  1. Yes i am "lucky" if there is such a thing with celiac lol. Not sure where you live but the advantage of getting properly diagnosed is that you will need follow up biopsys to ensure that you are healing inside if in fact you are celiac vs just being intolerant. It's important to know if you are healing sufficiently large inside. I would get the biopsy so...
  2. Fortunately for me my celiac was discovered indirectly and I didn't suffer from symptoms like most celiacs with the exception of becoming anemic. Perhaps ask the doctor how much gluten you need to consume so you can try to keep it to a minimum without jeopardizing the test results. Just try to remember that it's temporary and you'll manage your way through...
  3. The fact is everyone has different symptoms, so yes you could react differently to different sources. Either way you'll need to eliminate all sources of gluten even if you don't have any symptoms from some things. I never used to have any symptoms from any sources prior to being diagnosed until I became anemic and it was discovered that way. I'm fortunate...
  4. It might so dont jeopardize everything you've done so far when you are so close. Maybe reduce a little but don't stop. Once you have biopsy you can immediately go gluten-free and you'll feel better in no time. Hang in there you can do this!!!
  5. It might not be cross contamination so don't worry too much yet if you know you've been careful. When I went gluten-free about three weeks in I started getting brain fog for no reason I could determine. After a couple more weeks it went away and I hadn't changed a thing. The body takes a while to go through gluten withdrawal and I believe that's what i had...
  6. Do a little Researchand you'll find what is safe for cocktails and as long as you stick to liquor and soda pop you're generally ok since distillation removes gluten even from wheat based drinks like whiskey. For wine, is it all wine that that gives you a headache or only red? I've always gotten headaches from red wine before i was celiac. Red wine is known...
  7. I'm not very familiar with how the "scores" work other than a celiac having high numbers. I have celiac. Is it possible that your child has intolerance instead of celiac ? Not sure if intolerant folks have similar blood test results or not. Perhaps that's what it is and if so, that's much better than having celiac!
  8. Your dad is what all dads and parents should be. Tell him we think hes a great dad! You'll be ok and get through this don't worry. We are also here to support you!
  9. Prior to your biopsy spend time figuring out how you need to change your diet and reorganize your kitchen etc. The more you learn about what you need to and actually figuring out what to buy instead of what you currently eat, the easier it gets. Preparation and answers to what you need to do will help you feel less anxious. All of us celiacs go through a...
  10. 95 % of the 1 in 130 people in the world who have celiac, don't know they have it. So you could easily have it regardless of what the "known" family history is. Just get tested and that will let you know. Better to be safe and don't be afraid to tell your doctor what you need done because most doctors don't know anything about celiac.
  11. The above advice is best. Just say it and do what you need to do to stay safe. And for goodness sakes don't worry about offending anyone, it's your health not theirs and as long as you are polite and say how much you would love to try their food but simply can't, that's all you can and need to do. Everyone will be done eating soon enough and then you can...
  12. You're doing the right thing reaching out and asking advice. This forum is great for that. I'll keep it simple, tell your dad that you've contacted people who are celiac, and that in order to ensure your health isn't at risk ask him to take you to a doctor for celiac blood test. Don't ask your mom go to your dad on it and tell him how it upsets you that your...
  13. Yup it sucks. I found the worst thing was the loss of convenience to go out and eat without having to screen everyone and everywhere you you go to determine if it's safe. Pizza is basically ruled out completely since they have flour in the air. Beer....*sniff*... I miss it although there's a couple decent gluten-free ones. Omission lager is the best I've...
  14. Must not be easy. Perhaps the silver lining is that you can think of it as a screening process. Someone who truly cares for you will not try to brush it off, they will ask about it and will want to learn. You have lots of life ahead of you and things will be ok, might not seem it right now but life has a way of working things out most of the time. Same with...
  15. Use the at home test kits from glutenpro which is from Canada. They work and will give you some answers to help you figure out if you have celiac or not and you don't need to go through a dr to get them even in the US. With value of US dollar is pretty cheap to do the genetic test and the gluten test.
  16. I'm no expert on the bloodwork but you can also try the at home genetic test to find out for sure if your girl even has the gene that is required to even develop celiac. That way you find out if you even need to bother with blood tests. No gene no Celiac potential. It's from glutenpro and the test is genesure. It's from Canada and it works. A little pricy...
  17. How you are feeling is perfectly normal Erin we've all been there. I am new to this lifestyle as well and can tell you that my first several weeks felt horrible, stressful, overwhelming. I found that by researching as much as I could so I could plan for the change helped a lot before I actually went gluten-free. Designate part of the kitchen counter to your...
  18. Hi Mel, just wait the 2 weeks to find out the results of the biopsy, it will let you know if you have celiac or not. If you do the good news is you CAN manage it. Seems overwhelming at first but after you learn what you need to know and make the adjustments you'll be fine. I was recently diagnosed and was totally stressed about how much you need to change...
