  1. I generally don't have a dairy problem, unless I chug a whole glass of milk. It normally does not bother me, especially if it's cultured like cheese or yogurt. The pudding may have upset me, I don't know. I'm not sure tapioca agrees with me entirely. Usually the only time I have a problem with dairy is after being glutened.

    I probably am just sick, although I'm not digesting. That's important to mention I guess. Garbage in, garbage out, looking the same at either point. I didn't have the neuro symptoms of glutening that I normally do. Probably just sick. It's so easy to blame everything on gluten, isn't it?

    What sucks is that I have to be in a wedding this weekend 9 hours away. I better be better by then! there is a silver lining, though. Maybe loosing a couple of pounds like I am this week will make me look like less of a fudgesicle in the dang bridesmaid dress :rolleyes:

  2. For the last two days, I've been SICK. I hugged a heating pad to my stomach so I could sleep, took bentyl, 3 tylenol to keep the pain at bay. I've had D, been nauseated, and got up in the middle of the night both nights with D. I'm exhausted, weak, and nauseated after everything I eat. I seem to get D after every meal as well.

    I'm gluten-free, what's the deal?! All of my personal products are gluten-free, and I didn't eat out and I don't know what the deal is. I've been gluten-free ~4 months now.

    I'm thinking that since I got symptoms at night the last two nights, it had to be with dinner.

    Sunday: Pot roast made in Lipton onion soup, garlic, beef, and safeway frozen stew veggies. Gravy made with clabber girl cornstrch. Had Kozy Shack tapioca pudding for dessert.

    Monday: Shepard's pie (cottage pie if you want to be technical) made with leftover meat and gravy, safeway frozen peas and carrots, and Idahoan premium potato flakes (milk, butter, lemon pepper). Had Kozy Shack tapioca pudding for dessert.

    The only new thing were the frozen veggies. Adam didn't get sick, so it wasn't food poisioning.

    I have to work until 9 tonight, we have an event. I can't get out of it because my boss and I are the only ones running it. Help. What happened?

    Pay special attention to posts number 30 & 33.

    After I read post # 30, I decided to do my own research into the alcohol distillation process via an expert (a molecular biologist specalizing in protiens - which is what gluten is, a protien). The molecular biologist in question is a friend of mine & would definitly tell me the truth, as getting me sick would have a very bad effect on his best friend's life. (His best friend is my husband, and when I am sick, I am too sick to work - if I don't work, we make less money).

    Just thought you might like to know what he said...

    It's a personal decision and if you react to it, don't ingest it, regardless of the cause.

    As long as we're throwing out scientist connections, my husband is a chemical engineer, and those are the people that acutally work in the frontlines of the plants that make the alcohol. They design the plants and often help with formulations. After talking to him, and a number of other ChemE's, they that distillation *should* remove the gluten, because the gluten protein is too big for the process. If there's gluten in it, it's more likely that some of the mash was added back in AFTER the distillation process, and not from distillation itself.

    Also keep in mind that most scientists will never make a definitive statement, and there is a lot of room for interpretation.

    Bottom line - If it makes you sick, don't eat/drink/ingest it.

  4. I would guess that this nails it exaclty. But add in to it he gilt of not getting you all taken care of as kids properly... its a somewhat irrational guilt that any parent would understnad, but most childern dont.

    I'm pretty sure that with my mom it is concern that I have something life long that could potentially be life threatening. She knows I have a problem with gluten, she's just hoping it's just an intolerance, not celiac. I would eat anything as a child but had a "sensitive stomach" after my brother and sister both went away to school and I got stomachaches all the time. I had a massive workup and they said it was stress, or that I was doing it for attention. My mom was a nurse and has always taken very good care of us, and didn't take illness lying down. In fact, since she lost a child she is especially over protective and wary of incompetent drs. I don't think it's a guilt thing. We all had workups and nothing was ever found. Well, except for me and the celiac.

    My mom's getting tested at her next checkup, but she doesn't eat much gluten. She said it used to aggrivate her arthritis before she got her knees replaced :rolleyes: So she got out of the habit. She still confuses me :rolleyes:

    They don't need 5 different vials, they just need a few drops for each antibody test, so they strech out the sample. I only had one vial and had all 5 tests done.

    It's like when you get a complete blood count they don't take 50 vials, they just use one vial to test for everything.

  6. you know im thinking maybe i do have tapeworms the more i think about it, that ribbon thing that looked like a piece of tape was one sign and you say that rice like things can be eggs, well for the past 3 days tones of white pellets have been in my stools and i have not eaten rice for about 2 weeks.... hmmmmm could tapeworms cause all of my symptoms

    brainfog

    stomic pains/ gurgles/ poping noises

    fatigue

    weight loss????

    Parasites can cause all of those things. People used to die because in the early 1900's someone came up with a diet pill full of tapeworm eggs! :o

    Sure, you have an insatiable appetite, but you're starving to death.

