Also keep in mind that while it could be soy, it could also be something else that happens to look like a soy reaction. If a different mainstream brand works for you, go with it. If you cant find something in the store that works, then start trying the brands that keep their chickens on a carefully controlled diet.

ARCHIVED Corn Problems?
Jestgar replied to bbdailey's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I don't have mental issues (ok, some might say I do ) with corn, but my joint reaction is delayed by three days. -
ARCHIVED Raynaud's Issues Or Neuropathy Issues?
Jestgar replied to Jen Z's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
To address the 'cold' part of your question - I have a heated mattress pad that I turn on before I go to bed. I have a heated 'throw' at the bottom of my bed that I turn on when I get into bed (it heats up faster and turns off after 3 hours). I have 2 down, and one light comforter on my bed. I have micro-fleece sheets. I'm a happy... -
ARCHIVED I'm Tired Of Cooking!
Jestgar replied to bartfull's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I normally do three meals on the weekend, 2 veggie and chicken, one more tomatoey and with either beef, pork, or turkey. I go straight from one meal to the next without washing in between. After the last meal has been dished out the crock pot goes in the sink full of water. By the time I get around to washing it, it's pretty easy to clean. -
ARCHIVED I'm Tired Of Cooking!
Jestgar replied to bartfull's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have a three hour commute and I take classes. When I get home from the grocery store I dump my veggies in the sink and wash them. Sometimes they sit in there (under a damp towel) for three days before I have time to chop them. Sometimes I get some chopped but not all. The bowl of chopped goes into the frig until the rest are done. If I'm really lazy... -

I make everything on the weekends, divvy it up into containers, and put them in the freezer. Now I can still come home and chuck something in the microwave for dinner. -
Not only is it not so bad, eventually you will realize that it's awesome! No more being sick and not knowing why. You can be obnoxiously righteous about your healthy eating habits in front of people eating junk food. It's your chance to be "high maintenance" at restaurants. You get to learn to cook new foods. All kinds of good things. :) And...

Makes me mad when they ruin good food by "improving" it with additives. I also use Daisy. -

Sounds like Sylvia will be inside taste-testing the cookies while the "kids" are out taking care of the walkways. -
What else was in the salad? Did you make every part of it? Did you cook meat in a pan that might have had gluten in it? Did you cut veggies on a board that had been used for bread (ever)? There are so many sources of contamination that you have to think through every step before assuming it must be some spice or some product.

ARCHIVED Winter Projects And Goals?

I'm with K-ring there... I guess my goals are: Do well in my StatGen class. Read the statistics and calculus books that are on my Kindle. Do the homework problems in the Probability textbook 'cause I'll never get in to the class. Do the Open Original Shared Link section on linear algebra. Get back into serious weight lifting. Learn how to do a budget... -

This was a mix of mustard and ruby chard. I think the mustard flavor wasn't quite right with the eggplant, but collard seems like they would work. I've never seen turnip greens in the store here so no idea how they taste. nettles would work well also, or spinach if you want a very mild green flavor.

Cook 1 c brown rice and 1/2 c wild rice in 4 cups chicken broth (45 min or so) Bake eggplant until soft. Let cool and remove skin. Cut into (mushy) cubes. The Cherry Tree Carol - Traditional -
I can see it as a junk food treat, but this is a grown woman with kids, and 99% of what she brings for lunch is something packaged. The Noodle Cup is this week's offering. I imagine next week she'll be back to Healthy Choice, or whatever chemical laced "health" food is on sale.

I think the regular flavor has hydrolyzed wheat gluten in it. Do you have the regular? Or the low sodium? -
So I'm in the lunch room at work heating up my home made sauteed eggplant and mushrooms over brown and wild rice and I see on the counter someone's Styrofoam container of CupNoodles that she filled with hot water from the tap and is letting "cook" on the counter. Now, that stuff is disgusting. I'm not even sure how it is allowed in the food section of...

ARCHIVED Interesting Video On Gluten Intolerance But Is It Accurate?
Jestgar replied to alicewa's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
'Tis a fab mix of fact and fantasy. Technically it should be possible for you to rid your body of anti-gluten antibodies, and I recall reading one study about a young woman who did that. It took her ten years. If you consider how the immune system works, every time you encounter something that triggers an antibody response you make more of the... -
Cook them really really well? Start by mixing a few into food you already eat (mix some peas into mashed potatoes for example).

well, no earthquakes, but I also slept poorly. Had a storm blow through and took out the power for a couple hours so I used the opportunity to have a wee nap on the couch. Having a lovely low-key day reading Harry Potter and snuggling kitties. -

Went to my bro's house for Christmas eve. Their friends the Jo(h)ns were there already helping set up dinner. Jon looks at me and says "John was baking all day making gluten free lady fingers for your tiramisu" and John looks over from the sink and smiles.  Hope those of you who do Christmas Eve had a lovely celebration.
