  1. Just was wondering what is the most common gene for celiac.
  2. Please always ask for a copy of your testing results so you know that the Dr/lab actually ran/asked for the correct tests and the nurse read to you the correct tests results - there is so much error within the medical field!!! In the last month I have been read results from the Dr's office which were 2 years old, I have had the wrong tests run when the lab...
  3. I had and initial Igg of 39 and all other tests came in within normal limit. I have been mostly gluten-free for the last 2 years and I notice definate differances in my levels of energy when I stick with gluten-free and have a rash that appears within hours of a cheeting experience.
  4. After being gluten-free for a significant time as in a year or so, if I get re-tested do I expect to find any antibodies for gluten in my blood results? Do these tests ever get so totally negetive that they do not show up. Do these antibodies ever go away completely? Does a low but "normal" level indicate that there is still gluten being injested...
  5. Thanks Andrea, I have a large family too... so I end up making lots of bread! Three of us seem to do better gluten-free so we just do everyone gluten-free to simplify things. Thanks for the input - I am putting the Bosch Machine on the top of my wish list
  6. I think that the Bosch universal mixer/blender is what I am looking into getting. It has a bread mixer on one side and a blender on the other side. My mother used this for her wheat bread and I wondered how it would do with the gluten-free bread.
  7. Am getting ready to get a bread machine, Am considering eather the Kitchen Aid or the Bosch Bread Mixer. Any input would be appreciated.
  8. Myself: HLA-DQB1 Molecular analysis, Allele 1 0201 HLA-DQB1 Molecular analysis, Allele 2 0301 Serologic equivalent: HLA-DQ 2,3 (Subtype 2,7) Husband: HLA-DQB1 Molecular analysis, Allele 1 0302 HLA-DQB1 Molecular analysis, Allele 2 06xx Serologic equivalent: HLA-DQ 3,1 (Subtype 8,6) Son: LA-DQB1 Molecular...
  9. Never thought that weight gain would be an issue for me but since I have gone gluten-free I have gained about 10 lbs and 2 sizes. I am vegetarian so I think that I end up eating too many grains trying to get my protein and satisfy my appatite. So does gaining weight happen frequently after going gluten-free?
  10. Like I said.... still learning! Thanks!
  11. In the process of learning.... IgG is an alergic reaction and IgA is an intolerance. Alergic reactions can be overcome but intolerant reactions only get worse. It is possible if you show only the IgG reaction that you may be deficite of IgA's , I really don't understand that concept! It is possible to have all the Celiac tests done with the IgG's though...
  12. Finally got my Enterolab results back for myself as well as my husband and kids, found results very interesting, turns out that my hubby and I both have a celiac gene - mine is no. 2 and hubby's is no. 8. Our son who started us on this tangent (with encopresis) turns out to have both 2 and 8 and the worse symptoms as well, he also tested positive with Gluten...
  13. hey, I see persons skeptical about enterolab diagnosis... My husband and I just got back negitive result! We both have one main celiac gene but our antibodies were in the high normal range! (Before I tried enterolab I had blood tests done and was high in IgG only). Our son who has had the worst GI troubles of us also got tested and he did come back positive...
  14. I did a gluten chalenge period this winter of about 5 weeks, I had a "cold" the whole time, when I went gluten-free again my "cold" cleared up within 2 days
  15. A loaf of bread sounds like a lot! Most places recoment 2-4 slices a day for a pre-test dose!
  16. Constipation can very much be part of an intolerance issue. What I think you should be concerned about right now is getting tested for the antibodies that will tell you if you are reacting to gluten. You may end up enjoying the feeling of gluten-free and then you will be unable to get a diagnosis if you wait too long to get tested! Enterolab seems to have...
  17. Decided to do a Gluten challenge with my family and myself and get some more testing done, now after a week I have blisters on my fingers. The area tingles and itches like crazy. I had this happen to me about 8 years ago - these blisters spread all over my fingers on both hands and they lasted for about 5 weeks. Soooo, If this sounds like DH, then what...
  18. I know these results can be sooo confusing, here is how I would conclude. (Can't claim to be an expert and am not sure if I really got it all together - it is hard to figure out)! Transglutaminase IGA AB shows intestinal damage. Even though it is under normal limits, it still shows up and I would take it to mean that there is some damage in process. ...
  19. I have a 2 yr old also and she is very sensitive to gluten. We had her off of gluten for a few months then let her have a few meals of pasta and breads and she got so severily constipated that she began rejecting meals and throwing up. Back to gluten-free and after a few enemas and a week of gluten-free, she is now doing well again with regular BM's. I...
  20. I am sure you will read all about how it is inportant to be eating Gluten for the blood work! If you haven't been real strict then you might be ok, I went back on for about a week after a low gluten diet for a couple of weeks, and tests showed inconclusive. (I think) Still there are antibodies which will hang around for months after gluten-free. Anyhow...
  21. Ive been calculating the same thoughts! take a look at enterolab's web site, they claim to be able to detect higher levels of blood antibodies through stool samples than serum, they do genetic testing and also a malabsorbsion test which is a result of villi damage. Their price is fairly reasonable but am not sure that insurance would cover it. I am wondering...
  22. I would LOVE to go back to my home in Canada where the medical is free... Oh well! Sometimes one has to think about these things a while to figure them out. In the mean time I feel so much better on gluten-free and my 2 kids are able to have BM's without the aid of Laxatives which is a blessing. I would like to have the "Gold Standard" diagnosis of the...
  23. Do you remember what the "Way High" results were and the normal values? Also, did the Endoscopy actually show that you had villi damage?
  24. How did you overcome encopresis? Do you remember soiling? Was it concious or an uncontroled situation? I often wonder if my son does it because he doesn't care, is too busy or truely can't control it! I notice with my 2 yr old daughter that her constipation clears up on gluten-free. My son age 10 eats too much Gluten too often to notice if there could be...
  25. Insurance stuff really blows my mind! Even though I am an RN and earn a living by the health care system here in US, I am Canadian and really miss the hassel free and yes almost free health care system of Canada. My Mom got her testing done without cost and for us we are looking at almost a thousand just for blood work in our family! I am going to...
