  1. HAHA! I managed to resist until last week and this week. And I've made up for lost time. I don't even know how many hours I've spent in Rutherford working on papers and I think I have had about 10 things of NYF. SO not good for the arteries! Good luck on your exams, I am assuming you are a student? (I have a paper due tomorrow, which I have only just...
  2. It's in HUB. It's near the north end, not too far past the A&W but before Cookies By George and North Java. What do you do for food on campus? I've bee to The Potato Man and just had plain potatoes. But other than that I don't really eat.
  3. I had it done. It took 5 hours. They make you breathe into little inflatable bags. The first one you do with nothing in your system. Then you take lactulose and for the first two hours you blow every 10 minutes, then the next 3 only every half hour. They made me sit up the whole time so I didn't fall asleep because it's very important that you blow at the...
  4. I'm sorry you got sick. I eat at the one on the U of A campus and have never been sick, nor from any of the other locations. I know that some NYF don't do hotdogs so maybe those are the safer bet, when it's fries only.
  5. Personally I eat EnerG, I think they taste the closest to bread and don't crumble. I used to love multigrain breads but have yet to find a good gluten-free version. I find Kinnikinnick breads to be too sweet. I try to stay away from rice breads (too sweet) and go fo tapioca and potato based breads. In Europe a great deal of their breads are potato based and...
  6. I've never tried these oreo's you guys' speak of, though I don't know if I can eat them. I've had their gingerbread cookies (I don't know if they ship them or not) which taste like normal cookies I think. Their lemon meringue pie is good too. I don't like their bread though, I find it overly sweet. But I'm heading there tomorrow so I gotta check out these...
  7. I love that for the first time in my life there is someone (are people) who actually understand one of my problems. I love that I have friends who can read ingredient listings and know ALL my allergies. I love that my best friend's mom took me for dinner at a restaurant after she discovered they had gluten-free pasta. I love that despite all the...
  8. First of all I wanna say that I'm sorry for how bad some of you guys have had/have it. I'm relatively new to this forum but I've been reading lots and lots and have learned a ton! So despite your struggles you've taught at least one person a whole heck of a lot. So thanx Now here's my list. I hate that I didn’t get to be a kid as long. I hate t...
  9. Sweet. I like snow I just had to shovel.
  10. can you believe the snow last night?!?!? BAH!
  11. haha, sorry I saw your post just now about you going to calgary without your husband... oops...
  12. In response to Felidae, there is both a McDonald's and a New York Fries (which I too eat all the time at uni) at WEM. He might be talking about Julio's Barrio, maybe? And the Organic Grocery store off whyte is Planet Organic.
  13. I was born with asthma and have been under very special care by a pulmonary specialist since birth. Thankfully my asthma is well controlled and I have never been in hospital because of it. I am on medication twice daily for it. My GI is doing research on the connection between asthma and celiac. So it seems the so-called experts are finding a link between...
  14. Hi, I don't know what Hotel you're staying at, but obviously you're downtown. There is a Chianti's on Whyte (82nd) Ave. About, 10 minutes from downtown. There is also a Sorrentino's downtown... right by the Macdonald. I don't know about that location but I know the southside one on Calgary Trail has gluten-free pasta. So you could try giving them a call...
  15. I agree, it stinks that they are small and cost so much, but the comfort in knowing I'm safe is worth it. Plus, they are the only bars that I can get in my city that I can have. The only ones that don't have atleast one of my allergies in them!
  16. The Hoisin Sauce that I use is "Premier Japan" here's their website. Open Original Shared Link They are based out of California I believe. Hope this helps.
  17. Here in Canada I can get it just about anywhere. They are rice wrappers or rice paper depending on the company. What they use in Vietnamese cooking, for rice rolls. Perhaps in the international food section, or a chinese store. I know here you can get them in regular grocery stores, health stores, or chinese superstores. And you can get them in various sizes...
  18. I went to that pizza place I posted about earlier and they have the gluten-free pizza crusts now. They are using the kinnikinnick shells. While they aren't my favorite - I prefer the Glutino - the pizza was really good. I had absolutely no problems whatsoever. And it wasn't any more expensive than regular pizza. I think mine was 13 bucks for a 10" (the only...
  19. I haven't perfected the technique yet but what my mom and I have done is used rice paper. We got the idea from a Gluten-Free cookbook (title escapes me right now) that said to use rice paper to do "en croutes". So... what we did was take the rice paper and then rub it with oil, I imagine you could do butter or margarine (I can't do dairy), and then sprinkled...
  20. The Edmonton Celiac Association website has almost no information compared to any other city. I'm really dissapointed. I used to eat at Sicilian all the time before going Gluten-Free so I might have to pop back there sometime. I really like Sorrentino's though and have been successful in going there. I hope you get your courage to venture out and eat...
  21. Hey I don't know all the ingredients but I do know that it has milk/cream dunno which but I can't do dairy so that ruled it out for me. The bottles have the ingredients on them, or atleast the one I found did! good luck
  22. So it looks like I should move to TO or Van. to enjoy eating out! Here's where I eat out in Edmonton. Sorrentinos (italian), they have gluten-free pasta and the servers are extremely knowledgeable. I don't know if all the locations are like this but the one on Calgary Trail is good for sure. Also, the UrbanDiner in high street (off of Jasper Ave...
  23. I'm new to all this too and there are many people on this board who are more knowledgeable than I am. However, my GI is also a researcher and is studying the relationship between asthma and celiac. It seems that stomach problems tend to come first and then asthma. I've had stomach problems from birth and was soon after diagnosed with serious asthma, though...
  24. floridanative, Travelling overseas can definitely be intimidating with food restrictions but it's no reason not to go, so I'm glad you've decided to go ahead with your trip. As for restaurant suggestions in Paris... I don't have anything specific to offer you really, sorry. I have a ton of other allergies so eating in restaurants in general is difficult...
  25. I'm from Canada too, Edmonton, and also new to all this. I'm in the process of being diagnosed, just had my biospies on thursday. I had been off of gluten for 4 years prior to the 6 weeks leading up to the test so I've got the hang of eating gluten free but I'm sure I'll have loads of other questions.
