ARCHIVED Chipotle (fast Food Chain - Burritos, Tacos, Bowls)
MallysMama replied to paulasimone's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Awww! I'm sad to hear that! I suppose it'd still be worth trying though! I don't eat pork....I only care for steak that comes from an amazing steakhouse...and I don't like bbq! However - I love chicken!! I'll be sure to try the bols though!! -
ARCHIVED Chipotle (fast Food Chain - Burritos, Tacos, Bowls)
MallysMama replied to paulasimone's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Hmmm....I'm definitely going to have to try Chipotle!! There's one right next to the Outback I work at... but I've never tried it. My hubby eats there a lot while working (they usually give law enforcement discounted or free meals...so his trainer likes to eat there)....so he might object to eating there when we go out. But I'll have to try it sometime... -
I agree that that's the time to go! The Outback I work at is insanely busy (on the same road as the "World's Busiest Outback"). We have a long wait Every night (and even most lunches). I would say the best night to go - with probably the shortest wait time is usually Tuesday. And if you make it there at 5 - your chances of having a huge wait will be pretty...

Terps - I work there tomorrow....I'll try to remember to ask someone for you. Lauren - That's so cool you got the job at a new Outback. That's how I started too. Our's opened on August 28th, 2005. It's a great way to start there...because everyone (even if they've worked at an Outback before) is new! And the first nights - friends and family nights...

ARCHIVED I Hate I Hate I Hate...
MallysMama replied to penguin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wow!! I loved this post! (Even though I hate that it took so long to read! ) There were so many people's posts that I wanted to respond to - but now...8 pages later...I don't remember! So - here I go with my own "hate" list! -I hate when people leave their blinkers on after changing lanes. -I hate finding out that a cereal I've eaten my... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Feel Like Me?
MallysMama replied to JessicaB's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Jessica, I have a lot in common with you!! I'm also 22, married (just had 3 year anniversary), and have one beautiful daughter, Mallory, who is 19 months old. However, I live in Las Vegas and have had Celiac my whole life. I recently joined this message board because I have not been following the gluten-free diet very well and I became a little... -

ARCHIVED Newbie To Site - "veteran" To Celiac
MallysMama replied to MallysMama's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I really appreciate all of your stories. I am new to hearing about all the other problems that Celiac seems to cause. Has research linked them - or has each individual connected the cause? I'm just curious because I've never heard of gluten causing problems with the Brain before. I'd heard that it can make us more susceptible to cancers...but never heard... -
I'm doing better today - no crying! I think you're right - I had my time to be discouraged and angry and now I need to move past it and work on being healthy - one day at a time. I do have a beautiful daughter (and wonderful family) to live for...and be healthy and happy for. I pray all the time that my daughter is spared this trial in her life. They...

Well, we went to our anniversary dinner at the Stratosphere Tower here in Vegas! I cannot even describe how good the food was (not to mention the amazing view)!! I was tempted to call them beforehand and get the low-down on the ingredients - but I just didn't want to be different, I guess. So anyway - I ate every last bite of my heavenly dinner. So...

ARCHIVED New And Confused
MallysMama replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Dee, It's so good to see you so involved and interested and concerned for this girl who seems to mean so much to your son. I know it was difficult for my in-laws when they learned what I couldn't eat - especially when my mother-in-law's "specialty" is lasagna. My hubby comes from a family of mostly boys... and I think I was quite a shock to their system... -
I would like that a lot. I'm actually looking to get a biopsy done since I haven't had one done since I was a toddler. Wouldn't it be pointless to have a blood test done? Isn't that only used to diagnose the disease - not to check up on it later? I don't even know where to start - so to be able to talk to a medical person would help. I'd appreciate...

