  1. So sorry to hear this it must be so hard and upsetting to worry for your son. I was diagnosed 1.5 years ago and i can tell you that as hard as it may be, try not to worry. It takes a while to overcome the gluten "withdrawal" and the symptoms do not just go away that quick. It will take at least a few weeks maybe longer for things to turn positive, but they...
  2. Take all of the above advice, new utensils and learning what you need to change and how. My first month of just figuring out what the he'll I could eat and not eat was stressful let alone everything else. After a month your body should start to feel better, stools better, and your mind less stressed because you will then know much more than you do currently...
  3. Yes keep testing and only see a doctor you are comfortable with. You may not have celiac, many assume they do but you need to keep testing in order to find out for sure. You may be intolerant vs celiac or something else altogether. Dietician a great idea mentioned above. Hang in there and you'll get it all figured out.
  4. It ain't easy that's for sure! They way I look at is that non one truly gets it unless they have celiac and have spent the required time researching to understand it. We can't expect others to get it, kinda like a cancer survivor can't expect someone who's never had cancer to get it. The good thing is that your family generally sounds supportive. Really...
  5. So sorry to hear about this. How tough for a little one to have to go through this as well as you. The good thing is that you are doing the right thing having by a biopsy done, but you also need the celiac blood panel done as both together are required for diagnosis. It could be several different causes but what you are describing may very well be celiac...
  6. It's always best to remind ourselves that nobody ever knows anything about celiac or gi until they actually get it, so we can't blame others for not being experts on it. I don't eat out much due to having celiac but when I do I simply tell them that while I would love to have regular food or a beer, I simply can't as it will make me sick, and it's not an...
  7. Agree with the above. TELL your doctor the blood panel you want done since you are the one paying for it. If it comes back positive then get a biopsy to see if it actually celiac or intolerance. If your doctor doesn't want to do it then tell him you're getting another doctor and go see one.
  8. Your worrying is just making things worse and stress alone can cause upset stomach. get some bland food in you to start, your body needs food. If you have no other food issues eat some rice, chicken, vegetables, yogurt, peanut butter on gluten-free toast etc... You're stomach will settle soon try not to worry too much. Stay away from junk and eat fresh healthy...
  9. Yes you can feel depressed when glutened. Glad you figured out that cc was the issue. Keep your chin up you are in the right track to feeling better all the time!
  10. Don't self diagnose, get to a doctor as you could be suffering from any number of conditions. Hope things get better for you soon!
  11. Don't sweat it Jenny, chalk it up to a learning experience...we all have them. Sounds like you're doing well overall with what is a huge life change, so don't let one glutening get you down. Being celiac sucks there's no way to sugarcoat it. However think of it this way, eating crap from chick fil a is bad for your body anyways, so just remember that the...
  12. Show them information from this site that says you should have seperate cooking utensils. Don't need anything fancy we got mine from the dollar store and they are the same colour which helps from someone using the wrong ones. Ask them to read the info. Your parents love you but they just don't have the knowledge yet. Help them learn. If that doesn't work...
  13. It's not illegal in the US or Canada for employers to have pre-employment medicals but it is illegal for them to ask if you have a disability prior to a job offer. They can only rescind an offer, which must be made prior to the medical by the way, if there is an issue that can't be accommodated to the point of undue hardship for the employer that surfaces...
  14. You need to see your doc and ask for a celiac blood test to at least determine if it might be celiac, if positive then biopsy can confirm. You can't assume you are celiac as most people aren't. Going gluten-free does mean that folks lose weight unless they were previously eating unhealthy and due to celiac are now eating healthy. The reverse can happen since...
  15. I don't think you have anything to worry about if no genetic markers. Maybe you eat so healthy he needs to eat a bit less healthy since kids need some fat as they burn calories like crazy. Losen up the diet a bit. You can also order at home celiac testing kits that I are far cheaper and can give you reliable results such as celiasure by gluten pro. This...
  16. As long not as ping....darn autotype
  17. I'm sure there isn't a single celiac who has made a mistake or ingested gluten without even knowing it at the time. It happens. Don't stress about it, an occasional glutening is to be expected and isn't going to harm you all that much in the grand scheme of things as ping as it isn't frequent. Just focus on moving forward you are obviously doing a great job...
  18. Keep eating gluten until you have a biopsy or it will impact the results. Don't worry about the past 4 days and don't bother trying to figure out the results. Talk to your gi next week and go from there. Biopsy will confirm and also assess extent of "damage" which is good to know. It makes things much more clear once you have that done. Hang in there!
  19. Yes it's possible, but maybe it wasn't and your stomach just reacted to you eating the whole bag! I'm a silent celiac but when I went gluten-free I could tell there where a couple times I must've been glutened based on getting brain fog for a couple days. Well done being strict and fully healed so fast, I'm hoping for the same as I'm only 4 months post...
  20. Fellow Canadian! Have you tried contacting the doctor that did your biopsy for help? They might be able to assist you to see someone for allergy testing or at least offer insight. If not perhaps time to visit another doctor, not all doctors are good doctors and if yours isn't helping them get a second opinion. It's free
  21. I'm recently diagnosed a few months ago. Celiac became active 1-2 years prior to that because I became anemic which is how it was eventually figured out. I was always active but started feeling tired etc from the anemia. After only two months of being gluten-free my iron is back to normal range and I feel perfectly fine, back to training again no problems...
  22. It's normal to have ups and downs for first few months, mine took a couple. Also just make sure you aren't getting cross contaminated somehow as that could be causing issues if you aren't completely gluten-free. Hang in there you'll be fine!
  23. Well it clarified my situation and i will continue them as my doctor recommends. I prefer to go through whatever I can to get as much info as possible. Old school or not I know what I have and I know how my recovery is going. Fortunately anemia is gone and vitamin levels back up so its all good. Thanks for the info though.
  24. Biopsy is the only method to diagnose celiac. If you are in fact celiac Follow ups are recommended because thats the only way to know if you are healing sufficiently inside. In my case since I don't get the common symptoms I will need it to ensure I'm gluten free "enough" or if the healing is delayed due to possible cross contamination issues. To me it's...
  25. Typo on word large above, darn auto type....
