Cake Anyone?

Today I was out with my son doing a 10k walk raising funds for Cavendish Cancer Care at Chatsworth House, Bakewell in the Uk.

Well after the event we went for food and I ended up with a jacket potato as per usual and then my son pointed out that there was gluten free cake :) I was naturally overjoyed; one that it made me feel special that we were catered for and two, because Ive not had any in months...anyway, there was 4 choices (chocolate, victoria, carrot and coffee cake). mmmm I ordered the carrot cake and really looked forward to it, but with every mouthful I was nervous of cross contamination so ended up not enjoying it at all and leaving most of it :(

ahhhh well, one day.......

Yes, it's hard to trust publicly available gluten-free food, especially if you don't know the brand or can't question the chef.

Sometimes I feel like by eating at a new place I'm performing an act equivalent to skydiving.

lol yes thats exactly how I felt! ! Think my new mission this month is to find just one place I can really trust (huge task I know) :)

Not sure where you are exactly in the UK, but I see the website "Find Me Gluten Free" covers London (and perhaps more?)

Take a look!.

 

I have had excellent luck with places recommended by people who post reviews on that site (and now, I review on there myself)

 

I was terrified to eat out at first, but when I had to travel extensively last month,  I took the plunge and now, I am  very comfortable with places recommended by others on that site. Not a single hit.

Thanks Colleen, It has to be done... my son's dad had lung cancer 3 yrs ago :(

We'll crack it one day and get rid of it for good. Infact, I'm hearing lots of positive stories alately, so we're getting there :)

      Yes, some people do get withdrawal from gluten but gluten withdrawal doesn't usually cause gut pain. Maybe more like general body aches and discomfort. We have articles on gluten withdrawal on this forum. You might do a search for them. Applesauce is very acidic and some brands have added vitamin C (ascorbic acid) which makes them more acidic. This can...

      Do you or anyone know alot about ibuprofen I wasn't sure if I was eating too much apple sauce. Something is making my pain so much worse I'm referring to the intense pins and needles in my feet and lower legs. Jaw actually has tardive dystonia and muscle spasms throughout my back Almost like an opposite effect that a pain reliever...

      We were flabergasted that the owner would not acknowledge a $50 e-gift card I purchased for my celiac wife. Six months later, and numerous absurd back and forths, and the owner literally informs me there have been "bad actors", so she can't make good on this lost gift card. In other words, she accused me of lying and committing fraud... over $50! Please be careful with your orders and purchases here.

We have articles on gluten withdrawal on this forum. You might do a search for them. Applesauce is very acidic and some brands have added vitamin C (ascorbic acid) which makes them more acidic. This can damage the stomach lining if you eat it too often. Especially if your stomach lining is already compromised. Ibuprofen inhibits the body's ability to rebuild the stomach's protective mucosal lining. That's why it can cause peptic ulcers. As strange as it may sound, low level irritation/inflammation stimulates the body to rebuild the stomach lining. There are two steps in this rebuilding process known as COX 1 and COX 2. Ibuprofen represses both COX 1 and COX 2. Celecoxcib, a prescription anti inflammatory, inhibits only COX 2, making it less likely to cause damage to the gut lining.

I'm fairly new to this. Whatever is going on seems to be worsening  Do people get a withdrawal effect from gluten?  It's extremely painful 😖  I'll post that question or research on the site  Thank you everyone for responding
