for me, and I have conversations with chefs and staff all the time. My safest bet, generally speaking, is a steakhouse. I can pretty much always get a wedge salad (check for gluten free blue cheese dressing, but at a steak house, usually made in-house), and a ribeye steak. Sometimes it...
  5. I make smoothies all the time... 1 cup Kefir, plain (available at most grocery stores now, in the yogurt section) 1/2 half and half fresh strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, whatever is available (can use frozen too) 1tsp stevia. some ice, if using fresh berries Tastes like a milk shake from days gone by. p.s...
  6. So my DH is back, and seems to have taken up a very strong defensive position firmly entrenched in all the usual spots. Much is my own fault...my wife decided for her Bday that she was going to have treats...I decided she should not have to go it alone, so I had treats too. Several great beers...and some coconut cake for dessert. Ugh. That was August...
  7. Biopsy for this is pretty easy to screw up. For confirmation, my doc wanted an endoscopy, which was fine because I needed on for my Barrett's anyway. After the procedure, the GI doc said if there was any doubt in anyone's mind before, it was now officially diagnosed with 0% chance that I did NOT have Celiac. In fact, I'm getting ready to get on the...
  8. Having dealt with this for awhile now, and with both of us being pretty good cooks...we are well aware of the cost of ingredients and "healthy" foods... BUT We buy and prepare these ingredients all the time. I just feel like that's an obvious overcharge...but hey, that's just me. I wouldn't have gone near Chic Fil A either...but based on your comment...
  9. I just looked at the link for the bakery...Holy ...are you kidding with those prices? Yikes. An 8X8 pan of brownies is $13?...9X13 is $24? I'm in the wrong business. Life must be good down there in Sarasota I live North of there in Dunedin. Small town. We only have 1 gluten free spot, Serendipity, but the restaurant community as a whole is pretty...

It's not too bad. Almost worth the tradeoff for such a wonderful meal. Can't wait to go back But WON'T be having paella...lol This is probably the least/slightest breakout I've had for awhile. Peaked on Sat night, started dropping off a bit by last night, and not bad today at all. We went out for sushi awhile back, forgot to bring the bottle...

    ARCHIVED Dh Please Help

Well...got glutened last Friday. Funny how two people who are BOTH rabid regarding my food intake can still get fooled. We went out to eat at a very nice restaurant...I would rate a solid 8.5-9, and that's rare for us to go that high. We informed the waiter of my Celiac condition when we were seated, and had him ask the chef about several different things...
  13. Biopsies are one way of diagnosing. I've been diagnosed, but never had a biopsy of a lesion done. My understanding is that it must be taken adjacent to a lesion, and that this is one of the reasons that SO many tests come back negative...person doing the biopsy didn't know it had to be done beside, not IN the lesion.
  14. Good news? ...Sure. 1) You're alive 2) They don't need to cut anything out 3) You don't need to spend the rest of your life ingesting some psychotropic chemical compound 4) You don't need to go on radiation therapy A friend of mine would tell you this is a "first world" problem Yes, you have to watch what you eat, but honestly, people shouldn...
  15. Karen, It can take some time for the rash to disappear. Also beware of any possibility of cross-contamination, which is a very real possibility, and will prolong the rash. It's at best very difficult to be gluten free if you ever eat anything outside of your own kitchen. Even places that offer gluten-free choices may or may not be aware of the cross contamination...

Squirm, Unfortunately, my travel is primarily flying, and that rules out a lot of options. Try taking a thermos on a plane with you these days And yes, we make wonderful meals, still, at home and have adjusted quite nicely. I haven't found a really good pizza crust yet, but that's ok, part of the fun is in the search. But every now and then.....

    ARCHIVED Dh Please Help

Results were GI Doc saying "Well...you were right, definitely Celiac" I told him there was no doubt in my mind, because went I went gluten-free, my rash almost disappeared. It took awhile after the endo...and I actually got bombed, maybe twice...stupid stuff. I travel alot, sometimes aLOT...for work, and that can be difficult. Last Friday I didn't get...
  19. Sure sounds like it could be DH to me. Most of the same areas that I get. When you say "tested"...exactly what tests were performed? Blood panels?, and if so, which ones? Tricky thing about blood panels, especially the older ones, is that a good percentage of those that test negative actually DO have Celiacs. Jim

    ARCHIVED Endoscopy

Well...so far it's still on the uptake. It appears that at least for me, DH is dependent on the level of gluten in my system...and there's a lag between the intake of gluten, and the appearance of my DH. I totally stopped gluten upon being diagnosed. It took about 2wks for things to start to settle down. Then the GI doc wanted me back on gluten to establish...

    ARCHIVED Endoscopy

Well...I shut off the gluten last Sunday, and DH is still increasing. Hopefully will taper off now, since that's what it did when I first went gluten-free. I remember being like this ALL THE TIME before being diagnosed. Not fun, as everyone here well knows.
  22. I agree with SRMI and Raven. These are two completely different things, and not knowing the difference is a sure sign that your doctor is no where near up to speed on Celiac. Remember, doctors work for YOU. If they're not up to the task, fire them and move on. This is YOUR health, and it can be a critical issue.

    ARCHIVED Dh Please Help

Well, this weekend marked the end of my gluten-gluttony My DH has come back, though still not at the levels it was at when I was first diagnosed. Last night, sitting in the couch watching television, some place on my body would start itching about every 30 seconds. My cheek, my scalp, my elbow, my back...just like old times It's still somewhat...
