  1. This is just my personal theory, as yet I guess nooone has thought to analyse those nodules... my bet is they contain gluten but hey... Im just a sufferer.

Seems rather unlikely, indeed there is plenty of evidence to the contrary.

Noone seems to have decided and after various governments spending time and money trying to prove harmful effects (outside of inhaling tar) and even the US military noone has managed to prove it... which considering the agenda was to prove harm it seems somewhat unlikely

So it seems rather premature .. since Lister is smoking tobacco which we know is bad and tobacco is physically addictive I would rather think this is more serious.

Smoking pot causes cancer, too. I've seen it happen. The research goes both ways, but having seen the negative effects of long term cannabis use in my own family, I tend to lean toward the bad stuff.

This seems most relevant to our situations:

Some of marijuana's adverse health effects may occur because THC impairs the immune system's ability to fight disease. In laboratory experiments that exposed animal and human cells to THC or other marijuana ingredients, the normal disease-preventing reactions of many of the key types of immune cells were inhibited14. In other studies, mice exposed to THC or related substances were more likely than unexposed mice to develop bacterial infections and tumors15,16.

I'm not one of those people who has never used mj and am judging against it. I'm not one of those people that thinks it should be totally illegal, because I don't. It's a hell of a lot better than alcohol, IMO. I do feel that it is a bad idea to smoke it every day, especially in someone with an already comprimised immune system. You're not smoking it to relieve the effects of AIDS or chemo meds, you're smoking it recreationally, habitually.

The cigs are also obviously a problem, but Lister already is trying to quit those.

  2. I don't have D! At all! I got it once last week, and that was pretty horrible, because I had an accident in public. I've never had that happen! And it was green. Sorry, that was an overshare.

I've gained 10 lbs in 2 weeks (this is NOT needed or appreciated weight) <_<

I seem to be functioning normally digestively, something I couldn't do in the last 3 years or during the 4 months of being gluten-free... The only issue seems to be some extra gas and D cramping without D.

I seem to be having neuro problems, I keep hip-checking things, like the door jamb, which is something I stopped doing a long time ago. It's like my trajectory is off. I'm also feeling increasingly stoned.

For example, I ate pizza for lunch on Friday and I was afraid I was going to get pulled over for drunk driving, because I felt drunk. (haven't had a drop)

I'm wondering if the neuro stuff is psychosomatic, though. I'm just so confused!

Has anyone else done a gluten challenge and had this kind of experience? I still have another 10 weeks to go to hit the 3 month mark! And I know I'm eating enough gluten, at least...

  3. I'm sorry you're feeling so bad :(

If you're going to persue testing, pack the immodium and do the best you can. Eat all of the gluten you can stand. I'm mid-challenge right now and I'm to the point of being afraid to drive. It's a lot easier to put up with it for a few more weeks than to be gluten-free for months and have to go back on gluten for another 3 months.

I find that red bull perks me back up the fastest without burning me out. Some phayzyme might be a good idea for you at this time, as well.

    Good luck!

  4. I agree with Tiffany. My doctor told me after I'd been gluten-free for a few months, "well, the gluten-free diet is so hard to follow in America." I said, well, yeah, but not really. One would think that dr's would do anything they could to get their patients to stop eating processed and fast food crap! The gluten-free diet is excellent in that regard!

I try and put the dr in my shoes. Like, "so, why did you go into gastroenterology? Did you have constant D for years and horrific stomach pain as a child?" Empathy is something all doctors need, and very few have.

I'm sure qantum physics isn't as hard as it sounds, but it does require a lot of math. I skipped physics all together in favor of more advanced biology. It's like Greek. It looks like a hard language because it has a different alphabet, but other than having four different ways to say the sound "ee", it's not bad. There are actually a whole lot of cognates.

  5. I hope you get better soon! I had cellulitis in March when I failed to metabolize mold spores from intradermal allergy testing. Luckily, I caught it really fast, because I woke up one morning with a pulsing bullseye on my arm

Remember to try and eat some yogurt or something while you're on the antibiotics, those potent ones really do a number on your system! I think I'm finally recovering from those antibiotics, and the prednisone. I can still see the needle pinprick site!

