Hey scotty, no I do not get the bleeding every time I get the "burning" flareups. Its bad enough that every time I make my excessive trips to the washroom its black. Then after a few days, when the flareup 'cools down' it goes back to whatever you could call normal..
I was constant severe pains in my lower right side, just above the hip bone, and it's so sore that its sensitive to touch--that is why I can not sleep on my right side at all. i just did last night, because i couldnt get confortable, and now I am paying the price!!!
So you think some of this can be related to Candida instead??
~ Lisa ~
Lisa I do think it can be related to candida. In the book I'm reading Power To Heal by Bruce Semon he writes, "The yeast makes toxic chemicals. These yeast chemicals can circulate in the body. Such cheicals are similar in structure to industrial solvents. Yeast makes acetol, acetoin, 2-methyle-2-pentenal, putrescine and spermine. These chemicals
are all listed as skin and eye irritants in the registry of toxic substances. Putrescine is extremely distructive to the tissue of the mucous membanes and upper respiratory tract, eyes and skin. It causes burns. Spermine is listed as causing skin and eye burns and may cause severe and permanent damage to the digestive tract.
It causes gastro intestinal tract burns and may cause perforation of the digestive tract. So chemicals come in from both the yeast present in the intestinal tract and from the diet. We don't know the impact of all the chemicals human beings take in. The body also has a limited capacity to clear toxic chemicals."
I read you eat mostly white rice which concerns me. It's really not much different then eating white table sugar to these little beasties. They feed on it. I would really look into a diet that is higher in protein and non starchy vegetable. I know vegetables give you problems but I found a bag of 'tender baby lettuce' thats very kind to the digestive tract. I think its from fresh express. Hopefully you can find somthing at least similar to that in your area.
I eat alot of salads and protein.

Hi Gail
What do you do for snacks?
Previously, the only way I've been able to keep weight on is by eating gluten-free cakes and biscuits and chocolate on top of a high calorie healthy diet
I'm having various tests run to check my enzymes, villi etc and my dr says the adrenal issue plays a large part in not being able to absorb food properly & gain weight.
What are you doing for your adrenals? My dr has me on an adrenal support which is basically bovine adrenal + vitamins, esp B vits. I'm probably also going to have to have more support for my thyroid.
Susie
Susie
What I usually do for snacks is have those blue diamond nut-thins and then have eigher tuna or salmon salad, you can make it with olive oil and lemon juice. I also tolerate cashew butter well. I don't believe it has the mold like peanut butter has. Another option if you can tolorate alittle dairy is those little wedges of laughing cow low fat cheese. Its not an aged cheese its soft and spreadable. I usually only have 8 crackers a snack and its only 11 carbs.
But then alot of people stay away from all dairy in the beginning or throughout the diet but I'm so limited with my choices I include a small amt. usually as the snack I mentioned above.
I don't eat alot of fresh raw veggies eigher but I will during the summer when I can get to a farmers market and buy organic local stuff. Even then I have to be careful or I'll get to much gas and with that I'll get alot of pains in my intestines.
I can't take any vit. B's or I get sick. I've tried so many times with different brands. So many adrenal suppliments come with B vit. and that makes it hard. I'll have to check to see if I can find the bovine adrenal alone and see if I can tolerate it. I'm pretty sure enzmatic therapy makes it.
Sounds like an interesting book your reading. I do have a terrible digestive system. I'm cold during the day and I'm hot during the night. I wish it was the other way around.