ARCHIVED Manufactured gluten-free Products
MallysMama replied to MallysMama's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I went onto the kinnikinnick website last night and found some things I figured I'd try. It came to about 42.00...so not much more than I spent at the healthfood store. Only problem - they don't take American Express!! My hubby has a visa credit card - that I've never bothered to add myself to (I don't like credit cards very much and hardly use them... -
Thank you all for your support. I'm still really really struggling. I don't understand why all of a sudden, after 22 years, am I having such a hard time? Was it divine intervention to get me to this website for a kick in the pants in the right direction? For so long I had no idea what I was missing out on. It was no big deal when my mom made my dinner...

I just can't do it! I've been trying to be better and not cheat - and it's almost impossible!!!! I'm so addicted to "easy" foods - like cereal - and I just can't go 100% gluten free! I went grocery shopping today and vowed to look closer at the things I normally eat to make sure I get rid of the stuff that's still hurting me. I'll mention this a million...

ARCHIVED Salmon Recipes
MallysMama replied to ebrbetty's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I absolutely LOVE salmon! We eat it at least once a week!! (I buy it frozen...it tastes better fresh - but I like to keep it in the freezer for when I need a quick meal.) I love to put dill and/or garlic on salmon (with butter). I like it pan-fried but my hubby prefers it cooked in the oven. But, when you feel like cooking again - here is my absolute... -
ARCHIVED Manufactured gluten-free Products
MallysMama replied to MallysMama's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I tried the waffles again today - with LOTS of syrup (and cooked them longer in the toaster). There was a moment when I lingered too long on a bite and almost gagged....but overall they weren't too bad and I could get used to them if I'm too lazy to make homemade ones. However, I cannot seem to find any of the kinnikinnick products. Where are you all... -
I'm very seriously considering it. It would be months before I'd be able to get into a specialist though.... and I need to make sure our insurance will cover it.

Lauren, That sounds very interseting - Mag. Publications! That would be a lot of fun if I was more creative than I am... I guess I had wanted to go more into the talking/managing part of communications and not so much the creative part of it (that I'm sure helping with a magazine requires). I'm glad to hear your test went pretty well. I was depending...

Nope - never to my knowledge have I been back to a doctor because of Celiac. (Except one time when I was probably around 3-4 when my parents decided to see if I could handle any bread yet... not a whole lot of knowledge back then about if it was a permanent thing or not...) I barely even mention it to any doctor I see. I wouldn't even know who to go to...

Congrats, so far!! That's awesome! Good luck on the assessment test - not fun!! That's just the beginning. You have to learn the menu and the drink menu and be tested on that too before you can waitress. (And then again every 6 months.) The outback I work at is insanely busy! (Just a mile or so away from the world's busiest outback - and there are more...

ARCHIVED How Long Did U Wait To Drink Alcohol Again
MallysMama replied to Moongirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm not quite sure why I'm replying to these posts - because I don't drink and never have had any alcohol before. Before starting work in a restaurant, 6 months ago, I had no idea beer even had gluten in it! I find it interesting that someone mentioned having difficulty not drinking at social get-togethers or after work, etc.... that people looked at you... -
ARCHIVED Manufactured gluten-free Products
MallysMama replied to MallysMama's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh my goodness! You people are amazing! I never expected such a quick and overwhelmingly helpful reply! After reading every single word - there's some I agree with and other's I don't. Like I said, I'm really really picky! Almost all of you liked Pamela's cookies. Well, I happened to buy a box of those (lemon shortbread or something like that)...and... -
No way!!! It had been soo long before I even dared try Oats after they were "okay'd"....and now I'm finally eating them and you tell me that they're not safe?! It's never bothered me before? I don't understand. How can you know if Anything is truely Gluten-free? Grrr...so frustrating!! I might as well plant my own garden and only eat my own veggies...

Why won't it let me keep "gluten-free" just as I type it? When I go back through and read a post I typed... it always puts it as "gluten-free". It keeps all the other initials.... DH... D... etc. Why not "G.F."? It's a pain to have to type gluten-free all the time...so in my posts I just use the initials. I don't understand why it gets fixed? ...
