ARCHIVED Positive Biopsy Negitive Bood Tests?
celiac3270 replied to Edges12's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There definitely can be for a few reasons: If you don't eat gluten for at least 3 months before testing, if you're IgA deficient, if the lab messes up, etc. It's definitely possible. Prometheus is a good lab to send the blood to. And some people just test negative but respond very well to a gluten-free diet....or get a negative blood, but positive Enterolab... -
ARCHIVED Under Arm Deodrant
celiac3270 replied to chelly1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know that it all has a chance, but then you could also say that there's a chance for cross-contamination is you touch anything that has been touched by a person who has eaten gluten....a keyboard, telephone, etc. I think things that get close to your mouth or very easily on your hands, such as sunscreen are more important to check than this. -

ARCHIVED Best Gluten Free Bread
celiac3270 replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Spelt is not gluten-free . It is a form of wheat. -
It's not a silly question....there are no such things as silly questions here since many of us started out not knowing what celiac disease or gluten was in the first place. Stuff in your supermarket almost always will not mention that it's suitable for celiacs...you need to call to ask on most things. In the case of corn flour, however, being that it...

ARCHIVED Under Arm Deodrant
celiac3270 replied to chelly1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Umm....does he have a skin reaction or get sick? Deodorant shouldn't be a problem (besides w/ a skin reaction) since it shouldn't get digested, thus doing damage to the villi. -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease In The News
celiac3270 replied to celiac3270's topic in Publications & Publicity
Sorry...we've had a couple slow days and I got no articles. Here are some new ones, though: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link I checked 2 others I got in the alert and they had no pertinence to celiac disease....sorta like the ones I've been getting the past few days about importation of corn gluten -
ARCHIVED Possible Diagnoses Of Cs
celiac3270 replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
An IgA deficiency can make your otherwise positive test appear questionable or negative, which is why your doctor reconsidered after learning this. I am surprised, though, that if your biopsy showed damage, you weren't put on a gluten-free diet due to that. Anyway, it sounds as if your doctor made the right decision -

celiac3270 replied to jknnej's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

ARCHIVED Wearing Medical Alert Bracelet?
celiac3270 replied to mytummyhurts's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I'm not in favor of wearing them in general because if you can't talk and need treatment for something life threatening, glutening yourself should be the least of your concerns. It might be good for intimidating waiters/waitresses at restaurants, though. -
ARCHIVED Ratzinger--not Good For Celiacs
celiac3270 replied to celiac3270's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
With a diet that is otherwise 100% devoid of gluten, the low-gluten host is a sensible and fine alternative. The average "gluten-free diet", however, no matter how careful you are, contains a degree of gluten, though not anywhere near the amount needed to get you sick (according to Anne Lee). My view of this, though, is that the low-gluten host is fine... -
Aww...Ratzinger is pope and with this election we currently have no chance of the Catholic Church accepting rice Communions...... The religion folder at Delphi is full of disappointed Catholics.....If anyone wants to read what some people there are thinking I can copy and paste...just let me know. Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

ARCHIVED Nyc Fast Lunch Ideas Needed!
celiac3270 replied to Ruth's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Risotteria is in the West Village (way downtown). Grand Central is at 42nd street and Bleecker Street is...right around third street. To get there, you could go to Grand Central, take the 6 train (subway) downtown and get off at "Bleecker Street." That puts you on the east side still, though. Then you walk west....here, they have a map of where they are... -

There are endless possibilites, but about the ones suggested so far....I love hockey, but I'm so annoyed at the strike and as much as I love the sport, a hockey player wouldn't be a...role model to me...I want to do something more intellectual with my life . Uhh.....I don't have any dream destination...don't watch cartoons, just reality tv . I could get...

celiac3270 replied to Lesliean's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Oh, right...I was anxious, too . Since I was getting sick all the time, but seemingly randomly and I didn't know when it would hit, I would try to get everything done as early as possible (for example, a lot of weekend homework done on Friday, or studying for a test a couple days before I actually had to, in case I got sick and couldn't study the day... -

ARCHIVED Can Shampoo Contribute?
celiac3270 replied to janu's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well, if it got in your mouth it could cause a problem, but theoretically, a non-gluten-free shampoo won't cause problems. In other words, it cannot be absorbed through the skin. -
ARCHIVED Coping With Co-workers Attitude While Dining Out
celiac3270 replied to lpellegr's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
If you can do so without sounding pushy, I would say, "It's my body. If I get sick, I'm the one who will feel the effects. Even a crumb of gluten will severely damage my intestines and could, besides giving me short-term symptoms (whether you want to mention gas or not is up to you) can lead to anemia and a host of complications: diabetes, intestinal cancers...