Hello everyone
My test results from my new dr came back - my adrenals are almost totally exhausted and my candida antibodies were off the scale
So I guess I'm going to be hanging around this thread lol!
Is there anyone here on the diet who has problems keeping weight on? That's me and whenever I've tried elimination or anti-candida diets in the past, Ive lost weight really quickly due to the low amounts of starch, despite eating loads of allowed foods. Any ideas would be appreciated!
Thanks
Susie
Hi Susie.......I also have the problem of trying to keep weight on while being on a candida control diet. The only diet, for me at least, is to go low carb. which starves yeast. I think going Paleo is the best because it makes it so easy to not have to consider what grains to eat or how to make bread without yeast etc. The only problems is this is usually a weight loss diet. Like you that makes it hard because I don't want to lose any weight.
My adrenals are pretty shot too from having panic disorder for a long long time before I discovered it was gluten and MSG that was giving me the panic attacks. But I would have them everyday and for awhile I would avoid crowds and closed rooms. I spend over 20 years like this. I'm sure the stress caused alot of the gut damage as well as eating the wrong foods like gluten and sweets. And oh beer!
Anyway I want to let you know I'm in the same boat, I need to be on this diet but stay stable in my weight. I've gained weight since christmas and have been getting comments on how well I look. I hate the thought of losing it now.
I'm thinking to do about 20 to 30 grams of carbs a meal (complex whole grain brown rice or quinoa maybe oats for grains). Then one or two snacks to keep energy levels up for the adrenals. The protein will be alittle higher then what I'm used to to make up for the calories.
Is that alot different then what your used to eating now? Do you have to eat out for lunch or pack one? What do you eat now to keep your weight on?

Thanks UCDsurvivor for posting. I've never heard of this and will diffenetly look into it. Just wondering however is it best for you to go plant based proteins or how do you get the protein you need to eat to survive. After I read about this I'll be considering a trial period of low protein to see if I feel better.
I might be eating the wrong things
I know if I eat too much protein to carb ratio I will be irritable, won't sleep, and my body feels like I'm wired. Almost like I've had 10 pots of coffee.
The reasons for me eating protein is it's a diet that's good for so many other disorders. Again thanks for giving information that alot of us will be looking into. So many just want answers.

The pains in my stomach are getting so bad that I just don't want to eat any more.
It's not gluten. It's not dairy, soy, casein, nuts, shellfish.. etc.. I have been doing an elimination diet since dec 26th. Everyday, I seem to be cutting out more and more food. I am getting worse with each day. I'm to the point where I eat and am instantly in pain. (its not gluten). My stomach hurt so bad last night that when I drank water, It hurt. I don't know how to explain it but trust me. I felt the water actually enter my stomach and bam! cramp/pain.
I have been posting under elimination diet gone wrong and tweaking the foods constantly.
I need to see a doctor but I have no insurance.
Please help
Which kind of dr. do I see? PCP, gastro?
What do I tell them?
What tests do I ask them to run?
What suggestions should I give them?
Make sure its not ovarian cancer. I'm trying to think of the symptoms ... I know it includes bloating, becoming full when eating and difficulty eating, pain in pelvis area? not sure if its just pelvis or not. Frequent urination. I know I just read them not long ago but my memory is gone.
Anyway I thought I'd mention this because early detection is key, and you just want to rule it out.
Good luck,
Gail

Whenever I'm under any kind of stress my neck hurts. I know I injured it along time ago but I also suspect its from having alot of old fillings that should be replaced.
Dietary stress from gluten is hard on your body. I'll toss and turn and not sleep well and my muscles get tense. Then the neck starts hurting. Other dietary stresses (for me) cause it too, like broccoli, cabbage and baked beans.
It sounded like you're glutening happened more then a few weeks ago? Do you typically have symptoms this long?

Nope you're not the only one. I used to get bad hunger pains followed by the shakes and irritability, followed by headache or migraine. That was if i didn't eat every 2-3 hours or so. I can now go 4-6 hours between meals, and I don't ever get that severe hunger I used to have. I don't miss it!
That is true...I forgot about those feelings. Much worse then feeling like I do now. I don't hardly eat any grains now. I don't have carrots or potatoes or legumes for that matter. Its no wonder I'm never hungry. I do get cravings though. Like warm choclate chip cookies out of the oven. If I do make them I'll eat so many I usually can't eat supper.

