Celiac/gi And Hemophilia?

My two youngest kids (dtr and son) are gluten intolerant, we do not know if it's Celiac but plan to have genetic testing soon.  They are both being tested for Hemophilia and Von Wilebrand, this came about because my oldest dtr just tested positive as a symptomatic Hemophilia A carrier.  Anyway, when I mentioned the gluten issues to the hematologist today she did not seem surprised at all!  She talked about antibodies and some other stuff but I had talked to 3 nurses, a social worker, a genetic counselor and another doc already and my head was spinning!  Do any of you have any bleeding disorders?  I realize it's genetic but I have to wonder if one disease plays off of or can make a person susceptible to another?  Or is is just plain luck?!  I say that in jest because I have to-I'm exhausted and occasionally have to laugh at our issues :D

Nope, that one is, to my knowledge, purely genetic. There is an extinct family, i believe, in Europe (england?) that had it.

'Wolf - you might be thinking of the Romanovs, the last tzars of Russia... Those royals got a little inbred. LOL

I have ITP (a type of thrombocytopenia) which is an autoimmune clotting disorder where your body targets your platelets as an enemy. White blood cells basically latch onto the platelets and when they they go through lymph organs, mainly the spleen, what ever the WBCs have targeted gets killed. If you don't have platelets, you can't clot and then the anemia begins... I don't have a spleen anymore so it's under control even though my WBC's are still targeting my platelets.

ITP has a loose link to celiac, as well as thyroiditis, diabetes, and lupus. It is totally unrelated to hemophilia as far as I know.

Best wishes.

Thanks for your input!  I'm always hoping to link something that way it all makes sense.  I don't like to think that my genes caused problems for my kids :)

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?

Thankyou so much for your words. Its a hard battle when a supposed well known hospital whose celiac " specialist " has down played me because my colon looks fine and put it in my medical and so pcp doesn't take seriously. In their eyes we all carry that gene.Im having alot of bad days trying to be positive because of it.
