What is Celiac Disease?
Celiac disease (aka coeliac disease) is a genetic autoimmune disorder where ingesting gluten (a protein in wheat, barley, and rye) triggers an immune response that damages the small intestine's lining. This damage leads to inflammation and atrophy of the villi, tiny finger-like projections in the intestine responsible for nutrient absorption. As a result, individuals with celiac disease may experience symptoms like diarrhea, bloating, fatigue, and malnutrition. Over time, untreated celiac disease can lead to more severe health problems, including anemia, osteoporosis, weight loss, and increased risk of certain cancers. A strict gluten-free diet is the only effective treatment. Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease, not a wheat allergy. It's also different from non-celiac gluten sensitivity, gluten intolerance, or sensitivity to gluten.
My Long Journey to Celiac Disease Diagnosis
Like many people, I spent a lot of years, a lot of dollars, and endured many tests and misdiagnoses, before doctors finally discovered that I had celiac disease (also known as coeliac disease or celiac sprue), and needed to eliminate gluten and all gluten-containing ingredients from my diet. Gluten is a protein found in the three main gluten-containing grains: wheat, rye, and barley; and is often hidden in processed foods, and things like soy sauce and beer...[READ MORE about my long and winding road to a celiac disease diagnosis and recovery.]
Gluten-Free Diet
To treat my celiac disease I had to go on a gluten-free diet for life. That meant learning to read food labels to avoid gluten ingredients, and eating a diet of mostly naturally gluten-free foods like meats, fruits, nuts, vegetables, and packaged foods only if they are certified gluten-free or labeled gluten-free, for example gluten-free breads made using gluten-free grains.

New to this diagnosis
I agree with Trents. And if you already have other health issues, it is just one other thing to have to think about. But on the matter of other health issues, depending on what they are, you may find that coming off gluten might help, which could be an unexpected bonus. -

Progesterone pills - are they gluten free??
Yes that would be the generic manufacturer. My pharmacist and Aurobindo confirmed "no wheat", and from what I have been able to gather progesterone does not typically have gluten in the pills. I also don't have "gluten symptoms" but my celiac bloodwork is completely out of whack - not sure what is going on "with us", but lets keep the post going as we find...- high gluten

low positive
My daughter was tested for celiac because it runs in the family. She is positive for the celiac gene. she has an IGA deficiency so she also gets tested for IgG. The range is >9 positive. Her bloodwork shows she is a 10 for t-Transglutaminase (tTG) IgG . We have done several tests over the past 2 years due to many different reasons and this number has... -

What would a diagnosis tell me?
My doctor stated 4 slices of whole wheat bread for 4 weeks then take the blood work to diagnose. So I guess this is what I have to look forward to in the fall not to ruin summer plans with my family. I'm still confused on what the diagnose would tell me from the blood work. If it says Im gluten sensitive then I already know that from elimination diet and... -

Confused About Results
I have positive Ttg-IGA antibodies- and I have every time they have been checked. Also the antibodies do respond positively to a gluten free diet. However my biopsy showed no damage and my doc said it all looked okay in there. How does this happen and What does this mean??
