Just got a refill of simvastatin. The label lists Zygenerics, and the manufacturer is CadilaHealthcare Ltd, in Ahmedabad India. Can't find anything on line about this and forgot to ask for the information leaflet from the pharmacy. Has anyone know if this is safe?

According to the gluten free drug lists out there, name brand Zocor is gluten free but that doesn't help you, does it?  I would go back to the pharmacy and ask for an insert so you can read the ingredients list.  I guess you could call the company but they are in India so how is that supposed to work?  I find this all so annoying.

All you need to see is the listing of inert ingredients....the dreaded fillers.

 

Is it possible to get brand name Zocor?  You can always have it out with the insurance company if they don't cover it.  Maybe they will make an exception due to food intolerances?  I have no idea how much the brand name costs.

 

It sometimes is so much easier not to take anything..... :(

I found a website called "DailyMed" . If you know the manufacturer you can find the medication and all the info that comes in the package insert. It even has the pills' description, and sometimes a picture, so you know you're looking at the right one. I found the simvastatin on there and it is ok as far as I can tell. If anyone knows if this site is reliable please let me know. But it seems pretty legit to me. Thanks for your reply:)

Thank you for YOUR information.  I am going to check it out because it's all about the manufacturer when trying to figure this out.  Celiac's basically have to get to know which manufacturers provide gluten-free meds and I usually end up asking for stuff by manufacturer.  People think I'm anal about it but whatever it takes....... ;)

      Hi @Atl222 As @trents points out, there could be many reasons for this biopsy result.  I am interested to know, is your gastroenterologist concerned?  Also, are your blood tests showing steady improvement over the years? I remember when I had my last biopsy, several years after diagnosis, mine came back with with raised lymphocytes but no villous damage, too! In my own case, my consultant wasn't remotely concerned - in fact, he said I might still get this result even if all I ever did was eat nothing but rice and water.   My coeliac blood tests were still steadily improving, albeit slowly, which was reassuring.

      Welcome to the celiac.com community, @Atl222! Yes, your increased lymphocytes could be in response to oats or it could possibly be cross contamination from gluten that is getting into your diet from some unexpected source but not enough to damage the villi. And I'm certain that increased lymphocytes can be caused by other things besides celiac disease or gluten/oats exposure. See attachment. But you might try eliminating oats to start with and possibly dairy for a few months and then seek another endoscopy/biopsy to see if there was a reduction in lymphocyte counts.

As always, trusting your body after trying it is reasonable, but based on the information you gathered, your conclusion makes sense.
