  1. Just put some space in the bottle of chablis.....
  2. Or you could assume that she's smart enough to know that she can't give all the info you need. If you try the gluten-free diet and you don't get better you still have the option of pursuing other testing.
  3. If she's on a budget isn't she making her own food most of the time anyway? That's pretty easy to control. As for eating out, I found much less contamination in the foods, so ordering a rice dish was always safe without grilling the chef on his technique.
  4. Answers: "The kind that spends a week on the toilet after eating?" "The kind that puts food before her sisters health?" "yes." "I know there are people who just get whacked out about what they eat, but this a real illness." "Hmmmm, I didn't explain this very well. Let's go over it again." "I don't want to abandon our tradition, I just need...
  5. My day yesterday went full speed from 4am to 8:30 pm. I'm a little tired today..... The woman who translated 'kick ass' (ASL) was just a temp and hasn't been back. I asked the two regular guys who do it but they didn't know. They said they would just make some motion to transmit the feeling that was being conveyed, like a "YES!" fist in the air if the...
  6. There are different ways of coping with this. I tell myself "sure! eat that! you can have anything you want. Just be fully aware that you will be sicker than crap afterwards. Is what you plan to put in your mouth really worth how you will feel? For me, that takes away the 'can't', and reminds me that I am choosing to live this way. Is the beer really...
  7. Most people here will tell you that a positive blood test is conclusive. The biopsy will give you an idea of how much damage has been caused so far.
  8. It seems that it might, although I don't have any research to show you. The response to gluten in an immune response so if your immune cells were suppressed I would think that you could get a negative response.
  9. Good luck on the interviews. I would say that confidence will make more of an impression than what you eat.
  10. I have tomatoes and peppers with almost every meal. I eat eggplant several times a month. I have no problems with nightshades. It may be that people with Celiac/GI aren't more sensitive to some foods, just more aware of their bodies.
  11. If you do a search on the forum you'll see that this subject has come up before and many people have had spouses that return a negative result. Since most people who send off for a test are symptomatic, it's not unusual that most of them would get a positive result.
  12. Sadly, once you hit about 40, the opportunity to do stuff you aren't supposed to drops precipitously. It all becomes either too dangerous, too expensive, or too much trouble. although those cheese crisps look pretty tempting
  13. CC is our shorthand for cross contamination - what you might get from a gluteny kiss, or cooking in a pot that is used to cook gluten - that sort of thing. If you aren't symptomatic when you eat gluten I can imagine it would be really difficult to know if you are getting glutened. I know I can expect to get zapped most times I eat out, and any time I eat...

You could post a screenshot on facebook or flikr and link it as an image.
  15. It's only 11:00 at my house. C'mon over! Yes, class, but mostly I just sort of took a break from life for a while. Didn't do anything I was supposed to (work, homework, housework, notice a similarity in those words?) and I'm the kind of person that will only do what she wants to do when she's done what she's supposed to do, so that's my story. I think...
  16. My computer class has people signing. After watching the woman sign "kick ass" I decided to email the instructor and suggest he come up with fun phrases for the interpreters to interpret. There's an absolutely hysterical piece from NPR's wait wait don't tell me wherein the cast sees how funny the ASL version of "crap a pineapple" is and contrive to come...
  17. I'd go with that. When I eat a peach my throat swells shut. I know this and I don't need to eat a peach in front of an MD to be convinced that peaches are bad for me. Just because what you eat doesn't kill you immediately doesn't mean you can't be the one to decide you shouldn't eat it.

Or people could get in the habit of adding to their sig.
  19. He's also awesome. Try to hunt him down when you go to Hawai'i.
  20. Yep, this is the place to blather. Pretty much everyone goes through some degree of this. I've been doing it for three years or so and still sometimes have to yell "I F***ing HATE this!!" (like, this last weekend  ) But it does get better.
  21. I'm having curried salmon chowder with coconut milk. How 'bout eggs? I make mine with spinach and sun-dried tomatoes. Stir fry? Baked squash with different veggies on it?
  22. My mom used to fry leftover noodles. Maybe with some bacon or sausage? Might be a good use for the angel hair.
  23. Sorry for this Some people find they can tolerate soy lecithin, which would make your life easier if it were true for you as well. Might be worth testing it out.
  24. Halle Berry has the fleeting beauty of youth. Em has the boundless grace and charm of joy, and the unending beauty of a loving, gentle soul.
  25. Could it be some other food? I discovered that soy really affected my sleep.
