  1. Did any of your children have problems with bedwetting...long after being potty trained??
  2. Thanks for clearing that up for me...that is what I thought was the deal. my husband and I have both been tested and are waiting our results...hopefully this week. DO you know why there isn't a better testing method since it seems (to me) that what they have (especially for kids--since that's all I know about) is so unreliable?? We have 3 other boys that...
  3. I am going to ask what my be dumb questions...but I am going to ask them anyway!! Our son has the DQ2 marker. Would that mean that one of us(his parents) have the gene also or are we be just carriers?? My thinking is this: He is also a carrier for the cystic fibrosis gene...meaning his dad or I are also carriers...so does the same hold true in...
  4. I am wondering what other's do inthe kitchen when it comes to the pots, pans, and utensils?? Do you use separate everything or not?? Do you use cast iron?? If not why? I read recently in the last publication the GIG Newsletter that cast iron was ok. We have only been doing this since January and I am still trying to figure out what is advice and...
  5. I tried talking to our 6 year old about making diet changes like his younger brother to see "if we all don't feel better"...and it went over like a lead balloon!! He really likes a lot of Cooper's foods, but Riley LOVES his bread...all the time, hot dog buns for a snack etc...So I am not sure how we are going to get this done on our end. I know there is...
  6. I am SO glad that you posted!! I have 6 year old who shows no GI symptoms either..but he also has major anxiety issues. He has "transient tics" which aren't actually Tourette's but they mimic it. The tics have waxed and wained over the past 2 years and we are seeing them again. He worries about all kinds of things too. This past week, I had an "aha...
  7. I was so glad to see this posted. I was just in the kitchen cleaning and wondering if we are doing enough in the "avoiding cc" area. Our toaster over sits in the corner and hasn't even been opened since our son's dx. Mainly beacuse we are in such a SMALL house right now until our new one is finished. I deam of the day that I have room to prepare ANYTHING...
  8. Are there any of you who's children have transient tics (like Tourette's) that are made worse by gluten?? Our oldest son is showing some transient tics and I am starting to wonder if HE has celiac...hmmmm?? He also has lots of anxiety. What about stuttering/language delays??(this IS the celiac child) Thanks in advance.....
  9. We have 4 kids 6 and under. The best way for us was to put red dot stickers on all the "NO" foods and the we drew a yucky face on it. On the gluten-free foods we put green dot stickers with smiley faces on it. (Bought at the office supply area in Walmart). It has been a life saver for the boys and Cooper knows what he can and can't have and doesn't have to...
  10. I am wondering how many of you who have or have children who are Celiacs have asked or had other allergy testing done. We go back to our AWESOME GI doc in July and I am wondering if we should persue it. I have noticed, after pouring over these posts, that A LOT of people seem to have allergies in addition to the celiac. Am I being too cautious??
  11. Jessica... that book board thing would be a great idea!!!
  12. A few weeks ago,we bought the Bette Hagman cookbook..Gluten free desserts. Our gluten-free 3 year old has been living with it!! He sleeps with it, takes it out to play and just plain carries it around. The poor book looks like it has been put through the ringer. He loves it and is so proud to have a "Food book" that is his. So to Ms. Hagman...you are...
  13. Thanks to everyone who put in ther 2 cents worth!! We made it and the boys LOVED it -and asked for more!! That is all the proof we need! I am also putting the Kraft cheese in a can on my list...the boys love Mac & cheese, but they just can't get into the Annie's...so we will give that a try...thanks for the ideas!!
  14. Thanks...my kids are kind of finiky when it comes to pasta and I just hate to make a batch of something and then they all turn their noses up at it!! Ihave also found a good alfredo sauce recipe (I hope!!) We will see how it goes tonight...we also make cinnimon rolls last night for the kids this morning and they were thrilled to have those again...
  15. I am trying to branch out a little in our gluten free-everyone is eating it tonight for dinner world...those of you that have been around do your kids (gluten-free and non gluten-free-ers) like the Tinkyada pasta or do you have another brand that they like?? Do you make your own sauce?? If you buy it, do you know if you can get a gluten free alfredo...
  16. Thanks for the feed back. I think we are going to have him do it now, just because he is so young. This may change when he is older. I am also wondering if Celiacs can have celiac AND a wheat allergy?? Dallas
  17. I was wondering if anyone has their child wear a medical id bracelet??
  18. Please forgive my ignorance to all this stuff, but I am still trying to get it all figured out...my question is this: Since Celiac is an inherited autoimmune disorder...does that mean at least one of the parents HAS to have it also??
  19. thanks...the shirts are cute and I did order a few!! It seems so strange, but when I think I have thought of everything...something like this happens and I am amazed at how I missed that one!! Cooper does do a good job of saying no, but I guess he thought that he said no to the cinnamon roll so why not indulge in a little fruit snacks. Oh well, we live...
  20. I am hoping that others parents can help us out here...last week on a camping trip with our church, our son was glutened...it was while he was at another families campsite and totally innocent on their part. He is 3 and really does a good job of being very careful what he takes from others. His big brother (6) felt really bad and said that he thought it...
  21. thanks..i sisn't thing it sounded like DH..but i am still trying to get my feet under me with all this and just wasn't sure what to make of this. I also was questioning the diagnosis earlier that day...guess that rash was my answer!!
  22. I am needing some help figuring out this DH thing. My son broke out in fine rash(not blisters) on his trunk and the insides of his upper arms after being glutened. The break out was about 24 hours later or so. He said it was very itchy. Is this DH or just a reaction from eating the gluten?? We have only been gluten free since January, and it was very obvious...
  23. Thanks everyone...eventually I am going to get this stuff figured out!!!
  24. Betsy My son was diagnosed at 2 1/2. Hehas been gluten free since the beginning of the year. We noticed a huge change within a week or so. He is a happier, easier and pain free child. He was origingally diagnosed with Chronic diarhea and we finally had to change doctors. It really was amazing how fast he changed. We no longer have mushy bowel movements...
  25. These are just too funny...it a good laugh and much needed ...thanks for sharing!! We ate at a mexican restaurant righ tafter our son's diagnosis and they manager was trying SO hard to be helpful and get him just what he needed...we explained that we wanted a CORN tortilla with cheese and needed it prepared on a clean surface not used for wheat products...