Good luck at the dr, many hugs and healing vibes your way! :)

  6. BEWARE of some of the Colgate Toothpastes. I think it was the Whitening one with Baking Soda and Peroxide i tried, it gave me the worse mouth ulcers/kanker sores. The more I used it the more I got. They got worse until I put 2 & 2 together and stopped useing Colgate and went back to Crest.

I have never had a problem with Crest Toothpastes.

Good luck, it's a lot of trial and error. Some companies will tell you there product is gluten-free and you find out it's not. I still love the email I received from Ketal One Vodka company telling me it was gluten-free, but made with 100% Wheat. Go figure.

With the toothpaste, it probably wasn't gluten that got you. There are a lot of chemicals in toothpaste, especially whitening ones, and you probably reacted to something like that. Not all reactions are caused by gluten.

Also, Ketel One vodka is gluten-free, even though it is made from 100% wheat. The distillation process doesn't allow for a huge protein like gluten to get into the final product. If you do a search on alcohol on this forum you'll see the whole debate about it.

  7. Everyone knows white bread isn't made from wheat...that's why all the restaurants ask if you want wheat bread or white bread.

    ( I couldn't even type that with a straight face. :P )

Isn't it scary how some people eat that crap every day and never have the thought, "hmm. I wonder what white bread is made out of"

Or even what white flour is made out of...

"oh brave new world that has such people in it"

  8. I work with college students and warned them, if you get a tattoo get it "here" and I motion the upper part of your butt cheek, if you're getting a weird piercing, get it through your tongue or belly button. That way if you are more conservative (probably because of work) when you're older, then you have no evidence of your wild youth!!!

My mom was supposed to get a tattoo with me, but she chickened out and put in the piercing clause instead. You can also pierce erm, the boobsie twins. I assure you, it's a very VERY painful way to rebel. <_< Also, when you're at a mardi gras in college and you've been drinking and there are frat boys with video cameras...it's not such a great idea

    They don't leave scars though!!!

I let my kids have an occassional drink at home ... I split a bottle of champagne with my daughter before her graduation party ... I don't think her friends believed her! I think it is important to relate, and it's different with each kid and each family.

It definitely depends on the family. I was a goody-goody too (well, until senior year anyway, even then I didn't drink) and the tradition in my family is that when a girl gets her first period, we celbrate with a glass of red wine. I was allowed to drink wine at family dinners and allowed the occasional beer. Never was a big drinker :)

  9. Here's a recipe from allrecipes.com, I modifed it to make it gluten-free, and it would work, but I haven't tried it.

    INGREDIENTS:

    Sauce:

    1 1/2 cups water

    2 tablespoons orange juice

    1/4 cup lemon juice

    1/3 cup rice vinegar

    2 1/2 tablespoons wheat-free tamari (San-J)

    1 tablespoon grated orange zest

    1 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 teaspoon minced fresh ginger root

    1/2 teaspoon minced garlic

    2 tablespoons chopped green onion

    1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes

    1 tablespoons cornstarch

    2 tablespoons water

    Chicken:

2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1/2 inch pieces

    1 cup cornstarch

    1/4 teaspoon salt

    1/4 teaspoon pepper

    3 tablespoons olive oil

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    DIRECTIONS:

Pour into saucepan 1 1/2 cups water, orange juice, lemon juice, rice vinegar, and tamari; and set over medium-high heat. Stir in orange zest, brown sugar, ginger, garlic, and chopped onion. Bring to a boil. Remove from heat, and let cool 10 to 15 minutes.

Place chicken pieces into a resealable plastic bag. When contents of saucepan have cooled, pour 1 cup of sauce into bag. Reserve remaining sauce. Seal bag, and refrigerate at least 2 hours.

In another resealable plastic bag, mix 1 c. cornstarch, salt, and pepper. Add marinated chicken pieces, and shake to coat.

Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Place chicken in skillet, and brown on both sides. Remove to paper towels, and cover with aluminum foil.

