ARCHIVED The Worst Canker Sore Outbreak Ever
bigapplekathleen replied to bigapplekathleen's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Well, guys, we finally have what we think is an answer. I spent three hours in the ER and 90 minutes in a different doctor's office (where they sent me after the ER) and 5 more docs looked at me. It's certainly viral in nature, but because of the clusters of ulcers in my mouth, it looks more like hand, foot & mouth disease (coxsacki), even though I... -
ARCHIVED The Worst Canker Sore Outbreak Ever

That's a very interesting thought. I kept thinking, wow, I stopped my vitamins and BAM! Maybe I should take them right away. I don't have any Lysine here, but will have someone stop and get me some and bring it over. My temp is in the 102 range (going up) so I need to just lay low. Thanks! k -

ARCHIVED The Worst Canker Sore Outbreak Ever
bigapplekathleen replied to bigapplekathleen's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks. I am not currently taking ANY oral medications, so that's out. (I started the VALTREX last night, but we called the company and they said it was gluten-free.) I haven't even added new foods in my diet. I am stumped. I am using that mouth wash you talked about. It's different at every pharmacy, depending on what they add, but basically calms it... -
ARCHIVED The Worst Canker Sore Outbreak Ever

Which brands of L-Lysine are Gluten-free ? Also - you have had EB for 2 years!? The doctors told me 6-12 month recovery to get back where I was. I have some really great days and some horrible (as evidenced by this week). I have had symptoms of EB since January, but wasn't diagnosed til end of May. The infectious disease doc said my bloodwork indicated... -

Ok, old-timers. I really need your help. 12 days ago, I got a couple of canker sores. This is normal for me after getting glutened (which I think had happened at a luncheon at work three days prior to the outbreak). The sores seemed to be going away and then BAM! They got really really bad and have now spread across every surface of my mouth this week... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free In Champaign-urbana, Il?
bigapplekathleen posted a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I will be guest-teaching in Champaign-Urbana, IL for a week at the end of June. Are there any local restaurants or bakeries or grocery stores with a good stock of gluten-free items that you can recommend? It's important that I have totally gluten-free food. I cannot risk cross-contamination. (I get horribly sick from eventhe smallest amount of gluten... -
ARCHIVED Her Celiac Disease "went Away" ?
bigapplekathleen replied to tiffjake's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have to admit that I was shocked that I had no tummy symptoms from eating gluten again. I used to get so sick from even the slightest cross-contamination, but honestly, the doc said my biopsy and everything looked perfect inside, so perhaps staying so perfectly gluten-free healed everything. The Westchester Celiac group's newsletter that just arrived... -
ARCHIVED Her Celiac Disease "went Away" ?
bigapplekathleen replied to tiffjake's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi everyone, Well, I just went through this very same thing. Of course, my doctors were never 'quite' sure that I really had celiac, though I responded exceptionally well to the gluten-free diet and all of my other medical problems went away completely. I flunked a gluten challenge 2.5 years ago (after being on a gluten-free diet for 1.5 years) and passed... -
ARCHIVED Question About Colonoscopy Prep
bigapplekathleen replied to bigapplekathleen's topic in Doctors
Thanks. I will keep that in mind for the next time. I am back home and coming down from the anesthesia. The procedures all went well, but they found a lot of things and removed 3 polyps. I will have results in 2 weeks, but I am a bit concerned about the stomach (very red and inflammed...possible h pylori) and esophogeal issues (reflux). I will wait the... -
ARCHIVED Question About Colonoscopy Prep
bigapplekathleen replied to bigapplekathleen's topic in Doctors
Thanks for your answers. I have been urinating all day, since I am drinking so many fluids. Just no bowel cleansing yet. And frankly, this feeling of throwing up is out of control. I cannot even drink that last glass of miralax and gatorade...it keeps coming back up... There are no contact numbers on my prep sheet, but I guess I can just call my doc... -
Hi everyone, I am having my 2nd endoscopy and 1st colonoscopy tomorrow at 1pm. I started the laxative prep today at noon, but weirdly, haven't even 'gone' yet, and it's 5 and a half hours into it. Should I be concerned? The only thing I feel at this point is the feeling of wanting to throw up from drinking the 64 oz. of gatorade with the miralax powder...

