  1. I doubt that such a thing is true. Maybe her doctor didn't read the results correctly or maybe she's just saying that to feel....less guilty or make you cheat? And you can never cheat....not because of the antibodies (after all, those don't do anything to you, they're just a sign of whether you're fully gluten-free or not)...but because your intestines...
  2. I haven't been there, but the term "safer" wouldn't make me feel very comfortable about it. Remember that he might still be getting contaminated, but not enough to experience the....EXTERNAL SYMPTOMS that he normally feels when he has had gluten.
  3. Oh, wow...that's great!
  4. What? Do you mean that the healthfood store will do that or the manufacturer? About that--be careful because some companies will and some won't do this. I know that the Gluten Free Pantry does not have such a return policy and Miss Robens does...
  5. A gluten-free diet will bring your levels down and make you appear normal, which is why people always say you should be on gluten for three months prior to testing to get a diagnosis of celiac. It is natural for your antibody levels to go down on a gluten-free diet. If you go back to gluten, you may feel fine now, but your antibodies will eventually go...
  6. Yes...Celiac cannot be given to anyone else, except of course, through genes. You didn't necessarily have celiac a birth, but you had a genetic predisposition to it...HLA DQ2 and DQ8....then the celiac had to be triggered, such as with surgery or high-stress situations. Once triggered, of course, you have it. Of course, triggers aren't contained to a high...
  7. Ha...that's actually happened to me. I had a dream once where I was in a really dark restaurant and I was told a chocolate cake they had was gluten-free and even though I knew it wasn't (in the back of my mind) I ate it anyway (in the dream of course).......then I panicked and woke up...this was a few months into the diet.

  9. LOL .....the...adapted story of Cinderella
  10. Yes...Anne Lee, the most...respected celiac nutritionist, said that Bette Hagman recipes are good, but they take forever to make and require tons of ingredients. She said that basically, you need to spend a lot of time in the kitchen to make her recipes and she doesn't have the time (being a working mom) to make those recipes.
  11. Ha! That's the dumbest thing I ever heard...I'd love to see him try to back that up in a courtroom But yes, we did get a kick out of that
  12. Yes--most celiacs are asymptomatic and usually if one person has it, someone else in their family does, too

Good! Very few regular drs. will know a lot about celiac disease, so trust your knowledge over what he says.....or verify what he says with a message board or GI...
  14. Umm...I've tried Food By George brownies, but they're terribly expensive and not as good as the ones made with a gluten-free mix so I don't eat those much. Do you mean Kinnikinick? (do they make brownies?)
  15. True...there are two sides to it, I guess. The people who think it's no big deal (which is obviously bad) and then the people who think it's contagious or something. But I guess someone could think it's a big deal in a sensitive way, too...
  16. Okay ...I'll start reading from page one. I see.....yea, it really annoys me (in general) when people think it's funny and laugh about celiac disease or grill me (no pun intended ) about what I can't eat and then say "Well, what can you eat then?"
  17. Lol ....a humorous way to look at it, but true
  18. Cancer is only one possiblity. Far more common is osteoporosis at an age you wouldn't normally get it (awhile ago there was someone on here who was about 30-years-old with osteo. from eating gluten long-term--before diagnosis, of course), vitamin deficiencies, malnutrition, anemia, and type 1 diabetes. If you visit the celiac.com site index and look for...
  19. Oh, okay, sorry...I thought you were saying no only because it meant eating out.

Whoops...I opened this thread about 20 min. ago and walked away so I didn't see the other replies come in--looked like I posted a little late
  21. Lol ....a few reasons why I haven't. First, I don't really have anything to put in its place. I don't have a cute dog (used to, but not anymore ) that I could use the way Karen does and I don't have any good digital pictures. And all the regular pictures have my family or at least by brother in them so if I scaled it to size, you wouldn't really see...

Oh no! You can never eat gluten again. After one year, your intestines will be healed--and so if you ate gluten, you'd knock yourself back to square one very quickly.
  23. It is...and we hope that within a few years they'll list all gluten! Food labeling bill will make things 60% easier though (in 2006) since wheat (usually what makes things unsafe for us) will be listed.