My daughter is on Erthromycin which is an antibiotic. She's taking it at a low level for it's side effect which is (of course) increased motility. I think this is one that also doesn't work for the long haul. I am beginning to have my doubts whether she really has gastroparesis. Her Gastric Emptying Study indicated that she did, however, she has never had a problem with poor appetite or not being able to eat a full meal prior to starting the medication or since.
bluejeangirl, are you saying that acid reflux with gastroparesis indicates not enough acid? My daughter was taking prevacid at the time of her GES. Yet when she is NOT taking the prevacid, she "spits up" more often!!!! UGH! I can't tell you how frustrated I am.
I don't even know what kind of questions to ask, but if anybody has any insight, I'm listening.
It's just my opinion but I think giving alittle child prevacid and antibiotics is just setting her up for worse problems ahead. But I really don't know why she gets worse when you take her off them. Other than maybe its the rebound effect that happens after you stop taking the meds.
Does she have asthma? Or destruction to her vocal chords? That would indicate acid in what she's spitting up. It could be just food thats not leaving her stomach and thats because she needs her stomach making the acid. I can see where your frustrated.
I know peppermint, fatty foods, chocolate are some foods that cause the sphincter muscle to weaken. Or there can be an incomplete closing of the sphincter due to a loss of muscle tone. I think that happens more with hiatal hernia.
I worry about Dysbiosis due to poor gut ecology. Which will get worse if your stomach doesn't have acid and taking the antibiotics.
I would have her chew gum because it helps produce saliva which will coat her esophagus with mucus. She'll hate it but alittle aloe vera juice is great for tummies too.
oh a good test for everyone to use if you don't know if your too acid or not enough (which will give you the same symptoms sometimes) is first thing in the morning when you get up drink about 1/2 t. of baking soda in half a glass of water. If you start burping you have acid in your stomach. If you don't burp you don't have any.
Anyway I wish the best for your daughter how hard it must be for you

I miss the feeling of being so hungry you could eat a horse.
I don't know if I'll ever get that back but I'm working on it. I know I have to heal my stomach, well the lining and going down through the intestines. I've just started taking some enzymes (Zypan by Standard Process) and buffered ascorbic acid. The directions say to take 2 but I'm starting off with just one. Hopefully on to two.
The ascorbic acid will help me with it being vit. C a vitamin that helps to heal but also it will add acid to help digest the meal.
IF my stomach starts to hurt with the zymes and C I'm just going to drink alittle baking soda in water to neutralize for the time being. I don't know if this will work I'll see. I really think I need help with digesting foods. Its not good for food to sit in your stomach or intestines. If you stomach acid is low your suseptable to bacteria, overgrowth of yeast, viral illnesses.
Also indigested food that didn't get digested in the stomach goes into the gut and causes all kinds of problems. When the flora is compromised the immune system weakens, destructive bacteria or yeast are not held in check. Then colonies of the harmful organisms can cause dysbiosis.
Without friendly flora the intestinal lining can become malnourished, you don't make vit. B12, and the destructive microbes that produce toxic chemicals will cause tissue damage in the G.I. tract. The barrier gets leaky and all toxins and bacteria can now seep into our bloodstream.
Well I could continue but you get the idea. You might want to check into the thread "candida". I'm going to be joining as well once I get over this cold I have.

I know that there are a few fellow wisconsinites on this board, so I thought I'd throw out a recommendation for one of my favorite restaurants. Manny's Mexican Cocina in Eau Claire, it's behind the mall kind of near the Sears tire center. The food is great, made to order (not nuked) and very good quality. They also know "gluten free". They keep a copy of my Triumph dining card in the kitchen, and the servers know what you mean if you ask for gluten free. Everyone is very nice and accommodating.
Sounds yummy. I check it out if I go that way. Love mexican food!

