Greetings everyone. I'm meeting my friends for dinner at Chi Chi's Mexican Restuarant. I already called ahead and the manager is being so very nice and is meeting with me when I get there. However, I would like to make it as easy as possible for both him and myself. I have to admit, I've just been diagnosed day before yesterday, so I'm new and for my first time dinning out, I'm kinda embarrassed(meeting with a good size group of friends), so I want to make this as easy and comfortable as possible, yet I will do what I have to do for me and my health. Anyway, question is, has any one else ate there, and if so, do you have a suggestion for me, like a meal you have ordered? Thank you for your help.

Christine

Christine,

I would have to know what your reaction level to gluten is before I would even say eat in a restaurant. I have such a high reaction level to gluten that eating out is not possible. It seems that an environment that has gluten in it will have gluten in everything, no matter how hard they try and keep it out. Gluten is ground so fine and sticks so well to everything, that you will be exposed to it in an environment that processes and cooks it. There is no way around it.

If you eat in a restaurant, know that you are eating gluten. It just is in very small amounts.

Oh my, I'm sorry to hear about your low intollerance. I will definately take that into advisement because I want to feel good and my health is very important to me. I did go there and eat and I was o.k., but I really don't want to rely on that one experience because I'm new to all this and I still consider myself to be sick, so I wasn't feeling great, but I couldn't pin point what to attribute it to and I'm still learning what is o.k. and what is not, etc.. So I will definately be very aware. I think it is probably best for me not to eat out so much any way.

Thank you for your advice.

Have a great evening.

Christine

Glad to hear that all went well :). It definetly depends on your level of reaction. I have a very high tolerance, so I can eat out with few problems. I just have to talk to the waiters/-resses and tell them my needs. I've not had a single problem so far eating out at various places. It's sometimes, too, a matter of experimenting and having a few bad experiences, but don't give up :).

So I've been dealing with chasing the name celiac because of my body actively dealing with health issues related to celiac though not eating. Diagnosed in 1994 before foods eliminated from diet. After 25 years with former pcp I googled celiac specialist and she wasn't because of what ive been through. I wanted my results to be sent to my pcp but nothing was sent.I have email copies.I did one zoom call with np with team member from celiac specialist in Nov 2025 and she asked me why I wanted to know why I wanted the celiac diagnosis so bad, I sad I don't, its my life and I need revalidaion because its affecting me.KB stated well it shows you are.I asked then why am I going through all this.I was labeled unruly. Its been a celiac circus and medical has caused anxiety and depression no fault to my own other than being born with bad genetics. How is it legal for medical professionals to gaslight patients that are with an ailment coming for help to be downplayed? KB put in my records that she personally spent 120min with me and I think the zoom call was discussing celiac 80 min ONE ZOOM call.SHE is responsible for not explaining to my pcp about celiac disease am I right?

I've noticed with my age and menopause my smell for bread gives me severe migraines and I know this. Its alarming that there are all these fabulous bakeries, sandwich places pizza places popping up in confined areas.Just the other day I suffered a migraine after I got done with my mri when a guy with a brown paper bag walk in front of me and I smelled that fresh dough bread with tuna, I got a migraine when we got home.I hate im that sensitive. Its alarming these places are popping up in airports as well.I just saw on the news that the airport ( can't remember which  one)was going to have a fabulous smelling bakery. Not for sensitive celiacs, this can alter their health during their travel which isn't safe. More awareness really NEEDS to be promoted, so much more than just a food consumption!FYI I did write to Stanislaus to let them know my thoughts on the medical field not knowing much about celiac and how it affects one.I also did message my gi the 3 specialist names that was given on previous post on questions on celiac. I pray its not on deaf door.
