welp its been umm 3 hours or so since breakfast and Im starving, my stomach is hurting, and Im sleepy. So looking at the bag of food my wife made for me (after she read this thread) gueess I'll try the banana and peanutbutter.
This is so stupid, its like im afaird to eat any more.
Sorry you still feel crappy.
You'll figure it out. Small meals more often are probably your best bet, and you may not feel better right away. You also haven't been eating much period, so getting back up to a reasonable calorie level might be hard. I know I'm the one that suggested the oj, but maybe it's too acidic for you right now?

Ive suspect blood sugar for a while cause of near-passout episodes (gotten very light headed and imdeadilty found my self eating rasins, sometimes eat half a can before I come too...) but my luck with answers from tests has been well non-existant.
The body has a way of using cravings to get what it needs. Your body knows you like raisins, and that they have sugar, so when the body needs sugar badly, you crave raisins. That's fine, for a quick fix, but ideally, get protein in you quick after that. Eat a spoonful of real (
) peanut butter, eat a tuna sandwich, whatever you gotta do or you'll keep going up and down.
I keep the squeezy skippy around for travel, especially when I don't trust the local utensils

Well couple months ago I took an AC1 blood test and it was normal. I dont recall the number, I think it was 5, so that pretty much rules out diabeate from what I understand.
There are two types of hypoglycemia. Reactive and fasting, and those are the two types that occur in people without diabetes.
In reactive hypoglycemia, you get symptoms a few hours after eating. In fasting hypoglycemia, you wake up hypoglycemic. Fasting hypoglycemia is thought of as pre-diabetic.
I am reactive. I can go until noon without eating and be fine, but I can eat at 7am and be starving to death by 10am. (BTW: I ALWAYS eat breakfast. Screws me for the rest of the day if I don't, because then I do nothing but snack!)
Much more detailed information is here Open Original Shared Link
As we all know from our celiac disease testing, tests aren't always accurate. Besides, if they tested your blood sugar when you weren't having symptoms, it's going to come out normal. That's why when they test for it, you go in fasting, you drink glucose syrup, and see how long it takes you to crash, if you crash at all. They test your blood sugar at that time in increments.

Umm fats, carbs, and proteins all convert to glucose, just at different rates. glucose is the only fuel your cells can use. Soooo not sure what your saying?
When you're hypoglycemic, you process the glucose too quickly. Think of it as a campfire. You can start a fire with pine needles, but it'll burn out really quickly. You need slower burning fuel, like a dry log.
Think of raisins as pine needles, and peanut butter as a dry log. They both burn up the same way, but they do it at different speeds.
OK, so the analogy isn't perfect, but the idea is there.
Fasting will make your blood sugar bottom out, and you'll have even worse symptoms. Right now, your diet is made up primarily of simple carbs. Pine needles. You need more logs.
The apple brings up the blood sugar, and the peanut butter helps keep it there since it burns more slowly. Does that make any sense?

Definitely don't fast! If you're hypoglycemic, it'll make you sicker and turn you into a monster. I know that a hypoglycemic episode, especially a bad one, turns me into a shrew. Can I get an amen?
Passing out isn't so fun, eat something!
Personally, I would make the ratio agoal to attain over time . It's not a cut-and-dried thing like being gluten-free. Everyone is different, and the ratios are a guideline. Personally, I use an even less ratio of carbs because they make me feel crappy, and years of having my mom cram an egg or cheese down my throat when I was cranky and shakey has taught me to just strive for protein. Carbs and fat tend to occur naturally in our American diet, gluten-free or not. I, by the way, don't count my ratios, and never have. Like having other restrictions, it becomes automatic and you learn what you can do.
One thing I like to do is have peanut butter on corn thins or rice cakes. Skippy makes a sqeezable peanut butter and rice cakes are easy to keep around. A decent breakfast is peanut butter on a couple of rice cakes/corn cakes and orange juice. You get carbs from the cakes and oj, and protein and fat from the peanut butter.
A diet conscious of hypoglycemia (I say that because you don't need a hypoglycemia diet) is one that strives for balance and that you make sure to eat more often. 5 to 6 small meals a day should be your target. Always carry snacks.
It's not something to stress too much over, just make sure you eat enough, often enough and the problem takes care of itself. You might want to look into foods with a low glycemic index, because those foods burn slower. Apples with peanut butter, for example, has a very low glycemic index. Hummus and veggies would be a good choice, also.

