I think the texture is a little better - less dense and chewy in the middle. Although they are still chewy. I only made the "other" recipe once and everyone liked the taste, but wasn't thrilled with the texture. Perhaps I wasn't good at making them though.

Here is a much simpler recipe - it doesn't require heating the milk or anything and goes together in just a few minutes. I usually make a bigger batch (2 C flour and 4 eggs and adjust everything else too). Brazilian Cheese Rolls 1-1/3 C Tapioca Flour 1-1/3 C grated cheese (or 1 C Sheep Milk Romano) 3 Eggs 2-4 tsp. Milk 2 tsp. Olive oil 2 tsp...

ARCHIVED Grocery Outlet
lonewolf posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We have a Grocery Outlet near us (in the Seattle area) and I happened to be there yesterday while the owner was unpacking a huge pile of Glutino cookies and pretzels. There were several varieties of cookies and he said he had more in the back. If you live close to a Grocery Outlet go check it out! (I think they also have another name in other states -... -
ARCHIVED Celiac 4x Higher In Ibs Patients
lonewolf replied to happygirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
All I got back was a note saying that I was negative for DQ2 and DQ8 and therefore did NOT have Celiac. My son has double DQ3 subtype 7, so I know I have at least one copy of that. All 4 of my children were tested (two had symptoms) and all came back negative on the whole Celiac panel. The 2 with symptoms went gluten-free anyway and have had great... -
ARCHIVED Celiac 4x Higher In Ibs Patients

I was diagnosed with IBS in college. (At first they called it "colitis", then decided it was IBS.) All my symptoms went away on the gluten-free diet. But I don't have Celiac, because I don't have the right genes. I wonder how many other people are like me - severely gluten intolerant, but not Celiac, and misdiagnosed with IBS. -

The cocoa isn't really important at all. I just like the darker look of the bread, since I was a "whole wheat and honey" type person before going gluten-free. You can easily leave it out. -

Here's the recipe. I didn't copy the name of the person who originally posted it, so I can't give proper credit. I think I changed a few things from the original, so this is pretty much how I made them. I made some into squares, with the fork marks to make them look as close to "real" as possible, and some into circles. The circles were easier to make... -
ARCHIVED Review Of: Valencia Orange Cake From Starbucks

Thanks Patti! I obviously missed reading a couple of posts. Wow, now I'm excited! My two gluten-free kids will be thrilled too. -
ARCHIVED Review Of: Valencia Orange Cake From Starbucks

Does the wrapper have the ingredient list? I'm sure that it's hoping too much that they are also dairy free. I'm a teacher and often get Starbuck's gift cards as thank you gifts and such. I don't like coffee, so I've never used a penny of any of the cards (I regift them or let my kids use them for hot cocoa). It would be nice to actually get to use a... -

I'm sorry I don't know of a book for you. (Although my daughter has toyed with the idea of writing one for a community service project for school.) I have a recipe for gluten-free graham crackers that turned out pretty well. I think I got it from this website, maybe on a thread about 1-1/2 years ago. If I can find it, would you like it? -
ARCHIVED Ulcerative Colitis, Psoriatic Arthritis, Hashimoto's- What Do I Eat?
lonewolf replied to healthseeker's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I would suggest eliminating soy and dairy. Soy is NOT good for your thyroid and dairy often exacerbates arthritis. Avoiding nightshades can be helpful too, if you don't get relief from gluten-free, soy free and dairy free. I used to have psoriatic arthritis - very badly. I refused the Methotrexate and Plaquinil that the doc wanted me to take and changed... -
When I crave fresh baked yeast bread I buy a bag of Pamela's Amazing Gluten Free Bread Mix. Often, instead of making a loaf, I'll make it in 22 muffin tins (24 makes them a tad too small) and have rolls. I've done this several times for holidays and served them to gluten eating people. They taste great, especially hot out of the oven. The loaf of bread...

Sorry, but I don't think that a regular yeast bread recipe will work. I tried for years and finally gave up. Quick breads, cakes and cookies will work by substituting the flour, but not yeast breads. You have to use a special gluten-free recipe. Did you try any of the suggestions on your other thread? Here, I copied this from the other thread so...

ARCHIVED Dinner Roll Recipe?

Here is an easier version of the Pao de Queijo. I use this for rolls, sandwich rolls and pizza crust. (I add a bit more olive oil for pizza crust.) Brazilian Cheese Rolls 1-1/3 C Tapioca Flour 1-1/3 C grated cheese (or 1 C Sheep Milk Romano) 3 Eggs 2-4 tsp. Milk (or rice milk) 2 tsp. Olive oil 2 tsp.baking powder (maybe? I don't know how much... -
ARCHIVED What Else Can I Eliminate? I Still Don't Feel Better.
lonewolf replied to B R I A N A's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If you really don't want to eat meat, what about something like eggs? Are you committed to a vegan diet? Vegetarian might be easier - you could try goat or sheep milk cheeses to. Some people can handle those even if they can't do cow dairy. I agree that soy could be your problem (it's horrible for me) and that you might not be getting enough protein... -

I'm so glad that all of you are having success with this! I don't know how many times I've been in a hurry and made a quick "bun" and eaten it for breakfast. It has protein and fiber and takes no time at all to whip up. Keep sharing your experiments too! -
ARCHIVED Rheumatoid Arthritis In 25 Year Old Celiac Female
lonewolf replied to Peter15's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
So sorry that you haven't gotten any relief. This might sound weird, but I'm remembering that I did this at first when I wasn't really sure if food was the problem with my arthritis. No doctor told me to do this, it was just my own idea. I fasted for 36 hours - water only, to see if I would feel any better. I stopped eating after dinner one night, drank... -

It took about 8-9 months to be pain free without Advil. I do understand how busy it gets with little kids! Mine are now 17, 15, 14 and 11 and the first 3 were 3 under 3-1/2, so I know it can be hard. The soy free thing really might help you though. -

Has your intake of soy or dairy increased? These are just as bad as gluten for some people who have arthritis. Nightshades are also problematic for some with arthritis. I have to be gluten-free, dairy free and soy free in order to keep the arthritis (that once had me basically crippled) away. -
ARCHIVED Anyone With Rheumatoid Arthritis?

I had the testing done through my naturopath. A good friend just had the same type of testing done through her regular MD though. Jestgar is right though - there is some amount of unreliability and the test is a good starting point. For me, however, the foods that came up positive were right on - I don't think there were any false positives. Over time... -
ARCHIVED Anyone With Rheumatoid Arthritis?
lonewolf replied to kimis's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I had a blood test done for delayed food allergies (an ELISA panel) several years ago. Gluten, dairy, soy, eggs, peanuts and beans all came out high, along with a few other things. After a couple of days off soy I had some soy milk and had a huge reaction - joint pain and swelling almost immediately. That was enough confirmation to me that the soy was... -

I eat quite well! gluten-free is easy now. Dairy free is hard because I love pizza. I do "cheat" with butter and some goat cheese occasionally. Soy free is hard and I'm not super strict about it. I can handle soy lecithin and small amounts of soybean oil. I avoid anything with soy protein and soy sauce and stuff that's obvious. I can do eggs, but I... -

I had Psoriatic Arthritis, which is almost exactly the same as RA. Soy and dairy are almost as bad on my joints as gluten. I don't even consider myself to have PA anymore because I do so well gluten-free, soy free and dairy free. Gluten free is great, but it doesn't cure everything. -
