  1. do you ever dream you are eating those things? In the dream you know you are not supposed to and it is so good but even in the dream you can't pretend you don't have celiac disease. What's up with that? Can't even enjoy apple pie in your dreams!
  2. Yea for chestnuts!!! They taste like sugar cookies to me!
  3. potato vodka. My sister and I keep a bottle between the two of us just for that. You don't even really get to buzzed because your body is not absorbing anything. Let me know if this works for you. It has been a life saver for us. Chopin and Luskaswa are both potatoe brands. You can get the small 2 oz bottles and they will usually do the trick. It is better...
  4. Suzn, I know exactly how you feel. I was an avid runner. How could i run without my pre-race pasta ritual? It was such a way of life for me that right before I started getting sick I had decided master the art of bread making! I can say you will get past this period; I don't mean to sound pretentious but you actually kind of look down at the rest of the civilized...

Old Italian, bring your own bottle place. Houstons on Popular is pretty good. You have to be careful in the south, the love to bread and fry everything! The very best place to be sure...

    ARCHIVED Dr.'s Can Kill

Kim, sorry it is taking me so long to get back to you. It is 3:30 a.m. I have been helping friends move. I will send you some food ideas and ideas on how to manage the sugar It is not easy but once you conquere it, no, you don't have cravings. The diet becomes a whole new experince to eating. There is an entire world of food out there that most...
  8. Heather, I have found that not eating is very effective. It is a little hard but works. Another thing I do for my stomach if it is swollen and bloated is to drink a little potatoe vodka. It kind of acts as a sterilizer, according to my sisters doctor, and kills the infection. The sooner after being glutened the better. This works for me and my sister...
  9. and what is the cheapest and easiest thing to grow besides beans? Wheat. Promote more, sell more, grow more. I know this because ironically I grew up running thru wheat feilds! p.p.

    ARCHIVED Dr.'s Can Kill

  11. God I remember those. They were so bad I would have my kids, who were really small then, just lay on top of me Until they passed. They usually started in the car on the way home from work. Support and mind over matter. Surrounding yourself with things that make you feel warm and secure. Sometimes I would call a friend and just talk it away. I liked to...

    ARCHIVED Dr.'s Can Kill

Kim, I still experience depression when I am sick. I think that JenVan is right. There are chemical imbalances and also the constant ups and downs of being sick. Being completly malnourished has got to have some serious effects also. Now that I am gluten free I have the greatest outlook on life despite how difficult mine has been. One of the other...
  13. Hi SMJohn, I had a celiac moment and accidently added to your message. I apologize for confusing anyone. I was also in the middle of getting the kid off to school. (to much multi-tasking) My original message: If you want to start with something you are more familiar with; start with meat, fruits and veggies. I don't even bother with the boxed gluten...

    ARCHIVED Dr.'s Can Kill

You are probably right. I had an Aunt who commited a horrible suicide with her kids in the next room. One of her daughters has been diagnosed as bipolar. It is probably as simple as a chemical imbalance due from this illiness. I also remember my aunt always looking like she was pregnant even although she wasn't. It is very sad. It is even sadder that...

    ARCHIVED Dr.'s Can Kill

I am doing much bettter now. It has been about 4 years since I was on the drug. I still have a ways to go. Even being sick was managable. In fact it took three years before they convinced me that the drug would work. I guess I was to the point that I would try anything. It wasn't worth it. I was maintaining my life even with this mysterious illiness...

    ARCHIVED Dr.'s Can Kill

I stopped going to Dr.'s when they put me on an anitdepressant (effexor)which is harder to get off of than pasta and I became suicidal! Anyone eles have this experience?
  17. Celiac can lay dormant until something traumatic occurs. I didn't start getting sick until I went thru my divorce. Can't your Dr. go to bat for you? I would think that was your right. And if the jurors don't know about it they will now and they need to know. Good Luck!
  18. the prices will go down as the demand goes up. Did you know that if you keep accurate records of you food costs you can claim them on your taxes? Hope that helps.
  19. You will be come infamous chef! It is now one of my greatest hobbies and the only way I was able to convince my brother in-law that I was not so bad. (he was afraid I didn't have domestic bone in my body and it would rub off on my sister.) I wouldn't eat any other way even if I didn't have celiac. I have found that we are probably ahead of the rest...
  20. This sounds insane; but my sister and I have found that drinking a little potatoe vodka (there is a inexpensive one called luksusowa or expensive Chopin.) speeds up the process. According to my sisters Dr. it is kills the infection that has started. She compared it to how the soldiers used alcohol to kill infection in wounds. It doesn't take to much...
  21. I know exactly how you feel although I was going thru my divorce when I started getting sick. I had a boyfriend once call me silly celiac right before he forced a kiss on me when I asked him not to because he was drinking a beer. (his dr. has since diagnosed him with a heart condition and told him to go on the same diet that I am.) The next day...
  22. Hi Mandi, my hair falling out was one of the first symptoms I had when I started getting sick. It is definitly hormonal and due to malnutrition & stress. My hair had been long (to my hips) and silky. Now that I am better it is back again. I think that sugar also had an effect on it. Of course I don't eat foods with gluten but if I eat sugar...