Wipe out the skillet, and add the sauce. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Mix together cornstarch and 2 tablespoons water, and stir into sauce. Reduce heat to medium low; stir in chicken pieces, and simmer, about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  10. I'm also a recent convert to the Bare Minerals foundation. It's really easy to vary coverage depending on what you need. Normally I use a light application, but for a wedding I was in, I did full coverage. Worked great!!! The bride even used some of the "warmth" on top of her foundation and it looked awesome!

Gave her that "blushing bride" look...

It's way easy to apply, too. So much faster than liquid+powder!! Plus there is a lot less blending involved...

  11. Hmmm, I've always blacked out frequently when I stand up. Another thing I thought was normal! <_< And I do have blood pressure that's on the low side.

Eat more salt! My family has this problem all over the place (incedentally, we also all get bad charley horses and have low bp). Bananas, orange juice are good for leg cramps.

For the blackout stuff, eat more salt. Drink a V8 or tomato juice, that'll help.

  12. HRm Box syas 3g fat, 8g Protien, and 23 carbs (7 of which are fiber).

Yeah...that's an instance of where it varies for everybody. Plant based protein, for whatever reason, does not work for me. Especially oatmeal, but thinking back, that was probably due to celiac.

    Err Apples dont count?

Tons of fruit sugar. I guess it does have fiber in it though... I tend to pack my lunches in a protein-> veggie-> fruit-> carb (ie crackers) fashion.

Yea I think I am finding that to, was hoping the 10g of protien in them would mean somthing...

One would think. I think all the flipping sugar and simple carbs make up for the protein in them <_<

I ws on some meds at one time that was cuasing me to loose wieght at a dangerous rate and I drank 1 to 2 Boost Ultra's a day PLUS eat alot more to stablize. Dont recall it bothering me then... but who knows now I guess. I thought they would be to carby?

I've had the high protein one, that's the one that made me sick, actually. You could try that, but the regular stuff would at least help to supplement if you're out of food supply and starting to crash.

  13. I had cook-out too...

Other than that, how about gluten-free beauty supplies?

Smoothie and ice cream recipes for the dog days of summer?

The art of gluten-free online shopping?

    Celiac celebrities?

    History of celiac?

gluten-free in collegiate and/or work situations?

Celiac-friendly cocktails (inc. the distillation process)?

  14. Still struggling a bit... heres what I did today...

First meal serving of ceral (26 carbs), couple oz of milk and 1/4th pound hamburge with cheese

Second breakfast - bowl of oat bran + cininnmon and splenda

next meal couple of apples and salad and 2 HB eggs

By this point Im staring to get very sleepy, and free bad. I ate 2 more of the SB Bars, and check my sugar whenn I gto home, it was fiarly low.. but still safe. I cant remeber what I ate since then. but tommorow is food shoopipng day so options limited

Some days I feel like I got it down.. and others I am sure Im missing somthing...

    First meal: good

Second meal: where's the protein? That meal would have lasted me about 30 mins

Next meal: where's the carbs? Throw some triscuits or other hearty cracker or something and you're good. (also, for what it's worth, eggs don't last long for me)

SB bars: full of sugar, lasts me about 30 mins, if that, often work on my blood sugar the same way a candy bar does

No worries, you're still in a learning phase. Can you handle boost or ensure? Those might help you. I can't seem to tolerate them, too much casein at once, I think.

  15. Thanks, I'll just call the company to be sure. While y'all were dying your hair funny colors I was getting tatoos. In the 70's if you were female and had a tatoo you were either a sailor or a prostitute. Boy have times changed. Ah to be young now they have so much more fun options in clothes and hair.

I got a tattoo when I was 17 on the small of my back, swirly thing with a blue butterfly above it. It's very "I'm 17 with a cute tattoo". My mom had to sign for it, and she did so only under the condition that I never get my tounge pierced. The lady that did it used to be my boss - when I was 14 I babysat her son in the shop every day after school. I know a lot about tattoos and piercings :P

Luckily, I forget it's there unless I look for it

I was just thinking yesterday about how that's going to look in the nursing home 60 years from now. I guess I won't be the only one...

I think that was just after the pink hair phase... I think I did green or blue kool-aid once and it didn't work, and I had bleached hair. I also used prell with the pink stuff in, it didn't strip the color out, I don't think. Not totally anyway.
