  1. Here are two lists, one for food, one for medicine. Be careful with these, though, as there are always a couple mistakes: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link I would most recommend, though, the list at Open Original Shared Link. Click on "health and wellness" on the left side, and the first should be a celiac group. They constantly...
  2. Not sure if this goes under related disorders/research or pregnancy. I put it under the former, but if any other mods. want to move it, feel free: Open Original Shared Link
  3. If they have a phone #, though, I'd double-check to make sure they have a gluten-free bakery...some do, some don't.
  4. It seems like a lot of people register and just don't come, though...not necessarily lurk. After all, when you look at the members who are on, they don't show many. Well, unless the people don't bother to log in and just view as guests. There are always many guests.
  5. Whole Foods (visit Open Original Shared Link) has a gluten-free bakery...terrific. I believe they have the gluten-free bakery in their stores in Florida, but you can go to a store locator on their site to find out.
  6. And except for the obvious: anything with a suspicious word in the name, such as "brownie"
  7. The only way to know is to call the company. It is questionable, so, except for with McCormick, you need to call....same as you do with natural/artificial flavors and modified food starch (with most companies, except those that list gluten clearly on the label).
  8. I wrote my e-mail to the Vatican.....just don't want to share it because I was.... rather scathing at times and I don't want to offend anyone. Kathy, I accept that it's probably okay, but it irks me that even a little bit of gluten is necessary for the communion to be valid. It doesn't seem practical.
  9. I know. Even if I could have oats, I feel like I am doing fine with a gluten-free, oat-free diet....why take the risk if I don't really need oats anyway?
  10. Good idea, Scott! I bet we'll see a flood of newbie postings over the next few days
  11. Relatively recent studies have showed that oats are safe for celiacs (unless they have an additional problem to oats, that is) provided that the oats are not contaminated. McCanns, after dealing with a contamination problem, are said to be the most reliable gluten-free oat. The point is, though, the structure of the oat is not problematic as is that of...

    ARCHIVED Support

I'm so sorry to hear that. I bet I'm 100 times worse when it comes to paranoia about the diet and I don't usually have to deal with much....criticizing or joking about it. My family realizes that this is....I guess you could say, natural after spending 8 years (or 57% of my current life) in pain. You're not crazy. They just don't get it. Nobody...
  13. Caramel coloring is questionable. From celiac.com:
  14. This research is about getting more of the gliadin out of processed foods for testing -- since the current procedures apparently only extract 44%, that would mean tested foods (as a whole, not raw ingredients) would generally have (over) double the amount found by ELISA testing! Also, the new test can find the proteins from rye and barley! ========...

  17. Yes....Ian, I exerienced a similar problem with deodorant recently that I hadn't had before. I used some Gilette deodorant and it burned for about 2 hours after....the next day it did the same thing. I didn't see any obvious gluten in it, but I'll go back to my old brand
  18. Open Original Shared Link reference made to the gluten-free bakery in whole foods.
  19. Biopsies are a pretty regular occurence after positive bloodwork. The biopsy will usually show either complete damage to the villi (where all the samples come back as positive), patchy damage (some samples showing villous atrophy, some not), or no damage, which could be the result of taking samples from all the areas that were not damaged. With positive...

    ARCHIVED New To Gf Diet

Fortunately, when I had to stay about 5 days at the hospital, it was Columbia Presybterian, also home to the largest celiac program in the US, so they knew what they were doing. I got gluten-free bread, Jello, a kozy shack gelatin thing that had "GLUTEN FREE" on the label...uhh...a cup of hot water with a HerbOx....mix thing to put in it, also gluten-free...
  21. Coca-Cola will e-mail you their gluten-free list, which does include regular Coca-Cola, diet, diet and caffeine-free coke, caffeine-free coke, sprite, etc. EVERYTHING SOFTDRINK MADE BY PEPSI CO. IS gluten-free. It could be a problem with the carbonation
  22. I asked because the tests under the celiac panel hold different....weight w/ a pos. or neg. reaction...with one test a positive might be nearly definite and with another, it might still make celiac disease questionable. Endoscopies can easily get false negatives but have very reliable positives. I'd go gluten-free on that.
  23. Yes......quite often, someone from a health food store will try to convince you that spelt is okay for celiacs. It is a form of wheat and definitely is not.
  24. Did you purposely cheat or was it the absent-minded thing? I've done that type of thing before (when I started the diet). I found myself just naturally gravitating towards food.....which was, 90% of the time, something I couldn't....I would usually catch myself just in time. Many people in the beginning, if making non-gluten-free pasta for the rest of...
