  1. Well, as far as cancer goes, there have been some studies in the area with people having cancer verses celiac patients with cancer. There are several websites where some of the research has been posted, one such website is located at: Open Original Shared Link Know your disease and know your option and find a doctor who understands this disease (not...
  2. As I sat down for the past five days or so, trying to plan a cruise for my husband and I, I realized that in the “special diet” section only two ships show Gluten Free in the needs. When I called the others on the phone, several more also provided Gluten Free menu items. However, the planning phases of a nice cruise for 2007 (in the cruise industry not...
  3. I was wondering if anyone else had a problem with being really honery when they first started out on their gluten-free diet? I am nearly two weeks into my new diet, already feeling some results (mainly night sweats and arthritis pains), but have noticed that I “fly off the handle” very easily. This is not like me at all and I am wondering if it has any...
  4. After I contacted Albertsons (a local grocery store), they provided me with a list of all their "in house" brands and on the canned beans they indicated that "Cross Contamination" was an issue here as the supplier process grains, to include wheat, in the same facility. Thus, I would contact the manufacturer and make sure this is not the case with them...
  5. I have suffered with bed drenching night sweats for years. I purchased some vitamins from GNC prior to my diagnosis, the Menopause VitaPak which contains several things us "mature" (I'm almost 40) women need. I had not seen any results, but vowed to take the entire box prior to making my decision. I was then diagnosed with celiac disease and removed...
  6. I have found sometimes it is best to give them EXACTLY what they ask for. In this case they wanted letters, so I had to show them just how dumb and large their request was. Asking for the name and address of their professionals was simply in kind of them requiring one of me! hehehe
  7. When first diagnosed I was really depressed, but I have been a cook all my life, so I didn't look at it as carrot sticks and fruit the rest of my life, I look at it as how can I have my cake and eat it too. I haven't messed with breads or cakes yet, but discovered that pasta is really easy to make with gluten free flours. Sauces I can thicken with corn...
  8. They want to get stupid in their request for letters from our doctors? No problem, I can get stupid in my email! Here is the email I sent them: Subject Line: What silly requirements! Need Customer Service Email: Dear P&G, With such a large company carrying such a wide array of products, I have had the displeasure of being told each...
  9. Their website is: Open Original Shared Link I called this company today to ask which of their cosmetics were gluten-free. They told me that anything with "Bare Minerals" on the lid is gluten-free. Lip Glosses, all of their lip glosses are gluten-free Quick Sticks, all of their quick sticks are gluten-free
  10. I have a question, all my life from time to time small sections of my skin (on my face and neck, back of my hands or tops of my feet) would all of a sudden swell, turn read, fever to the touch and form a rash. It comes and goes never stays and when the swelling goes down and the localized "fever" is gone and the rash is gone, I am left with skin that looks...
  11. I hate to say it, but there are many illnesses that through diet changes and supplements that DO produce a false negative test through blood or biopsy. There are many "quacks" (yes I call many doctors, herbal supplment /potion pusher that knows these things quacks) who know what to use and or how to change a persons diet to produce a false negative test...
  12. Many dog owners have known for a really long time that dogs do not do well with grains. In the show ring and in canine powere sports (what I am into), we have not used a grain based dog food in forever as they don't provide our active dogs what they need to be in optimal shape and health for their sports or competitions. Diamond makes a really good grain...
  13. How about those natural mineral make up lines. You know the infomercial you hit every now and again while thumbing through the 900 channels of nothing on cable? Bare Essentials I think they are called. Hmm, I guess I will check into that one for you tomorrow. Deborah
  14. First, I know I am late, I had to do research to learn what foods I could eat as I was getting really tired on fruits and bananas. Being adopted in the 70's we didn't know my family history and at age 17 I started having siezures and bouts with passing out or browning out. Yes, the initial doctors told my I was a mental case looking to be sick when all...
  15. Didn't mean to upset you. Holy cow. First, I never said I thought McD was lying, nor did I ever indicate that I thought everyone else was trying to pull the wool over my eyes. Clearing my cache for a site I have never visited will do nothing, it clearly shows an updated 2-7 and I use fire fox as my browser. I posted that because I think it is a coding...
  16. Me too! My thyroid called it quit, I am hypo so no sugar for me and yes, in the first week of being gluten free, I packed five additional pounds (I think all on my caboose). I do have more energy though and just last night slept for a solid 8 hours. I am exercising more and hope that after a month of this gluten-free diet that the weight gain stops....
  17. So again, they are passing the buck to the supplier. If I understand correctly, they first stated that the gluten (from wheat) comes from the oil, yet wheat is not mentioned in the oil section, it is listed in the actual fry ingredients section. As for me, I use Firefox as my browser, never went to their site prior to today and it still shows no indication...
  18. gluten-free, Since starting my gluten-free diet (only a week and a half now) I have started in with the "charlie horse" like cramps in the muscles in my legs as well. I take several really good vitamins (though had to change a few due to gluten issues). I have always taken vitamins and can't for the life of me figure out why the cramps have started up...
  19. You know, when it comes to food, marketing claims and everything else, I have yet to find a drug/supplement/fast food/ or any other business establishment that does not first blame the manufacturer, who in turn blames the supplier for misrepresentation and or label omissions and or falsities. They all tell us “read your labels”, but as we have come to ...
  20. This is so great to see so many of you interested in the challenge. Give me a day or two to set up a forum for it on my website. I would like to post a "before and after" picture if you guys don't mind sharing your mugs. It will give you a place to "blog" your happy and not so happy days. I must admit that I am only a week and a half into my gluten...
  21. As we all know, there is no cure. The treatment is to go gluten-free, after being gluten-free for a while, your tests will come back negative, but if you go back to gluten foods, guess what, your tests will once again be positive. A cure means it is gone, won't come back, so no, there is no cure for Celiac Disease, but it can be taken care of through...
  22. It is a huge trend that is reshaping, though slowly, the market place. Just last night I attended my first gluten-free support group meeting. It was held at an all gluten-free Italian Gourmet Restaurant. They were even willing to share the ingredients. It was the best meal I have had in over a week and talk about tons of pastas and even breaded chicken...
  23. No biggie were my first thoughts after being diagnosed. I mean, all you have to cut out are gluten foods (wheat, barley and rye), how tough can that be right? I remember driving home in the car after being diagnosed feeling elated that at last all the strange illnesses and diseases I had at long last had a name to place on their ugly faces. The honeymoon...
  24. You have to have a good bean from the pod to start with, they look like green beans really until they are dried which is when they take on the dark color. As such, you also should understand that the vanilla plant is an orchid. Where ever you grow your plant, make sure the temperature stays on average of around 70°. Temps over 85° will fry the plants a...
  25. Hmm, would that be mis-representing? Did the menu state it was rice, and all the yada, yada words to entice you to order it? That would be like selling apple juice that contained no apple juice. Not so long ago Gerber and several apple juice manufacturers got in trouble for doing that. They stated "apple juice", but the product contained no apple juice...
