  1. Y'all could try the "village" approach to raising children. Everyone send their kids to, say, Emily's house for a month, then the next month their at Janet's and so on. May not improve any of them, but if you get enough people parents involved you'll only have to participate in actual child-rearing once a year or so.
  2. Coco pebbles? Nut flakes? Quinoa flakes?
  3. sooo a couple months ago I decided I was eating too much cheese, and pretty much gave up all dairy (even the Bailey's  ). I'm sad to report that I feel fantastic , well, up until last weekend when I had a latte with milk and felt quite right since, but that will pass. So now I have added dairy to my list of should not eat and what I want...
  4. Separate casein from lactose. Have either hard cheese, or milk --not both.
  5. They need to actually identify the parasites. Different beasties may require different meds.
  6. I would think that if you substituted in a lot of alternative baked goods, you'd be eating a lot of starches and carbs that the average person doesn't eat. The study they quoted did just that. If, instead, you increase your consumption of healthy fruits, veggies, and meats, and don't eat a lot of 'bread', 'cookies', 'pizza', etc, you will ultimately...
  7. Possibly the lamest blog ever: Open Original Shared Link
  8. Is this, like, some football thing that you all saw The Who at the same time?
  9. party was good. those chocolate martinis continue to be awesome. Had ginger chocolate, chili chocolate, licorice choclare, and maybe something else. And walnut chocalte torte. frickin amazing. got a ride home, so I have to walk down there tomorrow to collect my truck, but then I like walking, so should be good. not sure how the sleep thing is going...
  10. I will be leaving you tonight to go to a wine and chocolate party. Since one of my friends doesn't like wine, I'm bringing the chocolate vodka.
  11. true, but there are times when I'd give just about anything to be able to eat and drink with friends without asking about every stupid ingredient, and who washed which pan with what and did you wear gloves and was the bread next to my plate and is that soy sauce and did you make that or buy that and was it a new jar that you opened and so on and so forth...
  12. snort .....and I am never out of alcohol.....
  13. I would get a glass of wine and a glass of water. You can use the wine for toasts and for "show", but mostly drink the water.
  14. I am back from the depths of hell. Worked 12 days straight - some long-a$$ days, did two computer class homeworks (20-30 hours each) AND my room mate moved out!!! :D :D For those of you that have forgotten, room mate is my ex. Was not the most pleasant of living conditions. Now my house is empty and peaceful, well, other than the kitchen getting...
  15. I'm confused as well. Do you mean that you have discovered that he gets ill when he eats these foods? And now you are asking about pursuing medical testing, just so you can be sure? Or are these the foods you know about so far, and want to learn how to find what other foods he can't eat?
  16. Why don't you commit to giving it a solid try for a month. Then try some gluten. If you have a reaction you'll know that staying gluten-free is the best choice for your health.
  17. Maybe it's Celiac that runs in the family.....
  18. I'm up at 4:15, and home by 7 some nights, 9:00 on others. I do all my shopping and cooking on the weekend and freeze meals. I eat a lot of crockpot food because it's so non-time-consuming. Just throw some meat in the pot, fill the rest with veggies, turn it to low, and come back in 10 hours or so. I get three runs done and end up with enough food for...
  19. Come on vacation with me, I always lose weight. We'll stop in to see T, then head out to walk every street and alley in Spain. Sadly, the rule of travel is that all the cool stuff is always uphill, so we'll be hiking up 45 degree angles a lot. After 4 weeks of traveling with me you'll be delighted to be home (I always am).
  20. T - I'm of the opinion that things are only permanent if you decide them to be. Convince your dad that giving up is really the paralysis he needs to avoid.
  21. Freeze leftovers, no matter how small. I periodically have 'no-shop weeks' wherein I only eat what is in my house (frozen leftovers, that package of turkey meat you forgot about, the can of soup way back in the cupboard, etc). This clears older stuff out, and sometimes requires a lot of creativity to come up with something to eat.
  22. Celiac is an immune response, just like a response to a vaccine. When you get a vaccine, your body learns how to produce antibodies against those proteins. Then it keeps a few cells around that know how to do this. The next time you are in contact with that disease, the cells that recognize it start dividing, and also start calling their friends immediately...
  23. There is a boatload of estrogen in cow's milk. It's not because the cows are given artificial hormones, but because they are milked while they are pregnant. There is no difference between organic and inorganic milk in this regard, and some cheeses may concentrate the hormone.
  24. I've never even heard of it..... Where would you find it?
