I hope you get better soon! I had cellulitis in March when I failed to metabolize mold spores from intradermal allergy testing. Luckily, I caught it really fast, because I woke up one morning with a pulsing bullseye on my arm

Remember to try and eat some yogurt or something while you're on the antibiotics, those potent ones really do a number on your system! I think I'm finally recovering from those antibiotics, and the prednisone. I can still see the needle pinprick site!

Good luck at the dr, many hugs and healing vibes your way! :)

Oh good Judy- I'm glad the doctor felt things were improving. Mine was localized to my foot so I didn't feel tired but very sore.

But your infection site sounds much larger and it's a nasty infection so I'm not surprised you are wiped out. Put your head down and rest your weary eyes! Hugs and prayers, Beverly

thanks patti for the phone support today.

dr called today and happy that the color is getting lighter and the fever is staying normal or below. said to expect the extreme fatigue and exhaustions will probably last 2 more weeks. Keep leg elevated and only lower as symptoms start to fade. so looks like it's going to be at least this long to start feeling even slightly norma....as least more info...how long did it take you folks who posted to feel better..aside from the leg pain?

The MRI showed the new shoulder blade myxoma (tumor) has grown and envolved the shoulder causing it to become frozen.

Appreciate all your posts. Enjoy feeling part of things when i get up and see your sweet posts.

Thanks again.

Hi Judy- Still sending thoughts paryers and hugs your way! It took about two weeks for my infection to clear up but that was because I didn't stay off my feet (my sister went into labor so my infection got worse at first instead of better).

Just take your time and do what thedoc says. I'm glad it's getting beter. (((((((((((Hugs)))))))))))), Beverly

I was pretty tired for a few days when I had cellulitis--and that was when I was in my 20's and energetic!

Sorry to hear about the tumor--frozen shoulder is no fun. :( Can they do anything about the tumor? Shrink it,or zap it with something

Hey, Judy, I figured out how to get it to print bigger--is this easier for you to read?

Judyin Philly Enthusiast

FF___wow there you go girlfriend..

Actually Jim has now configured ours to rec'v all incoming mail and forum posts in the large print.

i appreciate the effort tho..that's why on here when i post i do in caps (on a bad days) and my spelling and all is so horrid...but ...people are bearing with me...

still praying for you surgery on Thurs...No the tumors are everywhere not just this one. been dealing with them since 1973,,,all the surgeons i like keep leaving and going to CA  because of medical malpractice insurance here but know you know about that.

have to get off and leg up

Thanks all those who posted it was so nice to be remembered when your down.

I am glad to hear your progress report and now I know that I don't have to enlarge my type when I email you. Can Jim come to Arizona and do that to my computer - he he. That is pretty crappy about the shoulder. I know you deal with all those tumors on a daily basis, but a frozen shoulder is not a good thing for a gardener. Many Hugs and prayers for your continued recovery.

So glad things are beginning to improve. I'm praying for rest and a break from pain and illness for you. Let me know what happens with your shoulder. Will talk soon--will write you my NYC summary soon and try to put in a few pics :) PS: Love the new kitty pic too...

HI, MY HUsband had this 2 years ago. It's serious so stay on top of it.

You may need to find another hospital that can give you IVs you can tolerate.

No puncture wound was found but they said it could be as much as an infected hair.

He had to be opened up and packed with guaze. An inch a day was pulled out. It was

the most horrible smell and very painful for him. Be very careful and go get a second opinion.

good luck.

Judyin Philly Enthusiast

HI AGAIN--STILL DOING BETTER BUT  EHXHAUSTED...WENT TO CHIRO DR TODAY AT 5:00 AND SHE THOUGHT IT LOOKED BETTER. WENT OVER THE MRI OF THE SHOULDER AND DID A RANGE OF MOTION TEST ON EACH ARM AND OF COURSE THE RIGHT WAS FINE BUT SHE WAS SHOCKED WITH THE NO RANGE IN LEFT...CAN ONLY PUT IT LOWERER AROUND THE BACK AT THE WAIST.

SHE EXPLAINED THERE WERE 2 TUMORS.

ONE THE MUSCLE ACROSS THE TOP OF THE BONE ON THE SHOULDER THAT RUNS TO THE SHOULDER IS WHAT'S CAUSING THE LOSS OF UPPER WARD MOTION.

THE SECOND ONE IS AT THE EDGE OF THE SHOULDER JOINT...

I SURE DON'T KNOW THE NAMES OF THEM BUT SHE'S COMING UP WITH A PLAN OF ATTACK AND I SEE HER AGAIN ON FRI.

