  1. There is a website with lists of gluten-free prescription and over-the-counter medicines. Open Original Shared Link Asking a pharmacist doesn't always work. They don't always know! I have been traveling in remote areas and needed antibioitics, and the phamacist didn't know anything about gluten or celiac and had no idea how to identify ingredients...
  2. HI everyone, I use MAC cosmetics (which I love) and Tom's of Maine toothpaste. I cannot use Crest or Colgate, even though they are gluten-free. They make my mouth burn and I end up with acne on my face if the toothpaste touches my skin. I also use Burt's Bees face cleanser, toner, lotion, lip balm, and soap. Nearly everything they make is gluten...
  3. Melissa, A nutritionist is a GREAT iDEA. I go to one regularly. It has helped a lot. At first, she recommended lots of gluten-free grains. I gained 10 pounds in one month! Then I started eating the PALEO diet (caveman/paleolitchic diet) and dropped all that weight, plus much more. I am now down 30 pounds total from last August. I have found that...
  4. hi mariann and all - I have been gluten-free now since Sept 1 and wheat-free since Aug. 1. I have not had a biopsy yet, though my blood test results were positive for celiac disease back on Aug. 31st. I am so much better on a gluten-free diet. you cannot even imagine the difference! I have lost 26 pounds total and have gone from size 14 to size...
  5. Hi Judy and all - Sorry - I haven't checked the message boards in a long time! I have dropped 26 pounds, though. Can you believe that? I have lost 14 pounds since the 3rd week of January. Here's how i did it - i quit eating all processed foods for a while (since I was getting gluten reactions from something that i couldn't figure out...) and only...
  6. HI everyone, Just a quick note to tell you I have dropped 7 pounds in the past 15 days. I gave up gluten-free processed foods (bread, grains, beans) and have been eating a PALEO (caveman) diet. I feel so much better and I quit reacting to whatever was in the processed foods. I am not itching anymore and my stomach has calmed down. I also bought...
  7. Yes, it can be overwhelming at first to learn how to ship and prepare gluten-free meals. A couple of things that make it easier: find a nutritionist who knows about Celiac Disease. This will be the best money you have ever spent (and maybe it's free, if covered by your health insurance). He/she can help you plan out meal ideas, appropriate foods,...
  8. HI there, I am also a diagnosed celiac who only had blood tests and no colonoscopy or endoscopy/biopsy. I have responded so well to the gluten-free diet, though! When I have gluten now, I get horribly ill within an hour. My lief has been dramatically changed by following the gluten-free diet. however, I will probably have to get the biopsy done...
  9. Hi Steve... Have you thought about contamination from your pots/pans/toaster/bread board/cutting board/colander? What about lip things (like chapstick, which is indeed gluten-free) or hand lotions (since you can ingest hand lotion without realizing it) ? You might want to keep a food diary and symptom diary to see if you can completely narrow...
  10. Hi there - I second Shirley's comments about the kitchen. It does get easier as you get used to all of it ! My husband has continued to eat gluten while I live on the gluten-free diet. We have been successful with this for a couple of reasons: the counters are cleaned before and after every meal or snack with a gluten-free all-purpose organic...
  11. Just a warning - if you use the ALUM that KEJOE recommended - it will make you feel really dry and gross - like all the juice is being sucked out of you! I used to use that stuff all the time when I was in college (because I had so many sores back then). However, it really works to dry up a canker sore quicker than the normal 10 days they take to fade...
  12. Hi Crystal, Thanks for your reply. You know, after posting my comments last night, i went to a couple of celiac websites and looked at various pictures of DH. Some of them look a lot like what I have right now. I have been treated for excema in the past and my eldest sister has SEVERE psoriasis (had chemotherapy twice to treat it - experimental - and...
  13. Hi everyone, I have been gluten-free now since Sept 1st of 2003. I have only had a couple epsidoes of accidental gluten ingestion, and none of them have been recent. However, for the past couple weeks, I have had INTENSE itching all over my body - especially my back, buttocks, scalp, neck, chin, neck. I have never experienced anything like this in my...
  14. Hi everyone - It's interesting to read this new discussion! I have been gluten-free since Sept 1. I used to get HORRIBLE mouth sores. Once, after a bad bout with an antibiotic, I had over ONE HUNDRED SORES in my mouth. I couldn't eat, and frankly, could barely swallow water. The more typical case was 5-10 sores at a time on the inside of my mouth...
  15. I bake bread from scratch and then throw it in the freezer right away (usually already sliced)). Then it retains the same taste.
