  1. Sorry! I now remember some friendly university mocking between you and utdan . . . I guess I shouldn't write things at midnight, eh?
  2. Sorry my measurements were weird earlier. I've edited them now . . no more question marks!
  3. Mine, too. Especially soft (like regular bread) the first day it's baked .
  4. My mom was always constipated. I think it took about 2 months after she went off gluten for her BM's to normalize - and she was so surprised! She was so used to it that constipation just seemed normal to her! So the answer to your question is: yes. Also, when you went off wheat before, did you go gluten free (avoiding barley, rye, and oats as well...
  5. At the GIG conference in Salt Lake, I talked to a friend of Bette's who said she's been confined to a wheelchair and that it is frustrating for her because she is such a go getter. She said that Bette has been slowly working on one more cookbook . . . hope it's true! She certainly did a LOT for gluten-free baking!
  6. Here's another recipe (and you are back to trying all sorts of different things again . . . that's what you get when you ask for opinions from a 10,000 member board!). My cousin says it's much like kinnikinnik's . . . it makes really great pizza crust, too. True Yeast Bread from Open Original Shared Link I cool it, slice it, and then keep it in the...
  7. Try this recipe. I hated eating gluten free sugar cookies, because they always tasted like they'd been to the beach and back with a trip to the "sand"wich Islands in between. Gritty. Blech. These, on the other hand taste and feel just like regular sugar cookies. In fact, my Dad and Sister (who don't have celiac) say that they prefer these to "regular...
  8. It really depends on your bishop. In my mom's ward, they have my dad carry her bread/rice cake in a white handkerchief and just hold and break it while the priests are doing the same. He just sits in the row with her and then passes it to her while the deacons are passing the sacrament. In my sister's ward, she generally sits in the same place every week...
  9. BEsides, according to the medical professionals themselves, it is the biopsy, NOT the blood work that is the "gold standard" for diagnosis of celiac. I think your doc is making a mistake.
  10. That back arching thing sounds an awful lot like gas to me. My kids always did that when their stomachs hurt. Mylicon helped my 1st DD a lot, but didn't do much for my 2nd. I would try listening to his stomach/intestine area while he's crying. The crying tends to block out some of the noises, but you may be able to hear those "Gas" rumblings. Also take...
  11. My best advise would be: Make a list of all the things you CAN eat. It helps to look at a gluten-free diet from this positive perspective.
  12. I think that the worst part about a diagnosis of celiac are those first days when you are thinking about all of the things your son can't eat anymore. One of the things that helps the most is to sit down and make a list of all of the things he CAN eat - fruits, veggies, meats, corn, rice, potatoes, etc. The list goes on and on. The other thing that...
  13. I usually use Bette Hagman's Featherlight Mix. 1 c. white rice flour 1 c. cornstarch 1 c. tapioca starch 1 Tbs. potato flour I just mix up a big tub of this and then use it cup for cup in place of regular flour in recipes. You need to add between 1/4 and 1/2 tsp. of xanthan gum per cup of featherlight mix - start with the smaller amount, and...
  14. Well, if it is a virus, it ought to wrap itself up in a couple of days . . . viruses usually only hang around for 10 - 14 days. Sometimes it takes a little bit longer for all the symptoms to clear up. One of my babies is just getting to the end of a nasty hand/foot/mouth type virus, and it has certainly been a couple of rough weeks. This is the sort of...
  15. I'm so glad! We keep you all in our prayers.
  16. Hey . . . just saw this post. Thought I'd throw in my two cents . . . my cousin Merry is currently serving a mission in Nauvoo, and she was well aware that she had celiac when she sent in her papers . . . it was never a problem. My brother recently returned from Utica, NY, and he had 2 or 3 different missionaries in his mission who had celiac. So it can...
  17. C.F. is "Casien Free" - Casien is the protein in milk. Welcome!
  18. You know what? This is a fabulous idea, because politicians are always looking for ways to show themselves in good light. That's just part of their job. And, as ravenwoodglass said, I'd tell EVERYONE - house of reps, the president, etc. It just gives you a bigger chance that you will be helped. Also, it could possibly help that Senator Clinton belongs...
  19. As I understand things, biopsy samples are supposed to be kept for 7 years . . . is that right? So if the biopsy was done last Sep, they still ought to have the sample available for others to look at.
  20. She's doing much better. It cleared itself up within a month or so, and she hasn't had many problems since (barring all the cavities ). She's seven now, but I tell you, those weeks of waiting were AWFUL. You worry about them and wish you could fix it all right away. You definitely worry more about their health than you ever felt you had to about your...
  21. Not that it will help you with the current bout of exhaustion, but it is something to be grateful for that he is getting into a GI so quickly. My daughter had intestinal bleeding at 4 months, and it took them about a month to get her into a ped. GI. So at least you will be getting some professional advise relatively quickly. By the way, saw in your...
  22. Anyone out there a gluten-free NY lawyer? It would certainly help to have someone who really understands this illness testifying on her behalf . . .
  23. This happened to my DH while taking anti-depressants . .. could that be a contributing factor?
  24. Lonewolf - That sounds much more like tourette's than OCD. Which doesn't mean that it is not gluten related . . . it just means that it isn't likely to be because of anxiety. Good luck in figuring out what's wrong and what's causing it. You might also try keeping a record of how often he is doing these things and then record how often he does them once...
  25. Anyone wonder whether CPS has a quota of "children protected" they have to meet every year in order to maintain their funding levels? Can we say conflict of interest?
