  1. Track it down one step at a time. Have you scrubbed the shower and water nozzle down with gluten safe rubbing alcohol to remove the possible accumulation of the NOT so water soluble wheat gluten residue from your parents' repeated showerings with gluten containing toiletries? If you do it personally, you might want to even wear a mask. It's a long...
  2. If it's common mold, a thorough cleaning of absolutely every crook and cranny with appropriate cleaners, plus the purchase of a high end portable air purifier like Austin for $400-$550, might prevent you from having to move again. It also would be a lot healthier for your parents as well! If it's chlorine, you can get very effective shower filters for about...

    ARCHIVED Dr. Scot Lewey

After reading several things he has written, he seems like a very knowledgeable doctor. I was just wondering if anyone had been to him for help with their celiac/gluten sensitivity.
  4. The saliva test by Diagnos-Tech in Washington State can test for the major protein intolerances of gliadin, casein, soy and albumin (egg whites). It is as controversial as the stool test, but among the growing number of doctors who do strongly believe it is valid, it is also considered to be 90+% accurate. Diagnos-Tech requires a medical professional to...
  5. Many new research doctors on the gluten scene have stated that there seems to be a definite connection between a sensitivity to gluten and schizophrenia. I'm reading about it everywhere. Dairy seems to be especially significant as well and yes, there have been recoveries reported after full removal of gluten and all the other offending allergens. Lots...
  6. Well, if you smell smoke, you first get out of the building. You don't stand around discussing how the fire might have started. That severe malabsorption is certainly occurring from something. But you've done the right thing by getting rid of the gluten and dairy. If you indeed decide that you are sensitive to gluten (celiac or not), don't get tripped...
  7. I agree totally. When you do slip, just get back up and keep going. However, never allow yourself to have the "it doesn't matter if I slip once in awhile because nobody's perfect" attitude with gluten. Don't PLAN to slip. It has been said that it can take from 3 weeks to even months for your gut to recuperate from one single glutening. So if you slip...
  8. Freeda and Kirkman.
  9. Mike M has said that strawberries are sometimes grown on straw. He contacted Driscoll, however, and they said they only grow theirs on plastic. As a super sensitive, he was getting a reaction before he switched to Driscoll strawberries, I believe. I have started peeling my non-organic apples, just to be safe. I really don't want all that paraffin residue...
  10. NOPE. 95% isn't any good. I have learned that you can't just go gluten free with no effort. It takes a reasonable amount of planning ahead. If you don't plan ahead, you get yourself in situations where you are starving and vulnerable to slipping. You just have to decide if you are serious about all of this or not. 99% isn't any good either...
  11. According to Dr. Rodney Ford's theories, who has written several books sold on this site and contributes articles on here as well, the primary place of damage with gluten sensitivity IS THE BRAIN. So I'm sure he would say a resounding YES to your questions. The brain and nervous system will heal, but does so much more slowly than most other body tissues...
  12. Airborne wheat/barley/rye/oats (gluten) should do you no harm just touching your unbroken skin. That's not the problem with it. But if you breathe in the grain dust, it combines with the mucous in the mouth, nose and back of your throat. When you swallow, you aren't even aware that you have just "eaten" gluten. It may be a very small amount, but depending...
  13. A very nice man at Freeda Vitamins told me what to look for in avoiding hidden soy in supplements. He said anything which has amino acids, chelation or lecithin. They do have vits without any of those.
  14. I'm sure you will be getting some specific answers soon. But there have been many people here who have reported negative results for various family members from testing with Enterolab. But we also have to realize that most people testing with Enterolab in the first place are people who already suspect they have gluten problems. So it stands to reason...
  15. Someone on another thread did warn against using convection ovens that have been used for gluten baking because of the fan and circulation of air. I had never thought of that and am wondering about getting a new convection oven myself in case it is a problem. Mine is old and was used to bake literally hundreds of miniature loaves of whole wheat bread in...
  16. I have been looking for 100% bean flour baked goods recipes for a long time. The only thing I've ever been able to achieve is brownies, pancakes or a simple flat bread made in a skillet like you would a crepe. They are made with soda or gluten free baking powder as the rising agent. I don't have any specific recipes at the moment. But maybe someone else...
  17. And the whole point for me has never been believing Dr. Fine. I have always believed his work to be valid. It just makes sense. My entire reason for wanting him to publish so badly, was so that doctors everywhere, even in little towns, will be brought up to speed on this thing and more people can benefit and actually have cooperation from their own family...
  18. Thanks so much. I am acquainted with Weleda. I went to their website and looked at their toothpaste selection. The salt one has guar gum and alcohol in it. The others also contain alcohol and xanthan gum. Since corn is another issue for me and alcohol can be a gluten issue unless we are assured of it's origins and guar is not SCD legal, they probably...
  19. You are probably right. I got an email announcement like yours yesterday. I think everyone whose data would be useful in stating the case for the validity of stool testing for diagnosis of gluten sensitivity, will be included. I think genetics as well. So maybe all of us can say we had a part in this. I think the fact that they are obviously sending...
  20. Not to worry. If you read through some of the last few pages of this thread you will see that Dr. Fine did indeed answer us.
  21. Wow. I don't want to appear overly optimistic here, but I would say this is a very, very good sign of wonderful things to come. Thanks for sharing, Ravenwoodglass! I don't have an official medical diagnosis as a comparative, so I probably don't qualify to be included in the study. But I'd sure love to be a part of this. You are very fortunate.
  22. What do you all do for toothpaste? I have always used natural ones and don't care to have the fluoride. I looked at labels today and every brand is obviously sweetened with something, all illegal on SCD it looks like. Is plain soda the only thing left? Thanks!
  23. Thank you, Fig girl, for the recipe. I plan to try it! I need any recipe I can get that does not contain any dairy, eggs or almond flour. It makes this diet really hard to do, unless I just choose not to eat any baked goods. But any yummy recipes that can successfully be made without these 3 ingredients would sure be appreciated.
  24. I won't try the yogurt now when I'm experimenting with this whole thing. But I sure might consider it later. In the meantime, can I get similar benefits from a homemade 24-hour coconut yogurt? If so, what do I use for starter? Can I just use a few SCD friendly acidophilus probiotic capsules I wonder? Do those of you on this diet use the Freeda vitamin...
  25. Pele, Is there an explanation as to why compounded thyroid doesn't seem to work? Just curious as to why.
