  1. one of my twins is really thin (actually they both are but one is 15-20 lbs heavier than the other) anyway, the thinnest one quite often gets blue lips and blue hands, but it is usually when she is cold---even if the rest of us aren't cold. christine
  2. are all jennie-o hot dogs safe, or only certain ones? the stores around here carry them and they are usually less expensive! christine
  3. as far as foods that are gluten free, but processed in a facility that processes gluten-----do any of you use these products? i would imagine that sometimes the products are contaminated and sometimes they are fine. i would also think that the type of product it is would make a difference in how easily it would or would not get cross contaminated. ( i would...
  4. i have a bean recipe that my family loves, it's just a matter of making sure i buy the gluten versions of everything in it----does anyone know about liquid smoke---this is what makes the recipe so good. i have figaro brand hickory lidquid smoke and barbeque marinade. the 2 suspicious ingredients are caramel color and spices. some info i got from the...
  5. liz, if i make lasagna noodles, do i cook them first, or can i just lay them over the meat and sauce since they are already so pliable? if i didn't cook them first, would i add extra liquid like i would with regular uncooked (dry) noodles? christine
  6. lonewolf----it is from "the gluten-free gourmet bakes bread"----the basic featherlight rice bread, but i does have eggs in it. can you use in of the liquid egg reaplacers? luvs2eat-----what did you mean by finding it on day 2 or 3? this bread was soft and moist inside. christine
  7. what can you tell me about different types of rice. i didn't realize there were so many different kinds. is there any particular rice that will work better for me to grind into flour? christine
  8. just wondering if anyone has any tips for making homemade noodles. is there a certain flour mix that works better than another, or tastes better? could i make home made lasagna noodles? christine
  9. my daughter made some home made bread last night using bette hagman's featherlight mix. it was so good, i could hardly believe it. it looked and tasted just like regular wheat bread. it was a shorter loaf, and the crust was a little crispier, but besides that there was very little difference. this probably sounds strange, but knowing that bread like that...
  10. i have 3 children with celiac. two of them have had biopsies, one was normal, the other showed no damage, but she did have raised lymphocites in only one area. all three girls had positive blood tests. christine
  11. having this board to come to is so helpful----you all have reminded me of things i was forgetting. potatoes, for instance. i live in idaho. my husband has done tires for the farmers for years. we get FREE potatoes. we do eat them alot, but can someone give me a good recipe for potato pancakes---i've never made them. we were from the south, so we grew...
  12. just wondering if any of you shop at kroger's and are familiar with their brand? we live in a small town in southern idaho (we drive 2 1/2 to 3 hours to see the ped gi) and we don't have the stores i keep hearing people refer to (trader joe's, whole foods). gluten free foods are a bit pricey, and having to mail order them adds up when you tack on shipping...
  13. our ped gi told me that gluten free is a healthy diet and that they use it for other conditions also (irritable bowel, for example) he is having me put all of my blood tested positive children on the diet, even though one of them has not had a biopsy, one had a negative biopsy, and the other had an iffy biopsy. christine
  14. i think i've probably already asked this once (i have a bad memory). i am really concerned about how i am going to afford to feed my children. i always thought bread was a way to make the meal go further. i have 8 children at home, (3 with celiac). i feel like i have to make the kitchen gluten free because they are so messy when they eat---you notice...
  15. becky, before we were even suspecting celiac in our kids, one of my twins had an endo with biopsies because she also has reflux. her intestines were fine (no damage, no inflamation) but her esophagus was covered with white patches. the ped gi told me it was either food allergies or a fungal infection. it turned out she had esophageal thrush. christine
  16. tonight it was rosarita brand enchilada sauce---but i saw on the label that it is from con-agra foods. they are supposed to say if they have wheat----hopefully the spices in it were ok. now i have seen some other brands that people have said are safe----i'm not loyal to, nor do i prefer any certain brand, so i can find something else---i was just in a hurry...
  17. when you say his blood tests came back positive, are meaning positive that his antibodies are raised, or just positive that he has the gene? just having the gene itself does not mean he will get celiac. christine
  18. my children seem to be fairly symptom-free, or at least they did not have what are considered the "normal" symptoms of celiac. i am not sure how we will be able to tell how good of a job we are doing at staying gluten-free. my 10 yr old has had stomach aches over the last few years---but not bad and only periodically. she does, however, complain alot...
  19. my 3 girls have just been dignoxed as celiac, based mostly on blood tests. we are pretty fortunate in that we have a great ped gi that seems to be really "up" on his stuff. my twins both had biopsies, neither had any damage, but one had raised lymphocites. when we discovered that 3 of my children all had positive blood tests, he didn't even suggest doing...
  20. i read alot of labels that seem safe, except for the word "spices". is this safe? christine
  21. i got tTG results from our doc today. he told me normal is less than .7 kassie was 18.7, and molly was 22.8. he couldn't remember tianna's, but he said it was in the same neighborhood has the other 2 girls. i asked about there being no damage in the biopsies, but he said that they probably do have damage. the damage can be spotty, and if you miss it...
  22. celiac3270-----here is my new address kevheiner@msn.com please send me your list. thank you christine
  23. i could use the list too---if you don't mind. christine kevieb@pmt.org if this comes back to you, let me know. we have changed carriers, but i'm not sure if my e-mail changed----i know that sounds dumb, but i'm pretty computer illiterate here. christine
  24. please send that list my way, too! my e-mail is kevieb@pmt.org----but that is only for today, after tomorrow i will have a new e-mail, as i am changing servers and getting DSL yeah!!!! christine
  25. brooke---i'm glad you asked these questions-------i need to know them, too. so far, we have 3 celiac children and are waiting on the test results from 3 more and my husband. it has been less than a week that we have been told to go gluten free. christine