Celiac damage occurs in the small intestine, not the large intestine. Either your dr. doesn't know what he is talking about, or he has no intention of looking for celiac.
He must be looking for Chron's, it has a lot of similar symptoms to celiac. I've read gluten-free also helps Chron's.

I don't know how all natural it is, but Adidas makes a cotton based deoderant that is aluminum free. My best friend uses it and loves it, and most deoderants don't work well for her.

Eating a good breakfast in the morning is also essential
Your mid-morning snack might make you sick because your blood sugar was low anyway and the apple (and orange for that matter) is all sugar. I know that if my blood sugar is low eating sugar makes my stomach hurt.
You can have your cereal for breakfast if you must (I never eat it for breakfast, but usually as an after dinner snack), but make sure you eat some sausage or an egg or something to balance it out, and maybe some orange juice.

Here are the ingredients for Rolling Rock:
water, malt, rice, hops, corn, brewer's yeast
No wheat, surprisingly, but definitely barley.

When I get all shakey and stuff I crave rasins. I cant explain why, but I do... prehaps thats not the gest path?
Wonder what I can have around for a protien snack.. what about those shakes? Balanced meals are somthing i only dream of any more... with all the foods I aviod, meals are what I can find in a local dumpster it seems! (okay not extactly....
)
You crave raisins because of the sugar. There are a lot of foods that will get your blood sugar up in 10 minutes, but you have to eat real food soon after. Some of the things are a regular coke, a couple packets of sugar, hard candy, glucose tablets, orange juice...
Beef jerky works good for a protein snack. Some Bridgeford jerky is gluten-free, can be found at Wal Mart, but I don't know if it is cf.
Peanut butter works well.
Are you allergic to eggs or just the kiddo? Boiled eggs, perhaps?
I try not to eat tinkyada pasta too much, because it makes me crash not long after eating it.
If you have protein powder in the smoothies, those will work.
Meats are ok, right?

How would I know? Any test I can do (perferably with any docs, Im sick of seeing yet another doc... years go by... sigh)
Just foudn this on the NIH page for Hypoglycemia..
Ones in bold, fit. SO how do I know?? ug back to google...
I was thinking the same thing as Tiffany, that's a lot of carbs. Mostly simple carbs, at that.
There is a test that dr's can do where you drink a syrup after fasting and see how long it takes you for your blood sugar to run down.
My dr. refused to do it on me, because it's cruel. Hypoglycemic episodes are awful, especially when they're severe. I've been hypoglycemic since I was 12 or so.
The best way to know is when you get that sick feeling is to eat some protein or a balanced meal and see if you feel better. Caffene aggrivates low blood sugar as well.
It sucks to have to force yourself to eat when you're nauseated and otherwise feeling crappy, but you learn to do it.

Yes, I am feeling better, thanks
My eyes still itch but I'm keeping on those eye drops and the impetigo is almost gone (thank God)
Not wearing eye makeup yet
As my mom so kindly pointed out, I look like a rat without makeup. Blonde eyelashes. Can't wait! Have to buy all new stuff, I guess.
I had one of those weekends where EVERYTHING went wrong, but can't blame that on the pink eye
-
Don't know about the apples...
About the itchy oranges, I posted in your other thread about that. Being spring...I wouldn't be surprised if it was oral allergy.
The best allergy test for foods is an elimination diet, it sucks.

I went to the Dr. on Friday for pink eye and apparent impetigo and of course celiac came up. Before the pink eye actually...
Anyway. My former GI (idiot) finally sent my Dr. my records from two years ago. My Dr. was insulted when I called the guy an idiot, but then I explained that the only time I saw him was while I was unconscious and when I called about the nexium not working for the pain, his nurse said I was taking it wrong. Then my Dr. said, "ok, maybe you have a reason to call him an idiot."
She said that the endoscopy showed long term irritation in my stomach caused by too much stomach acid, which, over time could cause cancer. Great. So she said that I have to be on prilosec until further notice. She gave me a script at least, so it'll be cheaper since I can go mail order. It seems to work when I'm gluten-free, it didn't before, but at least I feel better with it, so far.
She also said that celiac disease is a "faddy diagnosis" right now. She also said she doesn't know if it's because the medical community is becoming more aware or if dr's don't like everyone having IBS. She also said it's probably because the more accurate blood tests make it easy for PCP's to test for, and the biopsy is falling out of the loop. She also says that she tests a lot for celiac disease, and only 1 out of 10 or so come back with funny bloodwork.
I'm not sure whether to feel confident in my dx or not, though she does appear to think that I'm celiac. I said that I was at a point where I don't feel *good* but that if I get gluten from cc that I feel much worse. She said, ok, it's helping but you're not at 100%.
I don't know what to think...
Maybe I'll do a weekend long gluten challenge this month and see what happens.

