ARCHIVED Most Important Vitamins To Watch Or Supplement For CoeliacsRiceGuy replied to UnhappyCoeliac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease While Celiac might make you prone to be deficient in many things, the ones which seem to be most often deficient are the B vitamins, vitamin D, magnesium, iron, and calcium. It is my impression that potassium and zinc might be a bit higher on the list than amongst the general population. After these, it seems practically any nutrient could be deficient, and...

ARCHIVED Vitamin B12 Tablets Hurt!RiceGuy replied to S-J-L's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease I'm guessing mushroom was referring to those with Pernicious Anemia. In those cases, a sublingual (or shots) becomes necessary.

ARCHIVED Vitamin B12 Tablets Hurt!RiceGuy replied to S-J-L's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease Well, since B12 is a vital, necessary nutrient, I have my doubts that anyone would be allergic to it, or any other essential nutrient for that matter. The liver normally processes B12 from food into methylcobalamin (though not all of it). I'd have to believe that anyone allergic to it would have serious problems (or die) even before being born. From Open...

ARCHIVED Food Poisoning Or Glutened?RiceGuy replied to foodiegurl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I think there's a recent thread about some wines being a problem. If it happened to me, I'd be thinking it was either the vinegar, cheese, or the wine. Here's a thread about balsamic vinegar: https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/index.php?showtopic=18566

ARCHIVED Making Tahini Or Nut/seed ButtersRiceGuy replied to RiceGuy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips Thanks for the replies! Just an update: After looking around, and some considerations, I concluded that a hand blender would be the most versatile, and it appeared that the chances were good that it'd work for seed butters. I picked out a hand blender based on reviews. I love it! It does indeed work for making tahini, plus oodles more stuff I've been...

The kinds of pains and nail problems you describe are often indicative of nutrient deficiencies. If it were me, I'd start taking a sublingual methylcobalamin (active form of B12), at least 3mg per day, B-complex, vitamin D3, vitamins A and E, magnesium, and probably zinc. Since there is no known level of overdose for B12, take as much as you want/need without...

ARCHIVED Question About Raw HoneyRiceGuy replied to julirama723's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications My thought on the honey is that I wouldn't eat it. Honey is basically from pollen, and pollen does travel through the air. In fact, I've read that farmers have tremendous difficulty keeping their fields producing the specific varieties of grains they grow, because of pollen drifting in from other fields in the area. This seems especially true for non-GMO...

ARCHIVED Do I Have Candida OvergrowthRiceGuy replied to kpm2319's topic in Related Issues & Disorders In addition to Threelac, there are a number of other products you may wish to consider. There's Florastor, Theralac, caprylic acid, and products which contain a bunch of things in combination, including Pau D'Arco, Black Walnut, Oregano Oil, Biotin, and Caprylic Acid. I chose caprylic acid capsules, which worked very well. I think it took around two months...

ARCHIVED Grinding Your OwnRiceGuy replied to quietmorning01's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips Thank you for this great review! I looked into grinding my own flour, but I couldn't find the grains and beans at a low enough price to make it worth it. Last I calculated, making gluten-free breads is still cheaper than buying whole wheat bread at the supermarket. Although, it would sure be nice to get gluten-free flours as cheap as wheat flours. Can...

ARCHIVED Df Cream Cheese FrostingRiceGuy replied to Chrissyb's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips The first thing that comes to mind is to add coconut flour, since it soaks up a lot of liquid. However, I think I'd also probably not add any margarine, as that will remain soft unless kept very cold. So I guess I'd try that first, and if it needs the extra stiffness, then add the coconut.

ARCHIVED Do I Have Candida OvergrowthRiceGuy replied to kpm2319's topic in Related Issues & Disorders How are your fingernails? Although you may have a yeast overgrowth, I'd highly recommend a sublingual methylcobalamin (active form of vitamin B12), B-complex, vitamin D3, and probably some mineral supplements, including magnesium, potassium, and zinc. Some omega-3s should also be helpful.

Yes, there have been long discussions on this board about getting glutened by a kiss. It does indeed happen, and it is a valid concern which you must discuss with your husband. He needs to understand the importance of brushing/gargling, and/or whatever other steps to take. Searching the board for it should provide you with some threads to read through.

