JNBunnie, No don't worry, I didn't think you were trying to scare me. I would hope that cancer would show up in blood tests. But I've seen on medical shows that sometimes tumors can be incredibly hard to find, and sometimes they are even found on accident, with no blood abnormalities. It's that type of thing that scares me. But I would hope that something...

Hey Everyone, I just thought of something that might be relevant to my situation. When I got out of the hospital in June, my doctors allowed me to switch from Vicodin to Dilaudid for my pain. I started with 2mg tablets, made my Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals. They had no allergens in the inactive ingredients and were very well tolerated. Then I started taking...

ARCHIVED New Here And Looking For Info
GlutenWrangler replied to salamander's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
First off, it's important to distinguish between Celiac Disease and a Gluten Allergy. Celiac Disease is an autoimmune disease. Gluten causes an immune reaction in which the body attacks itself, thereby damaging the villi of the small intestine. Celiac Disease is diagnosed through antibody blood tests, small intestinal biopsy, and dietary response. A Gluten... -
I'm glad that leukemia is easy to find. My blood is tested every week because of the IV nutrition, so the doctors would definitely know if there were any abnormalities. But there are many other forms of cancer, and I'm sure I haven't been tested for most of them. They said they ruled out cancer in my GI tract, but how is that possible when they have no way...

ARCHIVED Help With Allergy Test
GlutenWrangler replied to b91hd7fjk's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Search online for the Sage Labs ELISA test. As long as you can get a paper signed by a doctor and a lab to draw your blood, you're all set. It tests for over 100 food allergies. Good luck, -Brian -
I should get my Lyme tests next week. Who knows if the lab that was used is reliable though. I'll have to find out when I get the results. But I'm not putting much stock in the results when they come back. I've had my prostate checked pretty recently, and it was normal. Unless something has changed from June until now. It makes sense that leukemia would...

I haven't received the Lyme results yet. I should get them next week, if they are ready. I'm not sure if the IV nutrition would cause such a dramatic loss in kidney function. My nephrologist told me that sometimes kidney function drops to about 70% on IV nutrition, but at half that level, there has to be something else going on. The main risk of IV nutrition...

ARCHIVED Frustrated!
GlutenWrangler replied to Phedre's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Phedre, You have the right to see your test results, so be persistent and keel calling. Also, ask if you could schedule an endoscopy. If they refuse, tell them you are going to find a new doctor. I would suggest seeing a different doctor for this anyway. It's better to see someone who really knows what they're doing. Good luck with everything, -Brian -
ARCHIVED Test Results Please Help
GlutenWrangler replied to Soonerman's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's kind of difficult to analyze the results that you have given. The one thing that is clear is that you have the DQ2 gene. I would suggest seeing a gastroenterologist in order to get a thorough and accurate evaluation for Celiac Disease. It's useless to deal with doctors who don't know what they're doing. Good luck, -Brian -
ARCHIVED Positive Serology Negative Biopsy?
GlutenWrangler replied to sandyrn0224's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sandy If you have positive serology, you have Celiac Disease. The antibody tests are very specific for Celiac Disease. A negative biopsy just means that the villi damage hasn't shown up yet. So trust your doctor when he tells you that you have Celiac Disease. And it is definitely possible to have Celiac Disease and Crohn's Disease. I'm willing to bet that... -
ARCHIVED I Want To Prove To Doc That One Must Eat Gluten Before Blood Tests
GlutenWrangler replied to Karagirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'd tell him to go back to medical school because he obviously didn't learn anything the first time around. -
Thanks everyone. I'm having a couple more tests done on Friday. I just don't understand how I could go from 100% to 35% when seemingly nothing has changed. I really didn't think it could get any worse than it already was. This is just ridiculous. Does anyone know if kidney function ever rises back up to normal after it has been down so low? I guess I should...

Hey Everyone, I wanted to post this separately from my other thread, just because it's a different subject. I went to see my Nephrologist on Monday. He has been treating me for Loin Pain Hematura Syndrome, which causes my kidney to bleed and causes chronic severe pain. He periodically tests my kidney function, and it has always been perfect. On Monday...

ARCHIVED Ema Test?
GlutenWrangler replied to kpyoung24's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Kimberly, The Endomysial Antibody test is very specific for Celiac Disease. Your son's blood test results are conclusive for Celiac Disease. A biopsy is not necessary if you don't want to put your son through it. Some gastroenterologists would just diagnose your son with Celiac Disease with just those test results, and not even bother with a biopsy. A... -
ARCHIVED Test Confusion
GlutenWrangler replied to writerscramp's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A colonoscopy won't help you to be diagnosed with celiac disease. However, an endoscopy with biopsies from mulitple locations would be very helpful, combined with your blood test results. -
ARCHIVED How Long Must I Wait To Be Tested?
GlutenWrangler replied to beatmaster23's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It could take up to six months to build up the antibodies. It's really not worth it. -
ARCHIVED Trying To Get A Diagnosis
GlutenWrangler replied to panthercreek's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It definitely doesn't hurt to get tested! Talk to your doctor and have him or her run a full celiac panel, and possibly a food allergy test. It's a good place to start. Good luck, -Brian -
ARCHIVED Onset Of Problems To Diagnosis?
GlutenWrangler replied to thepeach80's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm assuming that you have been eating gluten all of your life, so the antibodies should be there. If you have gone gluten-free for an extended period of time, the antibodies would have disappeared, or at least dropped significantly. I definitely think it's smart to have a celiac panel. Even if it comes out negative, you can still be tested through Enterolab... -
ARCHIVED Positive Ttg, Normal Biopsy- What Does This Mean?
GlutenWrangler replied to ladhowar's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You have a great doctor. I definitely wouldn't second guess her advice to go on a gluten-free diet. You don't need a positive biopsy at this point. I really wouldn't worry about it if I were you. Just stay gluten-free and let yourself feel better. When the doctor re-tests you, your Ttg levels should drop. Take care, -Brian -
ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge
GlutenWrangler replied to wozzy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't see any reason for you to be doing a gluten challenge. Your previous doctor must have had a good reason to put you on a gluten-free diet in the first place, and I'm assuming you felt better after following the diet. I don't think there's any question as to whether or not you have celiac disease or at least gluten sensitivity. Your reaction to the... -
ARCHIVED Anyone In Ma?
GlutenWrangler replied to gfmelissa's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I live in Westfield. It's cool to hear about others in my area. I figured everyone on here was out in the Boston area. There's definitely a good amount of stores in the area for celiacs. Trader Joes, Whole Foods, Cornucopia. Even Stop & Shop in Amherst has a lot of Celiac-Friendly foods. Welcome to MA! -Brian -
ARCHIVED Waking With Upper Abdominal Pain And Cold Sweat ?
GlutenWrangler replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Krista Usually pain occurs on the left side with heart problems. I would guess that it has something to do with your gallbladder. If you have gallstones you will feel severe pain on your right side under your ribcage. The cold sweat could indicate a fever caused by cholecystitis, which is an infected gallbladder. The infection would most likely be caused... -
Yeah originally they were going to have me eat toast. Either way I would have felt horrible.

It's true, guten and casein are not really meant to be consumed by humans. Our evolution didn't include wheat and cow's milk, so our bodies have a tough time with it. The Blood Type Diet is actually supposed to be pretty legit. At least that's what I heard. -Brian

I'm allergic to egg whites. When I was in the hospital they made me eat egg whites for a gastric emptying study. My blood pressure ended up dropping to 70/30. The funny thing was that I told them I was allergic to egg whites but they made me eat them anyway. -Brian
