ARCHIVED Asian Celiacs?
inquirer replied to stef-the-kicking-cuty's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My husband is Iranian. He carries two gluten sensitivity genes which means both of his parents carry the gene and it runs strongly in his family. A doctor tried to convince my husband that he couldn't be gluten sensitive because people from his part of the world didn't have it. When I pointed out he had two gluten sensitivity genes the doctor became... -
ARCHIVED Megan's Gagging Isn't Any Better
inquirer replied to TCA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If you can keep pumping for a little while longer I'd keep on pumping. (Easy for me to say!). You can always rethink in a few weeks or months after you see how things are working out. As you already know, once you stop it's really hard to start up again. I also second the opinion that you need to get Megan checked for candida. It was a thought I had... -
ARCHIVED Do You Have Dry, Painful, Cracked Heels?
inquirer replied to azmom3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I used to have problems with cracking heels. I added flax seed oil to my diet and it helped immensely. Sometimes you have to treat the problem from the inside out. -
ARCHIVED Torn About How To Test My Son, Lots Of Questions
inquirer replied to Sarah8793's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I had both my kids tested since my husband has two gluten sensitive genes and I knew they would get at least one from him. I figured I probably had some of my own celiac genes to pass on even though I hadn't been tested and it turns out I was right. I figured if it turned out they were sensitive it would make it a lot easier to make the whole house gluten... -
Enterolab is the way to go. Not everyone has the intestinal issues and the bloodwork doesn't always show there's a problem. Enterolab testing will tell you whether you are reacting to gluten and if you are you can stop before there are major health problems or perhaps to reverse a health problem. My husband has been seriously ill with an autoimmune disease...

ARCHIVED Evan's Story-advice Needed
inquirer replied to evansmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I also think Enterolab is the right way to go. You don't have to convince any doctors to test him. You don't have to keep him on gluten until the testing. And you'll get an answer of whether or not he is sensitive to gluten. The Enterolab stool testing is much more sensitive and likely to pick up a problem that the blood testing might miss. Sometimes it... -
ARCHIVED Bread Machines
inquirer replied to cmcminnesotan's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I was going to get a Breadman from Sears for about the same price then I went to Amazon to see the reviews and they were awful. So after more research, I bit the bullet and spent twice for the Zojirushi. Sometimes if you spend a little more in the beginning you end up saving in the end. -
In The Coconut Oil Miracle, Bruce Fife says that a salve of crushed raw garlic and coconut oil applied several times a day can get rid of warts. (Refrigerate the salve) No guarantess but you can try it.

ARCHIVED Magnesium Citrate
inquirer replied to tammy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Frenchiemama, I hope you have a night guard so you can protect your teeth. I wear one at night but I often times remove it in my sleep. I've read that mineral deficiencies can cause clenching so that's why I'm taking the magnesium and I'm going to add the B5! -
Some people believe that if you have undiagnosed allergies that can keep you from losing weight. There is a doctor at www.drrima.com who has a section regarding that and of course a book. Also, for some of you who were losing weight before your celiac diagnosis, then gained weight and now can't take off the weight, I'd like to relate what happened...

ARCHIVED Magnesium Citrate
inquirer replied to tammy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for sharing. I'm taking magnesium before bed in the hopes that I'll stop clenching my teeth while I sleep. -
There seem to be two (maybe more) trains of thought. There is the: if he makes a noise or movement he is hungry crowd, and the baby doesn't need to eat every minute crowd. When my daugher was six weeks old, I was at my mom's and my daughter started to fuss. I started to nurse her (again!) and my mom told me to hand her over. She walked around with her...

[As for customer service; the funniest thing is that my boyfriend went twice to New York with me (his first time anywhere outside of France without French people) and he was so stunned at the level of customer service! He was all "Wow! It is SO nice to have people greet you with a smile! And people are SO efficient here! And you ALWAYS get a glass of...

ARCHIVED Cellulites-has Anyone Had It? Dx Fri Am After High Fevers
inquirer replied to Judyin Philly's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hope you are still recovering. If you're still having problems, ask your doctor/chiropractor about hyperbaric treatments. It is being used today for wounds that won't heal, ie. gangrene, diabetic sores, etc. -
Thanks for your input Robb. We're finding our way through this quagmire. My husband was put on three series of antibiotics and then prednisone when he got sick with the autoimmune disease so I think that's where he initially got the yeast which is in his lungs. I understand that he has to follow some type of candida diet but it's hard to get him to make...

Great idea! The more awareness the better! I've been thinking about approaching several of my favorite restaurants about this and now I have something to give them.

ARCHIVED Teeth Grinding?
inquirer replied to aedems's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I've read somewhere that grinding can be caused by mineral deficiencies (magnesium?) which could be caused by celiac. I know stess doesn't help! Okay, I did a little research. The deficiencies can be magnesium, calcium and B5. I've really been clenching my teeth lately and recently added the magnesium and calcim, guess I've got to get the B5 too. -
Rob, how do you prepare the sardines? I've tried buying sardines a couple of time but wasn't able to get past the yuck factor. Your salmon recipe looked good. Have you studied coconut oil much? My husband is currently taking it to reduce inflammation for autoimmune disease and for a yeast infection. One doctor thought it might cause inflammation instead...

ARCHIVED gluten-free Flour Substitutions
inquirer replied to mac3's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
If there are any Asian grocery stores in your area they might carry it. It's a lot less expensive. They also have lots of rice flours. I think they call it tapioca starch instead of flour. -
ARCHIVED Newbie And Multiple Food Intolerances
inquirer replied to CeliacInSanDiego's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You can try Quercetin for all over inflammation. I'm also in San Diego and recently took my husband (he's the one that's really, really sick) to see an integrative medicine specialist (MD). They straddle the fence between holistic and traditional. I wanted to make sure I was on the right road and didn't want the supplements I was giving my husband to cause... -
ARCHIVED Newbie And Multiple Food Intolerances
inquirer replied to CeliacInSanDiego's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Look into supplementing with glutamine. Glutamine will help the villi recover which will decrease intestinal permeability thereby hopefully to reduce your senstivities in the future. If I knew how, I would provide the link for you but you can run a search under glutamine and intestinal permeability and should be able to bring up some interesting information... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab
inquirer replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It was worth it for me to have my husband tested. It was also nice not to have to convince a doctor to do it. It would have been nice to have insurance pay for it but oh, well. If it comes back positive and you exclude gluten and get better you will save money in the long run. Less sickness equals less doctor visits and meds which cost money! People... -
I think as a Mom you have to trust your gut. You know your child and you know that something isn't right. The doctor doesn't live with your son. You do. I'm sure you're not looking forward to removing one more item from your son's diet. And you didn't waste money by doing the Enterolab sample. Information is never a waste of of money, only ignorance...

One more hypothyroid here. I also have psoriasis and used to have irritable bowel until I stopped eating bread. It wasn't until I started learning about celiac (for my husband) that I made the connection between removing bread and the irritable bowel. I haven't bothered to have myself tested for gluten sensitivity because I already know I feel better without...
