  1. I found some Tahitian beans on the net today at: Open Original Shared Link I guess that the short beans would work as these are the size I tend to end up with when I grow them myself. I think the AC impacts the growth as in the summer, that room is kept at a constant 68° which is a little cold for the plants. You might think it is a little spendy,...
  2. OMG, I thought I was alone with this issue. I drink a gallon plus of water in a day and am always thirsty. I pee so much some days I think I should move a TV tray for the computer into the bathroom to save time. I have not had more than four hours of sleep solid in years due to the issue. I sure hope within the month of being gluten-free that this subsides...
  3. One bean, one bottle. I use a bottle that is 750 ml. The beans average in length of about 4"-5". As I grow them myself, the ones that make it to maturity are always good. The drying process is key to a good bean. When I dry my own, I "milk" them. Meaning each day I start at the bottom of the bean and massage it upwards. The final dried bean is soft...
  4. Actually, here in the state of Utah, we had a company come in, they first bought up all the hospitals they could, then they started "purchasing" the doctors. They really turned the health care of this state into one greedy HMO system. They pinch every penny they can and limit the doctors as to what they can and can't do and what they can and can't give...

    ARCHIVED Bone Health

I too have been active all my life, but into extreme sports. After a bad snowmobile accident some ten years ago, my ortho did a P.E.T. scan. I didn't know I was Celiac at the time and discovered I had Osteoporosis. Since this time I have used weights more. I again had a P.E.T. scan three months after my doctor removed me from my estrogen. There was improvement...
  6. Vanilla is really easy to make! My husband and I went to Tahiti a few years ago for a much needed vacation. I wished I had known I was Celiac prior so that I could have enjoyed it more. However, Tahiti has many vanilla plantations and of course, as I love gardening, I just had to visit them. I purchased some of their vanilla beans and asked hundreds...
  7. One of the first things my nutritionist told me was NO mayo, mustard and ketchup. She said that more times than not the last ingredient listed is "natural flavors" and in those flavors are hidden gluten. We purchase Heinz in our house, and I did go to their website, this is what they have to say about their products. As for beef patties. When...
  8. The book is such a great read, I am on my second time through it in as many weeks. It walks you through normal women and their results, not the super crazy flukes that find tremendous success that can't be duplicated. This book is filled with story after story of women who tried, made excuses, quit, started again, made excuses quit and well, they know all...
  9. I know I am new here, but I got this book a few weeks ago (prior to knowing I has Celiac) and was going to start it if my pain ever eased up. Anyhow, the book it titled "Body for life for Women" by Dr. Pamela Peeke. In it she challenges everyone to a 12 week challenge. It is all about the three M's of life, Mind, Mouth, Muscle. I am going to start...
  10. Yeah, I have a great book titled Body for Life for Women by Dr. Pamela Peeke. She also wrote Body for Life which works great for men. I highly suggest this book to anyone. It is all about the three M's Mind, Mouth, Muscle. Diet Pills, I try to stay away from medications, the list of complications or side effects is enough to scare anyone from swollowing...
  11. Earwigs are easily "tricked". And yeah, I was raised on a large cattle ranch so all the "old school" crafts are very much a part of my life. Back to earwigs. There are many things you can try, but the easiest way to catch the buggers is to simply purchase a single, narrow garden stake (I use bamboo so when they are to old to use any more I just toss them...
  12. You know, why are we fighting our doctors. True, I ran into many who lacked compassion, but the greater issue here is education. Education for both the patient and the physician. If there were more education out there on Celiac, it might be caught earlier. Lets face it, how do you know to test for it if you don't know it exists? I really only have...
  13. Nancym, I did file a report with the insurance company who did nothing. I then filed with the state insurance board who also deals with the licenses of the doctors. This doctor is no longer in practice in the state of Utah. I found out that my report was not the first report of her actions like this. We have to remember that doctors are people and...
  14. There is so much to learn and understand about being Celiac! I might add that the three days of extreme pain was caused by my new "Menopause VitaPak" vitamins from GNC. My General Doctor removed me from estrogen nearly three years ago and all the problems caused like the hot flashes and night sweats were driving me bonkers. I had only been on the vitamins...

    ARCHIVED "celiac Isn't Hereditary"

I hate to say it, but we must all remember that Doctors are not licensed Gods, they are licensed to PRACTICE medicine. In the western world, no matter how much we don’t want to admit it, medical break through are the results of research grants or the direct research of the pharmaceutical communities not the grocery stores. There is no money to be had i...
  16. I do have a question, my nutritionist doesn't know of a cook book for gluten-free diets and I would really like one!
  17. I don't think I could count the number of doctors I have seen through the years. It only took 35 years of going through "it is all in your head" till at last a colorectal cancer specialist diagnosed it. A long journey for sure, but there is light at the end of the pain at last.
  18. It started out all innocent, being sent from the table as a young child for passing gas. I knew it would get me in trouble, but it wasn’t easy to hold in. We had stringent rules at our meal table growing up. No belching, no speaking unless spoken to, no passing gas and always-proper etiquette. I should add, I was always being sent to bed early for passing g...