SHES GETTING THE DISKS AND THEN SHOWING THEM TO ME ON THE COMPUTER...I FEEL RELEIVED..

SHE SAID TO FORGET IT FOR NOW...AND I SURE AM.

JUST CONCENTRATING ON KEEPING LEG UP .IT'S SO HARD TO DO OR ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING WHEN THIINGS ON YOUR LAP AND LEG HIGHER...

ANY PT PEOPLE OUT THERE...ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS OTHER THAN MOIST HEAT ON THE LEG?

ENJOY READING YOUR POSTS...THANKS.

judy- i'm so sorry that you have been through so much pain and illness lately.

The only advice I can give you is the best advice someone gave me at the hardest time in my life- DON'T FORGET TO BREATHE!!!!

We love you and are rooting for you every inch of the way. Wish I could hug you in person

Fiddle-Faddle Community Regular

Breathing--great advice!

Also--chicken soup! You need chicken soup! Preferably made with a Kosher chicken , lots of onions, carrots, a sweet potato, parsnip, dill, and parsley(hey, my grandma didn't call it, "Jewish Penicillin for nuthin'!").

Can your husband chop some of that up and throw it in the crockpot for you?

Failing that, I think Kitchen Basics chicken stock (sold in cardboard containers) are gluten-free. They havea website and a 1-800 phone number.

Sending you lots of good vibes!!!!

AMEN!!! The easiest way to do the soup thing is to get bone-in chicken breasts so you get extra stocky stock, just pull out the icky bits after it's done. My mom practically gave us the Jewish Penicillin intravenously when we were sick...

A hot toddy might not be bad for you either, a little whiskey, tea, lemon, and honey might make you feel a bit better too. Always works for me!

And gatorade!!!

Feel better! :)

Aw hon, I wish I had some advice for you, but like I told you in the e-mail, all I've got is {{{{{{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} I've never had cellulitis and hope I never do, sounds awful.

Rest Elevate and Heat... sounds like a good plan to me... although, I don't know if it would help or hurt, so please ask your Dr. if they think that ICE packs would help. (RICE is the pt motto I usually stick to... Rest Ice Compression Elevation) but I don't think that would apply in this situation. So please ask your Dr. if they think ice packs might help, if they don't think so then completely disregard that suggestion!

Guest Robbin

:) Judy, I just read this tonight and am shocked at how sick you have been. I had cellulites about 4 yrs ago from a green head fly bite on a NJ beach. My leg swelled so bad I could feel swishing when I would walk from the fluid. I was exhausted a good month after the healing, but that was before dx and I was still eating gluten so my prayer is for a speedy recovery for you and the shoulder too. You have been through enough already.

FYI--My son bought a mouse for my computer that has a magnifier on it. I don't think it was very expensive if anyone has vision problems, it is really helpful.

GET WELL SOON!!! ALL OF US ARE PRAYING FOR YOU!!!!!

Judyin Philly Enthusiast

I'M ALIVE---IT'S BEEN ONE WEEK AND ONE DAY...AND I'M BETTER.

THE ANKLE AND FOOT WERE 4 TIMES THE SIZE YESTERDAY BUT LEG BETTER. TODAY THE SWELLING LOOKED GOOD AND GOT UP AND GOT SOME FOOD WITH THE PILL AND BY THE TIME I WAS DONE THE SWELLING WAS BACK..BUT IT'S HOPEFUL NOW.

I KNOW IT WAS YOUR PRAYERS AND THE LORD HELPING ME ACCEPT THE' THINGS I CAN NOT CHANGE'

IT'S BEEN ALMOST 2 WEEKS OF FADING IN AND OUT OF SLEEP AND PILLS & 'FOOT OVER HEAD' AND NOT AN EASY POSITION FOR SOME ONE MY SIZE OR MOBILITY LIMITATIONS.

I'VE MISSED MY GARDEN BUT SINCE IT'S WHERE I GOT THIS...NO AS MUCH :)

STILL HAVE TO STAY OFF IT AND ELEVATE IT HIGHER THAN HEART BUT I'M AM HOPE FULL

ALSO THINK I POSTED THE DVT SHOWED I DID NOT HAVE A BLOOD CLOT SO THAT WAS GOOD.

WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU GUYS..GETTING KINDA ANTSY IN THE HOUSE FOR ALMOST 2 WEEKS BUT AT LEAST THE SUN IS SHINNING.

THANKS FOR BEING THERE FOR ME.

