  1. Keep in mind that there is a difference between Celiac Disease and a Gluten Allergy. Allergies are histamine reactions, while Celiac Disease is an Autoimmune Disease. An elimination diet will help to identify food allergies, but you need blood tests and a biopsy to identify Celiac Disease. I would recommend seeing an Allergist and a Gastroenterologist. They...
  2. I'm not exactly sure what you mean. Posts get moved when they are in the wrong location. For example if someone posted a recipe under the "Celiac Disease - Doctors" section, it would be moved to the "Gluten-Free Recipes" section. I'm don't know what you mean in terms of the quoting system though. I'm not sure if this helps, but there are two ways to post...
  3. Thank you!
  4. If you go to the Beth Israel Celiac Center, make sure you avoid getting an appointment with Dr. Sunil Sheth. He thinks he's a God, and he told me to "get it out of my head" when discussing my illness. Get someone who actually cares about their patients. Good luck, -Brian
  5. Thanks for the link. I'm going to see if I can get a consult.
  6. You should be taking Probiotics. I recommend Natren Healthy Trinity. Great stuff.
  7. You have positive numbers for IGA, TTG, and EMA. You have celiac disease. A biopsy will just confirm it. Positive TTG indicates damage, which could mean that your biopsy WILL show flattened villi. But regardless, with those numbers you definitely need to go on a gluten-free diet. Start it after the biopsy. If you need any support with the diet, don't hesitate...
  8. I have gastritis. But seriously who doesn't?
  9. If it gets too severe, don't hesitate to go to the ER. They'll probably give you morphine. I had an extremely bad migraine once. I couldn't even walk and my father had to wheel me in to the ER in a wheel chair. But they really helped me out, so I'm sure they can help you out too. I hope you feel better soon. -Brian
  10. Actually you CAN develop allergies and intolerances by thinking about it. The mind is much more powerful than you think. Ever heard of the placebo effect? People think a medication will work, so it does even though there is no active medicine in it. And it goes both ways. If you believe that a food will negatively affect your body, it will. And if you don...
  11. If you think you'll develop an allergy or intolerance, you probably will. But if you enjoy what you're eating and it's not causing you problems now, then keep enjoying it and don't worry about anything. -Brian
  12. Hopefully at some point I will be able to eat again. I'm still in the process of finding a doctor who can help me. And even though my situation is really bad, it really makes me feel good to be able to offer help and support for people with questions and concerns about their own health. BS - I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news about Whole Foods. But...
  13. I'm glad you were able to find a doctor who may be able to help you out. Candida and bacterial dysbiosis of the gut are real problems that most doctors overlook. But at least there are some good doctors out there. It's great that you eat all organic foods. It's just too bad that Whole Foods is taking over Wild Oats in your area. I definitely wasn't too happy...
  14. You sound like I did a year ago. I know exactly how you feel. I know what it feels like to want to give up. In fact I did give up. I stopped eating because it was too much to handle, and ended up in the hospital weighing 100 pounds in life-threatening condition. Now I receive my nutrition through an IV. I haven't had anything to eat in over 6 months. I am...
  15. Go with what feels right. Follow your gut, and don't worry if your results come back negative. False negatives are very common. Just don't let a doctor tell you that you don't have it. Good luck, -Brian
  16. I don't buy into the fact that enzymes would cause a Celiac to have a worse reaction, but help someone who is "gluten intolerant". It makes no sense. I am a Celiac and have used enzymes, and my reaction to cross contamination was no worse than when I didn't take enzymes. There really is no difference between Celiac Disease and Gluten Intolerance. A crumb...
  17. I agree, if you have positive bloodwork, you are already diagnosed with celiac disease. An endoscopy is trivial at this point in terms of diagnosis, but it may be helpful to assess your damage. If you have any specific questions, don't hesitate to ask. Otherwise I definitely recommend doing some reading on this site, it's a great resource. Good luck, ...
  18. If your daughter is truly a celiac or gluten-sensitive, you need to keep her on a strict gluten-free diet. Pills that claim to break down gluten are not designed for celiacs. Your daughter will continue to suffer damage if you allow her to eat gluten while giving her enzymes. There is no cure except the gluten-free diet. I'm surprised that your son's results...
  19. You should get Balanced Electrolyte Concentrate by Allergy Research Group. You just pour a capful into some water and you get all the electrolytes you need. There is also another brand called E-Lyte, and another brand called Peltier Electrolytes. They are all gluten-free. -Brian
  20. Missy, I have chronic abdominal pain as well. I am 99% sure that it is attributed to Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction in my case. Look it up to see if the symptoms apply to you. It could also be problems with your gallbladder, liver, pancreas, etc. Important questions that need to be asked: Where is the pain located? How long does it last when it comes? Is...
  21. I would take your doctor's word for it. A biopsy may or may not show damage at this point, and it probably wouldn't change your doctor's mind if it didn't show anything. The point is that celiac antibodies are present in your blood, and the blood tests are very specific to celiac disease. I know that it can be confusing, but if you can get the results from...
  22. A change in bowel habits is a good indication that gluten was definitely a problem for you. Like most of us, you have encountered idiots doctors, and luckily have found your own way. Just keep doing what you're doing, helping yourself instead of depending on a doctor. But hopefully you'll find a doctor with an open mind. I really think you should consult...
  23. I don't think you need to pay money to start a food diary. Just get a little journal and do what Momma Goose said. And if you need any help, just ask. Good luck, -Brian
  24. Joe, It could definitely be a lack of fluid or a magnesium deficiency. My fingers twitch when I'm low in magnesium. Please be careful if you plan to take magnesium supplements. You don't want to take too much. I was told to take magnesium supplements by my doctor, but at the time, I was also taking a lot of Mylanta, which has magnesium in it. The result...