Has anyone had any bad luck with Vietnamese noodle soup (pho)? I ate some last night, thinking it had to be safe with clear broth, rice noodles, beef, and herbs... but man, I'm in the middle of a full-on gluten reaction now. :`-( Any ideas what might be the culprit? This reaction is more than a little cross-contamination, I think.
Some restaurants might pander to American tastes and use soy sauce with/instead of fish sauce. You always have to ask. Look for the owner to have a heavy accent and a clear dislike for wheat and everything wheat related
Sweet... I would love to eat in a restaurant that had no gluten and was relatively dairy free.I looked over the menu and the only dairy I could see was sweetened condensed milk in coffee and tea. Everything else seemed dairy free, unless I missed something.
I ate there 3 times last week! I'm going today for the SUPER YUMMY egg rolls!

UGH.
I think Im reacting to oranges too now. I have had NO gluten and NO dairy and NO apples and NO coffee... instead of the apple I bought suynkkis orranges. Ive suspected themin the past cause they make my lips tingly but I had the scratch test and had no reaction to them in that.
I have that reaction to nuts but it came up negative on the scratch tests. It's an oral allergy, and it's usually related to seasonal allergies. If you're allergic to stuff in the air, it can cause a cross reactive reaction. (like my wording
)

"Grass pollens allergies may cross react with melons, tomatoes and oranges."
If you get itchy in your mouth, DON'T EAT IT!! Those can get ugly real quick, and my allergist says oral allergies can get worse over time, including anaphalaxis.
BTW: scratch tests aren't really accurate for foods. They are much more accurate for environmental allergens.

I'm sorry, eating disorders are so hard. It makes family and friends feel so helpless.
I hope she improves soon.

Chelsea--Did you get at least one of those abbreviations in Syracuse? The first one, I've used myself for many years
Haha! Yes, I got JFHC from my best friend, a 3rd generation Syracusean
(And a 2nd generation 'Ham alum)

Totally stole the quote from the Handmaid's Tale.
I figured out GDMFCSSOB! except for the CS in the middle. Oh wait...just clicked. Nevermind!
In JFHC, the H remains an initial. So its J____ F______ H. C______. If that helps.
Turns out I have pink eye AND impetigo! That's what the lip thing was about, and it explains why it spread. Yay for topical antibiotics! Must have been the lake. I know of at least 2 girls that were home sick with high fevers this week.
Thanks for all the comforting
I'm definitely keeping those drops around!!!
-
Thanks everybody, I have a Dr. appt later this morning.
And dammit on the eye makeup
I'm actually at work WITHOUT MAKEUP today! I feel NAKED!
Between the eye and the eruptions below my lip, I figured it was a bad idea. Yeah, I'm real cute
I feel like a friggin' leper. I wonder if anyone needs a quasimodo understudy, all I need is a pillow under my shirt and I'm all set! No makeup necessary!
Poor DH, his birthday is tomorrow and I'm out of commission on all counts, since I'm riding the crimson wave as well. We can't even kiss because of the minefield on my lips. Grr. I should have stayed home today.

I've had pink eye many years ago. I think you need to get a prescription to treat it.
JFHC sounds exactly like something I say.
It's not a common blaspheme, not here anyway. I heard more say it when I lived in NY.

Sorry, this is unrelated, but the conversation is like being 15 and getting advice from people about whether or not you should have sex for the first time with Johnny football hero
In other news,
I'm terrified of oats. I wouldn't try them if it were me. I think it's a personal decision though, I'd also base it on what your plans are this weekend

Dinner at Macaroni grill, with pasta and an ENTIRE LOAF of french bread.
I wish I would have gone to KFC, gotten a loaf of french bread on the way home, and a tube of pillsbury cookie dough.

JFHC
What does that stand for??? Ahahahahahahah
Um, not going to say, because I'd get into trouble. I only say it when really mad or irritated

Let's hope it doesn't make people with celiac look "out there"....
*fingers crossed*