As most of you, I've been unwell for many years. I went through the medical doctors first, with many unexplained symptoms, including anxiety, panic, bloating and heartbeat irregularities topping the list.
So here I am, back where I started and still without answers.
This is a wonderfully caring group of people and I salute you all for your kind willingness to share openly to help others. Even if I end up not being one of you, I admire the ministry to others that you are providing.
God Bless.
Gentleheart,
Don't give up and please don't lose hope. Still come here and read cuz you never know where those anwsers will come. I certainly enjoyed your input and would miss you posting to.
For time being careful with sugars and caffeine. Keep your carbs low and complex so that they take awhile to digest. Don't ever get to hungry or low in blood sugar. This will help with anxiety and heart. Have you looked into Lucinda Basset's (sp) tapes on dealing with the panic attacks. They are very good. You don't have to be afraid of these episodes once you learn to deal with them.
God bless,
Gail

Hello everyone. I am new to this website and new to celiac disease. My son is autistic and was diagnosed this Tuesday and also has soy, egg and milk allergies.
I have been running around trying to get all that I can Gluten free. The problem I am having is that we ordered some food and are waiting for it but for now we are giving him mostly gluten free rice substitutes. He has corn tortillas he eats and rice pasta and marinara sauce that I mix with carrots, bananas (which usually regulate him), and applesauce. He loves applesauce which I am sure is not helping with the constipation. He is very picky and only 4.5yrs old. He is set in his ways and will not taste anything he does not recognize. So rice milk, rice pasta with meat and tom sauce with carrots in it, applesauce, banana, corn tortillas today and he is distended and in pain. What do I do? I gave him some green tea mixed with white grape juice and a banana which usually makes him go and nothing yet. Is green tea ok? I assume yes as I read the ingredients and it is fine but I just don't know what to do. I am really feeling overwhelmed and trying to take things one meal at a time. Thanks everyone for reading my post and any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated. Hugs to you all and have a great night.
Hugs,
Rosa
I don't think your giving him foods that are constipating. Unless he's having candida problems then fruits would be a problem. Candida thrive on sugars and fruits are naturally high in sugar. Its not unusual for autistic children to have issues with candida. You might want to look into it further. I good book to read, An Extraordinary Power to Heal by Bruce Semon M.D.

Hello,
I hope I am doing this right - I just joined a few minutes ago (though I've been reading the forums for about a year now! I was diagnosed in October 2006)
I am from Racine - anyone else from Racine? I've read here about the Gluten-Free Trading Company in Milwaukee, and have been there a few times - it's fun to go into a place that is entirely gluten-free!
I also shop at Molbeck's (they will be moving their store on Feb. 1-2 into the West Racine area) and at the new U-Bake across from Regency mall.
I've joined the Milwaukee SprueCrew just recently but have not yet been to a meeting (I understand they have them quarterly in Kenosha as well as Milwaukee - anyone here from Kenosha?)
If this has been posted incorrectly or in the wrong place, I apologize!
Caryl
You posted it right and welcome to celiac.com. Please feel free to jump right in and share. Sounds like your doing all the right things already. We're a friendly bunch here so if you have any questions ask away.

I get this problem also and I hate it. What's funny is I'll wake up around 4 o'clock in the morning and I'll feel hunger and wish that I felt that during the day. I'll go back to sleep hoping that I'll feel that way when I wake up. I never do it it drives me mad.
In addition to wheat I avoid foods high in acids because these foods irritate the lining of my stomach and give me a feeling of fullness. Milk does that too because its leaves you acidic. We want to keep a balance with our food choices and eat mostly alkaline foods. Chew very good and relax as much as possible while eating. Our stomach has to reach a certain ph before it moves the food out.
If he's burping 4 or 5 hours after his meals I would take some kind of acid reducers. This is usually an indication that I have to take them to get the acid down a bit. If he's getting gurd and food sits in his stomach then the problem is he doesn't have enough acid or enzymes. Apple cider vinegar helps too with this also.
Good luck with your search,
Gail

I didn't get gluten dreams but when I quit drinking I would have them with alcohol. I would wake up thinking I blew it and had a drink and feel guilty until I realized it was a dream. I think it was alot harder for me to give up beer and wine then eating gluten. And that fear gets played out in our dreams.
You might also have them whenever your doing anything in your life that your not suppose to be doing. It will work itself out in your dreams and gluten will represant that forbidden object, person, anything. You might ask yourself if there is something else going on that your doing that is going agaisnt what you know to be true.

Hi, my husband and I went into the city today (New York) to try this gluten free bakery called Babycakes. We sat in 2 hours of traffic but it was worth it. We bought a dozen gluten free dairy free cupcakes as well as 2 slices of a chocolate crumb cake and a half dozen mini brownies. So far we have tried the cake and it is excellent. The cupcakes are the kids dessert for New Years Eve. In case anyone wants to try it, the bakery is in SoHo. Definitely worth the ride. By the way, they also have muffins, cookies, corn bread, and other cakes we didn't really look at. They said that any of the cupcake recipes can be made into a big cake that would be ordered in advanced.
Nicole
She was on Martha Steward not to long ago giving her brownie recipe. It was very intertaining and wish I could of taped it. Even Martha loved them and couldn't believe the flavor they had. So you can make them and not wait 2 hrs in traffic. The recipe is somewhere on the cooking thread. I believed she gave a cupcake recipe too.

Who all is doing it or going to start doing it. I need all the moral support I can get. We have talking about it in the omg thread but i know there are people that are doing it that dont look into that thread, so i thought i would start an seperate thread. i hope no one minds that i am doing this.
I will be starting jan 1st, so if anyone has any good tips please let me know.
paula
I'm going to be doing it. I know in the oxalate thread it gets mentioned alot. We can post our progress on there if there isn't alot of interest on its own. I do think though that many people would benefit from this diet. There would be alot to discuss since there are so many opinions on what diet to follow. So anyone else?

Gail,
Roor beer--really? I've been thinking of making pulled pork with Sweet Baby Ray's sauce.....
I have some Boylan's Natural Root Beer--what kind of flavor does it add?
I've never noticed a root beer flavor or anything just that it helps to tenderize the meat. Remember the experiment if you put a nail in a glass of coke it will dissolve over time? So what ever is in soda ....Phosphates? You throw the liquid out of course when its done. I like sweet baby ray's also.

Just to add another possiblility look into gall bladder acting up. If I have a high fat meal I'll get queasy.
Gail
-
Did you ever make pulled pork? I usually make this if its a make ahead meal. If you put the pork roast in the crock pot add rootbeer to cover and it helps to tenderize it even more. Once its done and make sure its tender enough because you just pull it or shred it up and add your favorite BBQ sauce. I like Saz. You have to use alot because it'll taste better. Just let them serve it on buns so you don't even have to touch it. I'll put mine on a piece of G.F. bread.
You can buy the sides at the deli or make something easy.

I think its too much fat so I also add gluten free oats that have been made into flour with a food processor. It also gives the crust a nice color and better texture. Also roll out the crust on parchment paper and be very careful about placing it in the pan because without gluten it doesn't have the elasticity that your probably used to.
If your not eating oats then maybe just add less fat.

Treat yourself in other ways. Buy yourself a new pair of jeans or shoes, get movie you can enjoy with buttery pop-corn, take a bubble bath with a new scented lotion, light candles and play really good music, take a vigorous walk, read some magazines or book. I find I just have to distract myself with something and to avoid feeling sorry for myself.

. energy may be up a bit, but i haven't been getting great sleep since i found out i have celiac. i've been up late every night doing obsessive compulsive research!
There are more then a few of us with that compulsion here. Must be a side effect of eating too much rice.

Lisa I agree with Moldlady about vegetarian sources of protein. I don't have any expirence on being a vegetarian and anti candida diet so I'm not much help. Maybe you can ask the board with a separate post.
