ARCHIVED Food Ideas For 20 Month Old
Girl Ninja replied to genicol's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yogurt or pudding (i freeze tubes of both in the summer), peanut butter, cream cheese, or hummus with fruits or veggies or gluten-free crackers, peanut butter or cream cheese on mini rice cakes, popcorn (if she's old enough, maybe try a hulless one- I think Pirate's Booty has one), Trix or Cocoa Puffs, cheese (my son would only eat piles of shredded cheese... -
ARCHIVED L-glutamine Powder
Girl Ninja replied to Gentleheart's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Earlier posts caution that people with neurological problems should avoid it. No one is specific about why, but the caution is mentioned repeatedly in different threads. I couldn't find anything about it being dangerous online except possible liver and kidney complications. I hope someone who knows more finds this. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Booze?
Girl Ninja replied to Debbie65's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'd say wine too. What's available near you? Try to match your selection to your beer preference. Light beer? White like pinot grigio or chardonnay. Middle of the road? shiraz. Dark, bold beer? Merlot. Wine coolers? Pink fruity wines like white zinfandel or white merlot. -

ARCHIVED Which Candies Are Okay?
Girl Ninja replied to Esther Sparhawk's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
US "Smarties" are entirely different from Canadian "Smarties." In the US they are flavored sugar pressed into a pill-like shape. In Canada they are candy-coated chocolate. US Smarties are ok. I live on the border. -
ARCHIVED Confused With Prenatal Vitamins
Girl Ninja replied to smilemaker's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
The first scrip I got made my stomach HURT no matter when I took it. The second one I tried was fine. They were both generics. It occurs to me now that it may have been a gluten issue. I hadn't discovered Celiac yet. Good luck to you. I just learned that I may be able to have another one someday. I'm pretty excited. -
I get a 7 layer burrito plus steak in a bowl instead of a wrap. They laugh at me, but it's good! I have a friend (more like a sister) who is a manager there and she checked all of the ingredients. I wish TB would have listed the ingredients individually rather than just the completed menu items. I could build all sorts of cool stuff. SHe also told me I could...

The only ones I can think of that are NOT ok are red licorice and anything with crispy rice in it. -
ARCHIVED Confused With Prenatal Vitamins
Girl Ninja replied to smilemaker's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Tiffany's right. I think the iron was what I had a hard time with in the first scrip, and I can see why people might need to take it separate. -
ARCHIVED Confused With Prenatal Vitamins
Girl Ninja replied to smilemaker's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I don't know if this really matters or not, but my doc told me the difference between otc and prescription prenates is the amount of iron. My first scrip ones made me feel sick, so she tried some other ones but when she was changing them she said that she had other patients who never found a scrip they liked and she just had them take otc ones and a separate... -

ARCHIVED Semi Productive Doctocter Conversation
Girl Ninja replied to Lister's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think everyone should relax and you should do what the doc says. If you were avoiding dairy because it make you ill that would be another story. But you're not. And maybe testing dairy will help him to know if he needs to run another expensive test or not. I am confused about the ice cream over yogurt thing, but maybe he just thinks it would be easier to... -
ARCHIVED Hives Angioedema Liver And Celiac
Girl Ninja replied to hiveman's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Fiddle Faddle - It's easier to understand the difference between DH and Hives with pictures. DH is generally patches of small fluid filled blister type bumps that can break open. You can't break open a hive. It's more of a swollen area of skin and can range in size from small dots to larger than dinner plates. The confusion comes because they both itch like... -
ARCHIVED Night Terrors/fear/paraoid
Girl Ninja replied to tiffjake's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Me too. They called it depression and tried to treat me with various meds, but none of them ever made a lick of difference. Last time I got glutened really good I had a panic attack. I thought I was having a heart attack. I used to wake up from nightmares that seemed SO real and I had the sleep paralysis too. I'd wake up not able to draw a breath, sure I... -
Swelling of the thyroid gland. It usually has to do with iodine deficiency in my neck of the woods. I found this: A goiter is an enlargement of the thyroid gland. It is not cancer. Causes, incidence, and risk factors There are different kinds of goiters. A simple goiter usually occurs when the thyroid gland is not able to produce enough thyroid...

ARCHIVED Hives Angioedema Liver And Celiac
Girl Ninja replied to hiveman's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The doctors will pick every little milestone and use that as your next "hives will go away" deadline. Mine were supposed to stop after my son was born, after I stopped nursing him, after I increased my exercise, after I changed jobs, etc. They have no idea. -
ARCHIVED Hives Angioedema Liver And Celiac
Girl Ninja replied to hiveman's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I actually never heard of angioedema before this thread. I just looked it up and I guess I had both all along too. I just figured some hives were "surface hives" and the other swelling was still hives, just deeper. Ya learn something every day, huh? I think it would have freaked me out a lot more to have the severe joint pain/ swelling without hives. My doctors... -
ARCHIVED Hives Angioedema Liver And Celiac
Girl Ninja replied to hiveman's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I first started getting hives in June of 1999. I am self diagnosed (this April) and have only been gluten-free for about 2 months, but the difference is tremendous. I sort of wish I had tried for a real diagnosis before I tried the diet, but I feel so much better now there's no way I'm doing a gluten challenge. Maybe in a few years when I forget how crappy... -
ARCHIVED How Often Do You Meet Other Gluten-intolerant People In Restaurants?
Girl Ninja replied to munchkinette's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
All the time! I met a girl who has Celiac (or is it is Celiac??) who works at McDonald's near me and A girl who works at the Seattle's Best coffee thingy inside Border's bookstore. I get people at work (Kroger) all the time who appear to be searching for something in particular on ingredient lists so I ask if they need help and they're looking for gluten... -
ARCHIVED Hives Angioedema Liver And Celiac
Girl Ninja replied to hiveman's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hives are my main symptom. For 6 years, I got them all over my body every day. They would mostly be deep in the tissue of knees, hands, feet, elbows, shoulders, etc. Those ones are super painful and leave me with a chronic fatigue-like fog from trying to function through the pain. I would get pressure hives from sitting or standing for too long or clapping... -
ARCHIVED Let's Talk Costco!
Girl Ninja replied to lindalee's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yeah, Meijer is kind of like Walmart. It was founded in MI. I don't know how far outside MI it extends. -
ARCHIVED Let's Talk Costco!
Girl Ninja replied to lindalee's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Actually, I usually get Harmony brand trail mix from Meijer because that's closer to me than Costco. I think Costco has their own brand of trail mixes and dried fruit blends. I've never had a problem with their trail mixes. Sorry I can't remember the name. -
ARCHIVED Mayo Alternatives?
Girl Ninja replied to BRUMI1968's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I found this online. Maybe one of the craftier cooks can tell you what would be the best sub for the soy milk. Rice milk? I don't really know. Sounds yummy, though. I totally pick hommus too or Italian dressing. Yum! Title: EGGLESS MAYO ("BETTER 'N HELLMAN'S") Categories: Vegetarian Yield: 1 servings 1 c Edensoy (Original) ...
