  1. Isn't that site great? I'm always willing and curious to try new recipes! -Julie
  2. Glad you enjoyed them Amanda! I'm so happy to see that someone made them! Sharon, I assumed it meant to drain the excess juice off the applesauce...otherwise, the bread or muffins may be soggy due to the extra moisture. To keep the "thicker" part of the applesauce, I simply poured it into a seive/colander and let the juice drip out. If you have...
  3. Hee hee! I'm too tired this morning to pick out a recipe, but the title of your message cracks me up! Thank you for the recipes. Have a good day! -Julie
  4. Carol Fenster's pizza crust is the best...it is not time consuming at all. I have made both the yeast and yeast free versions in her "Special Diet Solutions" cookbook. I'll tell you how easy it is...the other day the baby was screaming, playing, and "right up under me" with every step I took. Well, I made her recipe and didn't measure anything! I...
  5. Yummy! Thank you so much! I'm determined to do my best this year during the holiday(s) NOT to miss out on any of the "traditional" food I love. Take Care! -Julie
  6. Thanks for the info.! (I know a laxative is a stupid thing to be happy about). But, when I get glutened, Miralax is what I use...somehow it re-regulates my digestive system. I thought I had read it is gluten free. And in addition, I don't react to it...if it had gluten, it wouldn't work...because gluten gives me C and not D. Glad to get the tip. ...
  7. Glad to hear that the rolls turned out Jenny! How was your turkey? I totally understand your early turkey craving. About a month ago, I had a "holiday" food craving hit me. I made sweet potato casserole, turkey w/cranberry sauce, the whole bit. That is when I realized I still hadn't come up with a yeast roll recipe this year! Happy baking...
  8. Everyone's recipes sound delicious! Collette, Can I substitute sugar in your recipe...in place of the honey? If I can, does anyone know the substitute ratio? I have high expectations for myself this week. I'm going to try to make yeast rolls, zucchini bread, pumpkin bread, and cheesecake. Wish me luck with these stupid yeast rolls...
  9. Hey everyone! A couple of people asked for the zucchini bread recipe that I use; it is SO Good! This is from: "Special Diet Solutions" by Carol Fenster, Ph.D.; 2003; pg. 57 Zucchini Bread 1/4 C veg. oil 2/3 C brown sugar 2 large eggs 1 tsp vanilla extract 1/2 C drained applesauce 1 C garb/fava bean flour or...
  10. Lee, "Celiac porn"...you're killing me! HA! Jenny, $20+ for a little pot? For that much, I want a pot big enough to bathe in or a 14k gold pot that I can weld into jewlry. gluten-free mom, I'm gonna google "Chicago Metallic." Thanks for the info.! Blessings and baking, -Julie
  11. "Give up the glu, or I cannot kiss you!" HA! I love it Girl! A catchy little rhyme that will make a hubby think twice about gluten. Good stuff. -Julie
  12. Glad you're feeling a little better Someday...by all means, make that cheesecake! Happy Gal, To answer your question about the covers, I think I purchased them at Wal-mart or one of those type stores. I found my cover at the microwave gadgets section. Most of that stuff is useless, but I always like to see what they have in the kitchen section...
  13. Well, what can I say Happy Gal...we're lucky to have you too! We can never have too much support! I'm glad this group is here also...I have multiple disabilities, and this is the only site I participate on where there doesn't seem to be constant bickering. Of course, we have diligent moderators on the forum...so we have to behave. I'm...
  14. I have a great crock pot cookbook. It is not specifically gluten-free, but many, many of the recipes have no gluten in them. For most recipes, there are no substitutions needed or I can simply substitute a gluten free soup or other ingredient without affecting the taste! Crock pots are God's gift to the busy cook! -Julie (let me know if you...
  15. That's awesome...I hadn't even thought of TJ Maxx, Ross, or Marshall's (all those stores are similar and in my area). When we sell our house (and I have a little money), I'm going shopping!!!!!!!
  16. Thank you for the can-finding tips ladies! I never cooked much before my diagnosis. It's funny, when diagnosed with celiac, how quickly things change. Short story: Two years BC (before celiac), I was asked to bring a vegetable to thanksgiving dinner. I asked mom if green beans were o.k....she said yes...and I showed up with them. I literally came...
  17. Thank you so much! I'll try that and other baking baking companies. -Julie
  18. Hey gang, I know that many people on our forums do not have yeast in their diets. I did a "search" of past threads, and I couldn't find the answer to my question. So here goes... I am craving yeast rolls. Not yeast buns or yeast pizza crusts, but those soft, chewy, "yeasty" tasting rolls I grew up on. Thanksgiving will be here before...
  19. Hey sweetie O.k....call me a slacker, but I've never made anything with pum'kin before (well, besides the obvious jack-o-lantern for Halloween) Anyway, enough history...now for my question: Where do I find pumpkins? (besides some random field). I saw you wrote canned pumpkin? Is it near stuff like canned yams/sweet potatos? I REALLY...
  20. I hope your tummy feels better soon! Let us know the results of the CT scan. So sorry about all the doctors being jackassses. Just remember, out of the thousands of doctors practicing medicine, only one of them graduates at the top of their class each year....some barely make the cutoff. The trick is finding a doctor who's both intelligent and empathetic...
  21. Sieve...Yep! That's it Mesh...etc. (Ha! Thanks for picking up my slack...I've been having a lot of "brain poots" recently. I can't think for all the air up there!) Let's just blame it on gluten -Julie
  22. I'm so sorry you couldn't enjoy the cheesecake...like others have said, it takes a lot of willpower to avoid our "old favorites." I get very sick after eating gluten, but I still have the temptation to eat it. Here is a thought...it may not help, but I'm gonna toss it out there anyway. I purchased inexpensive pie/cake/food covers. The covers...
  23. Thanks Jenny! I will have to see if our closest mall has a Linens and Things. If not, maybe I can order on-line. Affordable is wonderful! I've been paying cheap prices, but also getting cheaply made products. I would love to find an affordable line of bakeware/pans that has a good, heavy quality and good variety of products. Thanks for your tip! ...
  24. A new Kroger has just opened about four miles from my house. It has a very large Natural Food section. I didn't see Kinnik. products, but I will look closer next time. I may ask the manager about it! I was all excited because they had my Ener-G pretzels ...those are just about the only "chip" type food I like. Chips, in general, are too greasy for...
  25. Hey everyone, Quick question... My mom gave me a wonderful heavy-duty (nice) baking pan. I would like to have a variety of nice pans for baking and cooking. I'm wanting pans to bake donuts, frenchbread, English muffins, hotdog/hamburger buns: basically, I need the pans I can't find at Wal-mart. I really would like not to get cheap pans. ...