Hey Judy- Just wanted to say a quick hello and I'm glad things are improving- keep on healing!!!!!!! Hugs, Beverly

Hi, Judy,

Hope you keep improving. Never underestimate the healing power of a good laugh--rent some funny movies!

Most of the movies I like tend to be either old, old-fashioned, ormade for kids, but here are some that I just love:

Singin in the Rain

Hook (sequel to Peter Pan with Robin Williams as a grown-up Peter Pan who has forgotten his past)

Finding Nemo

Monsters, Inc (wonderful film!)

Toy Story

Toy Story II

When Harry Met Sally

You've Got Mail

The 39 Steps (1930's Alfred Hitchcock--very funny)

The Lady Vanishes (ditto)

North By Northwest

Notorious (not a comedy, a thriller, but I can't resist Cary Grant!)

The Sound of Music (sing along--it'll lift your spirits!)

Oklahoma

Anything with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers

Anything with Robin Williams

You can also find TV series on DVD now. My mother (of all people) sent me "Sex and the City," and it's hilarious, and you can find "I Love Lucy" and "Dick Van Dyke", too. My kids love "Jonny Quest!"

Hope something on here will bring you smiles!

Hugs,

Alison

NEED PRAYERS AGAIN...JUDY IN PHILLY

ROBIN SENT ME A SWEET NOTE AND PM'D HER AND THOUGHT I'D BETTER POST HERE SO YOU ALL COULD GATHER THE 'PRAYER TROOPS'..I NEED FOR EMOTIONAL AND PHYSICAL HEALING....

I'M JUST GOING TO DO A CUT AND PASTE OF WHAT I WROTE BACK TO ROBBIN --BEAR WITH THE MISSPELLING PLEASE.

Robbin,

you are so dear.....

NO, SOORY NOT BETTER NOW...sitting here crying my eyes out with your sweet post..wanted to go on forum and tell everyone i'm better but after going off anti. mONDAY AM the temp went up and swelling back..

went to chiro this AM and she said I was not as good as Fri. It was really good then and she was so encouraged, so was I.

A friend who is Nsg Asst. was in the office too and she and i worked together at the hospital so chiro called her in to look at leg.

She's also the head of diabetes center of major hosptial here and used to seeing celluitis They decided i needed to see internist.

....so went and sat in my internists office w/o apt and he saw me after all patients went home...bless him...he put me back on the antib again..and i have to get a pressure stocking for the left leg. Dr said it helped another pt with this awhile ago and i should try it.

so it will be foot over head for 10 more days 24/7

since this is the only antib i can take he's worried about C diff.....know Rachel has talked about that but it's this or nothing or the hospital...so what choice do i have.

Was to go be with hubby at end of year picnic for his birding group and he went alone and he was fine with it ...but...not what i planned for our retirement days of free and happy traveling..but.....NOT IN HOSPITAL...SO COUNT MY BLESSINGS.

OK, TOOK ANTIBO 1/2 AGO AND CAN LAY DOWN NOW (and did now almost 7:00 PM) and the swelling looks better.

BUT COULD SURE USE SOME PRAYERS...PLEASE,,,,,MY FRIENDS OUT THERE ...HELP ME HEAL...

LOVE TO YOU ROBBIN AND ALL THE REST WHO HAVE BEEN PRAYING FOR ME. I will be ck'n the forum as your emails really really help me emotionally. Don't want to whine here...hey, not in hospital, so that's a plus. I'll keep short posts up. what would i do without you all.:huh:

Awww, Judy, wht a bummer!

Question: Did they do any kind of culture of the pus or whatever is in the swelling so that they know EXACTLY what bacteria they are dealing with here? And did they have you on IV antibiotics?

When I had cellulitis 17 years ago, I came to the ER at quite an early stage (because I was out of town and it was my only health care choice), and I was IMMEDIATELY hooked up to IV antibiotics. I was very surprised at this (and worried about the expense, too), and asked why they didn't just send me home with a prescription, and was told that the IV antibiotics were the only way to deal with cellulitis. After 3 hours on the IV, THEN I was sent home with a prescription!

Anyway, hang in there! It's only 10 days, and then you'll be able to enjoy summer!