    Make sure you write a list of all of your problems before seeing the dr.

  7. I was talking to my mom on Saturday, and in the same conversation she went from "I wonder if that store in Brooklyn has any good gluten-free stuff for you" to "you probably don't have celiac and you'll grow out of it"

    She tells me that both her and my sister had the same types of GI problems that I do (although my symptoms are apparently worse) in their 20's and they grew out of them. Stomach pain, D, etc. She says is due to your 20's being a very stressful time, and they both just grew out of it. OK, nevermind that mom is extraordinarily sensitive to artificial sweeteners, and my sister still gets stomachaches from cokes and other things, and is hypoglycemic like me.

    And my brother, when he was little, would suddenly get up, go to the bathroom, throw up, and then come back to the couch and eat popcorn or whatever. I'll note that I do this as well, although its usually in the middle of the night. I'll get up, go throw up, and go back to bed.

    Call me crazy, but I'm not sure any of that is normal...

    I'm seeing a pattern here...

    She's trying to push me into getting a lower GI series, colonoscopy, etc to see what's really wrong with me. She said I probably just have a non-celiac gluten intolerance. I said the only problem with that is that I had antibodies :rolleyes:

    Make up your mind, woman! :huh:

I'd give them a more technical description, but really, if you want to get the desired results you might say your child develops projectile vomiting and immediate explosive diarrhea... that'd proabbly serve as a deterrent.... :D Of course, this is assuming that your child isn't old enough to correct you. :P

    If the kids do correct you, say "Oh, you never remember dear because gluten poisioning makes you have amnesia(or seizure, out of body experience, demonic possession, or what ever tickles your fancy that way)" :P

No you couldnt say i am skinny but i did loose dramatic weight this past month, before going to the doctor for the first time and before i got sick i was 289 pounds now i am 195-197 not sure the exact weight so i lost almost 100 pounds in one month, not sure if this was because of beeing sick for so long, or from not eating, or just from rapade change in my diet since i used to eat burger king 3 meals a day because i work there and its free... im still loosing a average of a pound to 2 pounds a day lately

    That's definitely not healthy, and just starving yourself couldn't cause that in a month! The max amount of healthy weight to lose in a month is what? 12 lbs for an average person? Maybe 20 for a larger person? Yikes! I hope you get some answers!!! :blink:

  10. so your saying they can only see the damage with a biopsy so are my doctors lying to me when he said he could see stuff with my GI or does that meen i have tones of damage? he said subsarin folds in my small intestines.

    I don't know what that means. Unless you have advanced celiac disease, it's not likely he'd see it through the upper GI alone. Actually, even if your intestines look like linoleum I don't know how he'd see celiac damage. To see the villous atrophy, biopsies of the villi must be analyzed with a microscope.

    About your blood test, if you've been gluten-free for 2 weeks, it will likely skew the results. I'd reschedule the blood test for a few weeks from now and eat all the gluten in that time that you possibly can.

  11. as for the biopsy i have not had one done so i cant answer that, only things i have had done is a upper GI so far and a catscan, gi is where the found what they think is a sign of celiac, and im having blood work done tomorrow

    but as for the blood work from what i have read its impossible to have a false positive but its easy to get a false negative

    oh and welcome to the community

    You've been gluten free for two weeks, right? That will probably yield a negative result, you have to be eating gluten to create antibodies...

  12. ok so i have to admit i have been analizing my movements alot lately always looking down as they have been very green lately with lots of mucus, but today there was something else in it, ( this is where it gets gross) so i grabbed the gloves my doctor gave me * he wants me to examine my stools for some reason* and i pulled out what litarly looks like a piece of thin tape, like film or something it was really really wierd could this be a tape worm? it is white slightly green but i think that was just from the movement, i was originaly thinking it was lettice but lettice would not be such a perfect strip like that, like it looked like a water test strip but clearish

  13. you've mentioned that you are having a hard time digesting. you might want to consider enzymes (read the lable make sure they don't have lactase if you're giving up dairy) and an enteric coated probiotic. these will help you loads in the digestion, fatigue, gas area. also put in some b6 & b12, which will be lacking if your gut bacteria is not in balance.

    hang in there it will get better

    Lactase is the enzyme produced by the ends of your villi to digest lactose, the sugar in milk. Lactase itself does not contain anything dairy, and is fine in supplements.

    I've gotten up in the middle of the night to eat something, but it's rare. I usually drink milk in those instances, because I can't stand to eat. Normally my blood sugar is pretty level by nighttime, and I usually snack so it's not a problem for me. Different for everyone.

    For example: Once I spend half an hour looking for my keys. I looked high, I looked low, and I was half an hour late for work. You know where I finally found my keys? IN MY HAND! Top that. :blink:

    I did it again!

    Yesterday morning I went to the store before work to get some chips (healthy, I know) and I stood outside my car in a near panic that I locked the keys in the car. They were in my friggin' hand. I think the peroxide is just seeping in :rolleyes:
