  1. Speaking as the only male on this topic, I believe your being overly sensitive. There are other things to worry about out there in the world.
  2. I was on the road this past weekend and at breakfast I had some "seasoned" home fries/potatoes. As the day went on yesterday, I began feeling fatigued and then by last night I had aches and pains all over. I thought I was getting a cold or some sort of summer flu. What was strange though was that I wasn't running a temperature which usually accompanies...
  3. Here's more: For the estimated 2.2 million Americans who suffer from celiac disease, an inherited autoimmune disorder, the bill provides an additional benefit. It requires the Food and Drug Administration to issue final regulations defining
  4. I've been away for a while! Busy moving to Ashburn!
  5. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Last I heard, this is supposed to go into effect in Jan 08. We'll see.
  6. That's one of my problems, I'm almost completely asymptomatic. Nothing truly affects me, so a light beer like Bud Light doesn't bother me. In fact, at my music festival this weekend, I ate gluten free but had quite a few Bud Lights with absolutely no problems. I really hope Anheiser Busch tests their beer to see how much ppm gluten is truely found. I...
  7. I always love a good bourbon and ginger ale. Maker's Mark or Jim Beam always go down good. Wine depending on your tastes. I used to try ciders but they're too sweet and will give you massive headaches.
  8. If I have Redbridge available, I'll choose that just to be extra safe, but I'm going to a music festival this weekend and they don't allow glass bottles, so I will likely enjoy some Bud Light cans while I'm there. Everyone's sensitivity is different, but several of the "experts" refuse to admit that point.
  9. I've long thought that the gluten levels in beer, especially products like Bud Light and Amstel Light, do not meet the level of being hazardous to Celiacs. So, I thought I'd test this. Ever since my diagnosis, I go and get blood tests every six months to check on my antibody counts. I also had a follow-up endoscopy to check on my Barrett's Esophagus. ...
  10. From I what I was told by Dr. Fasano at the University of Maryland, they are supposed to state, "contains wheat" even if it's in Modified Food Starch. The only thing you need to look out for is barley/rye at that point.
  11. I know what you mean. I'm asymptomatic besides some occasional bloating so it's especially difficult for me not to cheat. Especially just to have an occasional beer............I guess I just try to remind myself that bad things could happen without me noticing it.........it's tough though. That's why I come to this site and whine
  12. I feel the same way right now. I'm sick and tired of this stupidity. DEVELOP A PILL SO WE CAN LEAD NORMAL LIVES!
  13. There are a ton of options. PF Changs, Sweetwater Tavern, Clydes, Coastal Flats, Legal Seafood, Bonefish, Outback...........all of these restaurants have gluten-free menus.
  14. I think the beer is fantastic and I've only had this stupid disease for about a year. I drank a six pack on Saturday night and enjoyed every drop. I have been drinking Bard's Tale, which is excellent. However, the Redbridge has a cleaner finish and doesn't have the sweetness that Bard's has. Apparently that is inherent to the sorghum grain, sweetness...
  15. When I do go out, I definitely order bourbon or wine.........wine isnt' feminine..........or shouldn't be looked upon that way. In fact, my wife and I are going to San Francisco in February and we'll be touring Napa and Sonoma. I'm looking forward to it. I'm a Maker's Mark or Jim Beam guy. I've been told that's safe to drink and my antibody levels...
  16. Excellent points Tom. I'm looking forward to trying Redbridge. I just hope it's better than New Grist. I have 5 bottles of New Grist still in the fridge because it's sooooo bad. Regarding the pill, I'd certainly stay on a gluten-free diet most of the time, but when you're in those situations where you're not sure.............or you'd really love to...
  17. I actually have two cases of Bard's Tale at my house! Don't get me wrong, Bard's Tale Beer is very good and tastes like a real beer unlike the disgusting New Grist. But I guess I'm sick of being the "odd man out" in social settings. I'm just whining right now. The holidays don't help though. We have several parties here at work and I'm the one ordering...
  18. Well, it's almost been a year since my positive bloodwork came back. I've got to admit, I'm struggling dealing with this asinine disease.......I recently went on my first business trip of about four days and it was tough trying to find safe places to eat. I'm so sick of explaining this disease to people.........I'm sick of thinking about it at every meal...
  19. Ed - I run Philly in two weeks so I'm glad I read your post. I'm going to eat some gluten-free pasta and potatoes the night before and I plan to eat some gluten-free waffles with peanut butter and honey with a banana the morning of. This will be my first marathon since I was diagnosed so we'll see what happens. I did 21 miles a couple of weeks ago and...
  20. I live in Northern VA too and I drive to Baltimore to see Dr. Alessio Fasano one of the world's top experts on Celiace Disease. He's the director for the Celiac Research Center at the University of Maryland. Open Original Shared Link
  21. The best book I've purchased so far is the Annalise Roberts' book Gluten Free Baking Classics. I can't get over how great the breads and cakes are. She's done something right. The pumpkin bread I made was just like a wheat pumpkin bread. My wife made herself a regular loaf and they looked just alike. Unlike other recipes I've had in the past, Annalise...
  22. I'm going to be running the Philly Marathon on November 19. Looking forward to it. I need to remember to bring some gluten-free waffles for breakfast prior to the race. Anyone else running Philly? If so, have you done it before? I hear it's a nice, flat race.
  23. I was originally diagnosed in Feb 05. Then, in July 05 the doctors had me go back on a gluten diet for 6 months and then recheck my bloodwork and conduct a biopsy. During that time I had no issues and I was eating so much gluten it was unreal. When I got the results of my bloodwork in December and the test stated my levels were at 260, I was totally shocked...
  24. I definitely suggest getting the biopsy. My bloodwork was 260 and they still did the biopsy to be sure. Fortunately or unfortunately for me, I'm pretty much asymptomatic so it was good to have the biopsy done to prove to me that something was truly amiss. My only symptoms over the years were some mild cramps and bloating.
  25. Being a former beer snob prior to diagnosis in Feb 2006, I would strongly recommend Bard's Tale Beer. New Grist is almost undrinkable. Bard's is a true lager with a nice hop finish. I love it. Even my non-Celiac friends think it's great. New Grist is a faux beer that is almost like sparkling wine. The good thing about Bard's is that it comes from malted...