When they give you a blood test, there's a range they consider low to high from the results.  It's not based on how much vitamin you're taking.  My blood tests were low and then I took 5000 IU and they went too high on the blood test.  I also get exposed to D from the sun and I live in a very sunny area and I get D in some foods I eat.  I was very annoyed with the doctors because they weren't paying attention to the blood test results in order to help me figure out the optimum dose for me.  They just told me to take it when it was low on the blood test and didn't pay any attention after that.  Too much of a good thing is not a good a thing.  I hope the medical field knows enough to really know what the safe range is.  However, I would not go by just intake or sun exposure since how much each person can absorb is different.  That's why I wanted actual testing to determine my levels. Also, interesting points, about the choline.  I just saw some information about it yesterday and was thinking I'd better check if I'm getting the RDA.  This is the second mention I've seen on this in two days, so maybe the universe is trying to tell me something. If I get cramps in my feet, salt usually helps with it.  It usually means my electrolyte levels are off somehow.  I bought some electrolyte water from Sprouts.  I also try to add salt (Himalayan or sea) to my meals.  I always hear cut out salt from medical professionals.  I don't think they realize that when you make things from scratch and eat unprocessed foods, you've probably cut out a lot of the salt in an average American diet.  It can be easy to be too low on salt if you make things yourself. I've read selenium is important to balance iodine intake and one shouldn't have too much of one and not enough of the other.

How high is too high?  I take 10,000 IU vitamin D3 every day.  My blood is stable at 80 ng/ml (200 nmol/L).  Even at 10,000 a day it took 8 years to raise it to 80.  Higher levels of 25(OH)D in blood can moderate the autoimmune attack.  Vitamin D Is Not as Toxic as Was Once Thought Lower vitamin D levels have also been associated with increased OCD symptom severity.  This is a most dangerous popular belief. As mentioned you are suffering from vitamin and mineral deficiencies.  Part of the recovery, that is never explained by doctors, is replenishing your deficits.  Celiac Disease is a disease of malabsorption.  The Western diet is a diet of deficiency.  That is why many processed foods are fortified.  Gluten free foods are exempt.   "I’ve been completely asymptomatic since diagnosis."  There are 200 symptoms that can be caused by Celiac Disease and the malabsorbtion it can cause.     • "Floating, undigested stools for over a year now. Dont think its related to celiac as it was like this since im 17 and not 13-16( i got diagnosed at 13). " Many are misdiagnosed as gall bladder disease.  Choline is needed to create the bile salts needed to digest fat.  90% of our population is deficient.  Eggs and beef are the best source.  The RDA (minimum daily allowance is 500 mg to 3500 mg daily.  One egg has 27% DV.  Broccoli, chopped, boiled, drained, ½ cup only has 7%.  Low choline can cause Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease.   Choline and Risk of Neural Tube Defects in a Folate-fortified Population; Could we be overlooking a potential choline crisis in the United Kingdom?;   Choline was formerly called vitamin B4.  I prefer phoshphatidyl choline for supplementation as it is the form we get in food.   • Chronic back pain started gradually, worsens with movement, lots of cracking/popping sounds.  Vitamin D deficiency may be linked to chronic back pain, But I took levothyroxine for slightly low FT4 levels.  I supplement Iodine by taking Liquid Iodine.  50 mcg per drop.  The RDA is 150 mcg to 1000 mcg in the US.  In Japan it is 150 mcg to 3000 mcg.  I take 600 mcg a day. Since 1970 the intake of iodine has decreased in the US by 50%.  Hypothyroidism has increased 50%.  Insufficient iodine leads to the thyroid gland working harder to produce these hormones, and if it cannot keep up, hypothyroidism can develop, according to the Mayo Clinic.   Iodine Insufficiency in America: The Neglected Pandemic.   I see improvement in muscle tone, healing, brain fog since taking the Liquid Iodine.  I could not eat enough seaweed. B1 stops the cramps in my feet B6 speeds up gastric empying and works on my freezing toes at night.  250 mg several times a day sometimes.  Also seems to be helping bowel regularity. 5 mg Lithium Orotate helped me with overthinking.   10,000 IU vitamin D to control autoimmune, mental health. 500 mg Thiamine - neurologic symptoms 500 mg Nicotinic Acid - increase capillary blood flow 500 mg Pantothenic Acid - creates energy from glucose Krebs Cycle 1000 mcg B12 - creates hemoglobin for oxygen transport 500 mg Taurine - essential amino acid, a powerful antioxident that we make indogenously so it is officially labeled "Conditional Essential" as Choline used to be, but not enough when sickness increases inflammation. reduces Reactivite Oxygen Species (ROS are are free radicals.). 840 mg Phosphatidly Choline x 3 - essential for fat digestion, gall bladder, liver, brain fog, cell membranes, prevent congenital spinal defects (along with B6, B12, folate, Taurine. Iodine - muscle tone, testosterone, hyper and hypo thyroid, slow healing.  600 mcg of Liquid Iodine.  Sometimes twice a day, usually added to a drink.