ARCHIVED Prilosec?
bigapplekathleen posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hey guys, I had a severe bout of food poisoning (not gluten) on Sunday and ended up in the ER. Now my tummy is killing me, and my gastro appt isn't for a week. I was going to buy some prilosec oTC, but it's not on the gluten-free drug list on glutenfreedrugs.com and I cannot reach the company (no phone contact listed on their website and they haven't... -
ARCHIVED How To Deal With Meals Within A New Dating Situation
bigapplekathleen replied to bigapplekathleen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
THIS IS WHY I LOVE THIS FORUM! Thanks for all the awesome recipes and ideas I really have no issues with the whole gluten-free thing, since it's been over 4 years now...but introducing it to a 'date' is daunting! We ended up cooking together last night in his kitchen. My tummy got a 'little' upset a few hours later, but nothing a little charcoal... -

Hi Everyone, I have been gluten-free now for over 4 years and am doing GREAT. I cannot even begin to tell you how wonderful I feel !!!! I just started dating a really great guy, who seems to really understand the whole gluten thing, and has been supportive and helpful... -

ARCHIVED For People Who Used The Scd To Recover More Quickly
bigapplekathleen replied to newlyfree's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I followed the SCD diet for about a month during my healing process. I have never felt better - Honestly! My stomach was so calm and digestion worked better than I ever remember. However, I found it nearly impossible to stay on this diet, since it is so strict. Elaine states in the book that if you aren't going to follow it EXACTLY, it's not worth doing... -
ARCHIVED Outback Disaster
bigapplekathleen replied to bigapplekathleen's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Well, I did NOT call the restaurant. It's over an hour from my home, and I will never go there again. Frankly, I questioned a lot of things about the service. I always ask repeatedly if my meal is indeed gluten-free and was sure to ask if my salad was mixed in a different bowl. I have to wonder if it wasn't something silly, though, like the lemon in... -
ARCHIVED Outback Disaster
bigapplekathleen replied to bigapplekathleen's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Thanks for your reply. My friend did NOT have a reaction; she actually does not have celiac. She follows a gluten-free diet for other reasons. The restaurant we ate at was in Beacon, NY (60+ miles north of Manhattan). I had shrimp on the barbie appetizer and a caesar salad with chicken. The reaction I had is the kind of reaction I get when I have... -
Hi everyone, I decided to try Outback today for the first time - ever. My friend and I are both on gluten free diets, so we ordered from the gluten-free menu. It's weird that it has no prices. (you have to check the prices on the 'regular' menu.) That aside, I am now home and HORRIBLY HORRIBLY ILL from whatever I ate there. I am so sad...My stomach...

Hi everyone, Well, I am going on FOUR years gluten-free and I still haven't had sushi. I am going out with a friend tomorrow night for sushi and need to know what to watch out for. I need to be ultra-careful, since I am so sensitive to gluten and have had a few really big disasters after eating out in the past month. Any SUSHI safety recommendations...

ARCHIVED Product Information...
bigapplekathleen replied to smiley1nyc's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi there, Gluten is only a problem when it is ingested, so you don't need to worry about things that you don't eat. Make-up and creams are a thing to watch out for, though. There are postings on this message board about various products. For example, I know that some MAC cosmetics are gluten-free and some are not. I carry a list with me when I buy products... -
ARCHIVED Tired Of Getting Glutened
bigapplekathleen replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
HI there! I posted this in another forum, but will post it here for you, as well, in case you haven't seen it over there. If I accidentally ingest gluten, I IMMEDIATELY take a few activated charcoal pills/tablets. You can buy these at any pharmacy. They help ease the symptoms and shorten my reaction time from DAYS or WEEKS to often just hours or one... -
ARCHIVED Extreme Fatigue After Ingesting Gluten?
bigapplekathleen replied to bigapplekathleen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, activated charcoal is recommended for celiacs. Both my nutritionist and my doctor recommended it to me, and it really does work. In fact, I have given some to others with severe GI symptoms and they thought I was a genius. ha ha ha I would NEVER EVER be without a bottle in my purse! Kat -

They help ease the symptoms and shorten my reaction time from DAYS or WEEKS to often just hours or one day. I buy COUNTRY LIFE 100% pure activated charcoal 260 mg. They contain only the charcoal in a gelatin shell. There is...
