  1. It is so exciting to be "trying." That is the fun part. Right now I am four months pregnant. When I look back, I would have treated my body like I was pregnant. I just figured I could have a glass of wine, because I wasn't pregnant yet. I may have had a glass when I was pregnant - I know one won't likely cause any harm, it just sticks with me in the...

ARCHIVED I Am Done With Dr's

The last gastro doctor appt I went to sounded like this: (After he has already seen me twice) Doc: "Melanie, so it looks like you have Celiac Disease." Mel: (You told me this before) - "Yes." Doc: "You know you can't eat wheat." Mel: "Yes" (And so much more) Doc: "How are you feeling." Mel: "100% better." Doc: "Ok, we'll see you...
  3. OMG!!!!!! I am jumping up and down for you right now!!!! I just had this feeling you were - Please, if you need anything, just let me know! I am now four months into this and (knowing that you are a fellow Celiac) would be happy to help in anyway I can. I couldn't keep my pregnancy a secret. I think I lasted two days and I told everyone...
  4. Hello! I actually had a similar situation happen to me (not a whole month lost though, just a few weeks). Back on January 3rd, was the last day of my period. I was trying to conceive so I was taking my temp. to document to see when I would ovulate. However, according to my temp, I never did ovulate that month, not until the next one. Here is the...
  5. I had TMJ (really, really bad) for around 7 years and had tried several types of mouth pieces to help subside the pain. I actually had to be on pain meds because it hurt so bad. I have found for me that a upper mouth piece that is very thick helps (I wear it only at night). I have also been seeing a chiropractor for once a week for the last two years....
  6. I am very glad you came to this board then. If not for anything else but the support. Everyone needs support. For a very long time I did not find it in my family either. Remember, it was my father-in-law who said those wise words? I am very happy to have them in my life (especially my husband). If you ever want to chat, I'm here for you. ANYTIME. ...
  7. I understand how hard it is to have the will power to stay on this diet. I think most of the people in the world (especially America) finds it very difficult to stay on task. On a radio talk show they did a survey - is it harder to stick to a budget or a diet? The majority of the people said that the budget was easier to stick to. But when it really...
  8. I feel kind of similar to jscorn. I am pregnant, however, I think it is the thought of not ever eating gluten for the rest of my life that wants me to be tested one more time to just be sure. It is even harder while I am pregnant to cope with being a Celiac. I am going to be tested after the baby is born to just get a second opinion. A second opinion...
  9. Other restaurants are sometimes very accomodating to people with celiac disease as long as you explain fully what the disease entails and what they need to do on their part. I tend to stick to steak salads - without the crutons and french fries. (French fries on a salad you say!!!) I really think this is a Pittsburgh thing so you might not have to worry...
  10. I live in Beaver County (Economy Borough) and wanted to say thanks for the website! I actually met a cook at Eat N' Park today who gave me his card and he is going to let me know of support group meetings that occur in Monroeville. I will travel anywhere to get help at this point!!! Once I get the info. I will pass it along to you guys. Also, Eat...
  11. I am 7 weeks pregnant right now and just had the same exact problem. I had my first appointment on February 27th and I told them that I was having cramps. They ordered a ultrasound (for today) and everything is normal. Here, I found out within that one week that my cramps were caused by constipation (lovely I know). As soon as I started taking Metamusil...
  12. Is it also safe to use while I am pregnant????? Won't hurt the baby????
  13. I actually had found gluten free prenatal vitamins at Cosco (not sure if it is a nation wide store) but is similar to Sam's Club. ALL of their supplements are gluten-free so I usually choose those ones. I have my vit. B, calcium, and iron supplements from them. They have a website if anyone is interested: www.naturemade.com I have been trying to...
  14. THANK YOU! Just reading your responses has helped to calm my nerves a bit. I am being VERY, VERY careful about eating gluten free stuff. AND, I am also taking my prenatal vitamins. Anything else I should know? If I talk to some people, they tell me to "eat crackers to help with morning sickness," etc... Stuff that really doesn't apply to me. I would...
  15. I just found out I am pregnant! On Valentine's Day none the less!! I am soo worried about having a miscarriage that I just need everyone to tell me that I am worrying about nothing. I am about 7 weeks along now and will not have my first appointment til next week. For anyone who has talked to me, knows that I am a very statistical type of person. So when...
  16. My periods don't last as long (2 days instead of the 4/5 on birth control). They also have been further apart (31 days instead of 28). What is the sense of having your period if you're not ovulating? (Being sarcastic). I am going to contact my ob/gyn soon if I don't start soon. AGAIN, I am worrying too much, aren't I?
  17. I have been recently (fudging the truth). Especially at restaurants. It is so much easier to say that I have a severe wheat allergy and if my food has any wheat products around it my face will turn beet red and my throat will close. And when they walk away I just say to myself "Just Kidding." That always is the easier, more understandable route. People...
  18. My first dx when I was 19 was depression. Then 3 years later I moved onto Bipolar Disorder. For a year and a half I was on lithium for the Bipolar disorder and also on anti-anxiety and sleep medication. I would seriously not sleep for days on end. I would be sitting up in bed just crying because I couldn't fall asleep. Even when I would take the sleep medication...
  19. Yes....you could be more pathetic....you could be me!!!! I am not past the crying over food yet. If I cry it is actually a good thing because I have actually been more "violent" than emotional. My husband has had to duck flying spatulas and bags of cheese! So I would say to you....it is very normal. My husband will be eating a bread roll and I will just...
  20. Ileana: Your translation is fine. I was able to understand what you are going through! From what I have researched, your child has a 1 in 5 chance of getting the disease. Breastfeeding though, may slow the onset of the disease. So if you are able to breastfeed, it seems that it would be worth it. Sorry about my translation! Hope you understand and...
  21. I know it sounds silly, but....my all time favorite cereal (and the only one that I will eat and am POSITIVE that it is gluten-free, is Envirokids: Gorilla Crunch. YUMMMM!! I get it in my regular grocery store. You may be able to find it near you (or request it) - it is a must try (at least once )
  22. Thanks guys! I actually am having "normal" periods because I was on birth control for years (got off of them in August) and seem to be regular. However, this month I tried taking my basal temperature in the a.m. and tracking it, it seems that I am not ovulating because my temperature has not spiked at all this cycle. I wonder if it could be the celiac...
  23. As a girl who is currently trying to have a baby, it has been a tremendous relief to find all of you who have had easy / normal preganancies. It might be that I read too much, but I had heard that it is harder for woman w/celiac to get pregant and then also harder to keep the baby full term. We have been "trying" since October and I think now that the celiac...
  24. Hi Lizzy! You seem to have the experience so......why don't you open up your own gluten-free restaurant so the rest of us have somewhere safe to eat and you have a safe place to work? Just open it up near Pittsburgh PA ok? Good luck going back! I hope that it works out for you. And you're right, if it doesn't work out, there are other jobs...