ARCHIVED Tinkyada + Nomato = Pinkyada?RiceGuy replied to RiceGuy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips Thanks everyone. I was also thinking it was the beets. Interestingly, the color of the carrots showed through slightly after the sauce was cooked. So I added more beets, but didn't have time to cook it again. Perhaps if I had, it may have reduced the color bleeding into the pasta. I actually put some soft tofu, shredded coconut, lecithin, and water through...

ARCHIVED Help My Cake Has Fallen And It Can't UpRiceGuy replied to Chrissyb's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips My first thought is that the acid from the strawberries made the baking powder fizzle out too early. Although I haven't looked into high altitude baking, since there's less air pressure, I suppose the CO2 gas from the leavening might have a greater propensity to escape early. Especially if the batter is thin. So I think I'd make the batter a bit thicker....

ARCHIVED Phosphorus Too HighRiceGuy replied to wowzer's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease Did a quick search, and found references to something called Hyperphosphatemia: Open Original Shared Link Interestingly, it appears that magnesium deficiency can be a cause, which makes sense considering how Celiac tends to cause deficiencies in various things, magnesium being one of the more common ones. Let us know what you find out!

There has been some debate whether gluten can cause a reaction just sitting on the skin. However, some do report skin reactions, so it appears clear to me. The thing about lotions, soaps and shampoos, makeup, etc, is that it's nearly impossible to avoid getting some ingested. For instance, you use a soap or lotion on your hands, then eat a sandwich, crackers...

ARCHIVED Trying Out Gluten FreeRiceGuy replied to beanpot's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms For those looking for more fiber, besides amaranth, there's Kasha (roasted buckwheat), teff, and of course coconut. Ordinary green pea soup is actually pretty high in fiber too. Aside from the fiber, many find supplementing magnesium very helpful. It is nature's stool softener.

ARCHIVED Sprueberg-- A Gluten Free CityRiceGuy replied to Lisa16's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff  Yes, adult lengths without the thunder-thighs. Malls without intoxicating perfume clouds. Vendors with large, soft, chewy gluten-free pretzels. All buildings are constructed only with gluten-free materials.

ARCHIVED Vitamin B12 Tablets Hurt!RiceGuy replied to S-J-L's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease That's correct, mushroom. Although it's possible to absorb B12 from the pills that you swallow, the sublingual is always a better bet. After all, if you're deficient, that means your absorption isn't where it should be. Except possibly in the case of someone on a vegan diet, who must supplement anyway. S_J_L: What was the brand? If you have a link, post...

ARCHIVED Supplement Advice?RiceGuy replied to ms-gates's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease Many on this board seem to benefit from vitamin B12, B-complex, magnesium, vitamin D3, calcium, iron, and multivitamins in general. Most brands are not all that good, including flintstone's. I'm sure you can do much better with quality supplements. You'll likely get many recommendations, but what I look for is the right forms of the various nutrients under...

Hi everyone. I had been planning to make gluten-free, dairy-free, nightshade-free lasagna (yes, lasagna, without any of the traditional main ingredients), and finally got around to it a few days ago. I had already come up with a dairy-free "ricotta cheese" recipe, and figured I'd mimic the tomato-free sauce called Open Original Shared Link. The sauce...

I've actually been planning to try mesquite flour soon, so I'm glad this thread has been started. It is supposed to smell and taste very good, but I've yet to read a description of the aroma or flavor. For those whom have tried it, what does it smell and taste like?

ARCHIVED Dh Celiac, I Maybe Milk Intolerant, Help!RiceGuy replied to mindwiped's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut Mindwiped: So glad you're doing better with the migraines! I know how rough it can be, and I also know how others who don't get headaches don't seem to understand just how horrid and painful it is. Given the remaining symptoms you've mentioned, I wonder if perhaps a gluten-free diet would now produce positive results. I mean, if you tried gluten-free but...

My life never really revolved around food, so although it might be nice to be able to enjoy certain things from time to time, I enjoy my better health far more than any food. What's funny, is that I used to "love" pasta. I ate tons of the stuff. That was something I really really didn't want to give up. So when I finally got to try Tinkyada, I was soooo...

ARCHIVED Help Please - Thoughts SuggestionsRiceGuy replied to kbalman's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs Actually not. Two weeks just isn't long enough, even for an adult. Since children under six are so much more difficult to correctly diagnose, I'd think the tests will almost certainly come back negative. I honestly doubt the current tests are accurate enough to depend on for small children. As for your son not recovering completely, perhaps it's because...