I completely understand the frustration of finding reliable gluten-free ingredients—it's exhausting when trusted products disappear or companies don't respond to safety inquiries. For teff flour in bulk, check out Azure Standard or Bulk Foods; both often carry gluten-free grains in larger quantities and clearly label dedicated facilities. For soy flour, Anthony's Goods tests for gluten and offers bulk options, though always verify their current certifications. For beans, peas, and lentils, Palouse Brand is a great choice—they're GFCO-certified and transparent about their farming practices. As for lentil elbow macaroni, Explore Cuisine offers similar pastas, though cross-contact policies vary. When companies don't respond, I lean on third-party certifications (GFCO, NSF) or stick with brands like Jovial or Edward & Sons that prioritize allergen safety. It's a constant hunt, but hopefully these leads help! Have you tried local co-ops or ethnic markets for teff? Sometimes they stock bulk African or Indian brands with clear labeling.

Beans in desserts are a fantastic way to add moisture, structure, and protein while keeping recipes gluten-free. Black bean brownies are a classic, but other beans like adzuki and pinto can also work well—adzuki beans are naturally sweet and often used in Asian desserts, making them great for cookies or cakes. Lentils, especially red lentils, blend smoothly into batters and can replace flour in recipes like blondies or muffins. Since you’re allergic to chickpeas, you might try navy beans or cannellini beans for a milder flavor in vanilla-based desserts. For less crumbliness, blending cooked beans into a paste helps bind the dough, and adding a bit of xanthan gum (if tolerated) can improve texture. If you’re experimenting, start with recipes that replace half the flour with bean purée before going fully flourless. Have you tried using aquafaba (bean liquid) as an egg substitute? It works wonders in gluten-free baking too!

This may make you feel better about cross-contamination: https://nationalceliac.org/celiac-disease-questions/do-i-need-new-designated-pans-plates-and-utensils/ https://theceliacscene.com/rethinking-cross-contamination-no-need-to-be-so-careful/ I use Tom's of Maine or a toothpaste that states it's gluten free.  I have allergic reactions to some toothpastes so some of the toothpastes in health food stores are usually safer for me. They're typically gluten free as well. Spices can contain cross-contamination from gluten.  There are a few lists online of spices that are safe for celiacs.  I also grow my own herbs and use them in place of store bought when I can.  I think Badia lists their spices as gluten free and Spice Lab has some gluten free too. Knitty Kitty has a great point about nutritional deficiencies and B vitamins.  I got a lot of aches and pains when I got off gluten.  I tried to replace wheat with other healthy grains like teff, buckwheat and sorghum.  Limiting one's diet too much and not getting enough vitamins, can make someone feel worse.  A lot of the gluten free foods in the stores are made with lower quality ingredients than the wheat varieties.  I try to replace all my foods with homemade options.  Then I know the quality of the ingredients and which vitamins I may be high or low in.  Probiotics or prebiotics can help with bathroom issues.  Better to get them in foods if possible and not pill form.  My doctors keep recommending magnesium too.  It's not supposed to be taken alone, but they don't seem to care about that.  It's easy for vitamin D to be low too.  That was another thing doctors told me to take.  Unfortunately, they didn't monitor it and it went too high.  Again, better from natural sources like food and sunlight.  However, supplementing can help if you're not getting enough.  Some sources say to take D with K2.  You may want to have iodine levels checked.  If you add iodine, make sure to get sufficient selenium for thyroid.  You can get iodine naturally in most seaweed.  Nori may also be one of the few non-animal sources for B12.  Brazil nuts are a good source of selenium and you only need a few a day to meet RDA.  Some brands of nuts specifically say gluten free.  Unfortunately, there are issues with Brazil nut production and they're much harder to find this year. The more you can vary your diet the better.  One study said aim for at least 30 different foods in a week.  You might want to try kiwi fruit.  There were some studies that said eating kiwi improved mood.  It also has a covering which most people don't eat, so that should protect what's inside from contamination. I've limited my diet quite a bit over the years because of migraines, so I know how uncomfortable it can be finding safe foods.  However, I'm afraid limiting diets like that may actually be causing more harm than good.  It's something I'm trying to work on.  I keep trying to expand the number of foods I eat and my recipe repertoire.  I made a list of brands of foods that I've found that are gluten free so I have a guide when I'm shopping.
