  1. My son's algery doc said that Cocnuts are a tree nut, and ppl with treenut allergies will react to them. The lab testing sheet for the blood alergy also had them catogrized as a treenut. Thats all I know! :P

Wierd, it was my allergy doc that told me that. It was funny actually, he sat there with this big botany book with me and looked up all of the things that made my mouth itch to see what families were what and what cross reacted. He said that coconuts weren't nuts, but fruits, and that almonds didn't make me react because they're actually in the peach family.

That's why people with a sensitivity to almonds can't have peaches, apricots, etc. Wierd. I only have an oral allergy, so it's not *that* serious.

I'd ask your allergist more about it. I know that shea can cross react with tree nuts, so look out for that...

I'm doing some digging into it:

  2. To catch you up, cause you prbly need to know.. charcole filters MAY contain wheat, MOST contian cocnut husks (a tree nut btw).

Good news: coconuts are actually in the palm family, and don't cross-react with tree nuts. :) You can be allergic/intolerant to them, though.

I had been following the whole water drama, but it's still kind of sad that we have to challenge with WATER

Wonders never cease around here

  3. The iron saturation is a measure of how much transferrin you have, which is what carries the iron around and releases it into the blood stream. I would kill for a saturation of 52! Actually, he told you to stop taking iron because 52 is a bit high. My bloodwork shows the normal range to be between 20-50%. My iron saturation is a 4

What that means is that you are in no way anemic :)

  4. I was hoping nobody would say fibromyalgia... it's in no way worse or better being on gluten, it's constant, I just thought of it today. The legs don't surprise me, because I have THE WORST vericose veins you will ever see on a 22 year old, and I've had them since I was 17. These aren't dinky spider veins, they're monster bulging, blue road maps. I even have one or two on my arms.

I don't understand the back thing, though. I dunno.

  5. I emailed Reed's to inquire about their ginger beer, ginger candies, etc. I think I got a record response time of 5 minutes. Anyway, they hear the question a lot and have researched it extensively. All of their products are gluten-free.

If you've never had their ginger beer, try it, it's excellent! Way more gingery than canada dry and they have a hot version too that's really good. I didn't know they had ice cream, too! I'm going to have to look out for it :)

I also eat the ginger chews when I have an upset stomach.

  6. I just checked - all I could find is that the rapid release gels are gluten-free in canada, not useful for those of us stateside, though <_<

All the recent Tylenol lists say that Rapid Release Gels haven't been tested yet, but they don't *expect* to find gluten in them, FWIW. Those lists are from late June.

  7. Ah Bananas-the coeliacs friend (if you're not allergic!)

Look at this handy little gadget I was going to buy for my hubbie-stops it getting sqaushed up in your bag!!

I LOVE IT!!! Now I just need to find it in the states. I'd have to remember not to take it on a plane though, how embarassing does THAT look on an airport scanner

  8. I am closing in on the finish line of my 3 month gluten challenge, meaning I have a month left  . I was gluten-free 4 months and then decided I wanted a biopsy. Frankly, it sucks. I started out on the challenge with C, as opposed to the normal D, I gained 20 lbs in a month, I feel like I'm drunk all the time, can't focus, extremely tired, and back to D several times a day.

    Did I mention it sucks?

I can't wait to go back to gluten-free, but I want an accurate biopsy. No doctor is going to tell me to go back to gluten, I've had 4 tell me I am at least intolerant and have to be gluten-free for life anyway. I (and my dr's) want to see if there's any damage. If I don't get the biopsy done, I'd always wonder what would the results would have been.

If you're comfortable with using Enterolab and can afford it, by all means do so!

  9. Off all topics, even the off-topic ones -

I just got off the phone with our tech guy for our prospect managment software that's showing me how to use this labrynth of a system that's supposed to make my life easier. He's maybe 30, and works with all of the councils nationwide.

Should I be offended he called me kiddo?:rolleyes::P

C'mon guys, I know I'm young, but sheesh!

    Better than "hun" I guess....

  10. Chelsea,

It sounds like your gluten challenge could be the culprit. You still have a month left? I meant to comment on the weight watchers pages ago but forgot. I would think the weight wouldn't be too hard to lose once you are back off gluten. I don't know if you've been eating products with a lot of refined sugar, but going off of refined sugar and only eating the sugar that's no so refined will help with weight loss. You still need to watch all sugar intake, it's just the refined stuff that so bad as far as weight.

I don't think it's the gluten challenge, I've had this going on for years, and being gluten-free did nothing for it. It may have been worse, actually.

I'm thinking the weight won't be too hard to lose when I'm off gluten, especially if I start WW at the same time. Double whammy of eating retraining :)

  11. I just realized I made up a new word there - relevations. Kind of like revelations, only spelled wrong. Whoops

I've been doing that a lot. Like, I'll intend to write "the dog chased the cat out of the house" and I'll end up writing "the dog chased the cat out of the credit card"

Man, this brainfog is so deep that no amount of red bull will save me now

  12. I fell about a month ago and the bruising is gone, but my leg still hurts like it is bruised even with very light pressure...is that close to the pain you are feeling?

I had a massage on Saturday and thought I was going to die. Its a deep tissue massage and I always have her use heavy pressure and it's usually not a problem, but almost every spot she touched...even with lighter pressure on my feet hurt like crazy.

That sounds pretty close. I can't tolerate anything more than a gentle backrub. Even a light massage on my shoulders HURTS LIKE HELL!! Not just during it, which could be tight muscles, but for a good 2-3 minutes after the touching ceases.

  13. Ooh! Ooh! I can get on topic, too!

I posted in another forum about bizarro pain I've been having. Does anyone else hurt a lot when someone scratches your back, gives you a massage, or you scratch your back? Or when you slide out of bed in the morning and your calves rub against the edge of the mattress? It's an intense soreness, like you just hit something really hard, only all of this is with avergage pressure. I've had it a few years, I never realized it wasn't normal

Since we're in the land of magical relevations, I figured this might be a more helpful place to ask advice

  14. Alright, to recap: I'm on a gluten challenge for a biopsy Aug 20th. Previously, I was gluten-free 4 months, and had inconclusive bloodwork.

    Anyhoo.

Does anyone experience a lot of pain when poked or scratched in some places? Like, if my husband scratches my back (average pressure), it kills me! It's an intense sore pain that feels like it's going to bruise but doesn't. The same thing happens if my calves slide against the edge of the mattress when I get out of bed in the morning. It seems to be worse at night and in the early morning. I can't tolerate massages because they hurt! It seems like my back, upper arms, and legs are affected most.

I was breaking out into hives constantly, but switched detergent and it's not as bad. I still break out into a rash that doesn't necessarily itch, but it still raised and bumpy but not red on my outer thigh. It comes and goes. Don't know what that's about. My scalp also itches like crazy.

None of my personal care products have gluten.

My joints pop but don't hurt. I'm also extraordinarily tired no matter how much I sleep, but that may be gluten related. Hell if I know.

Um, anyone know what any of that is about?
